Title: February IMPACT Discussion

Big F'N Swigg - January 31, 2006 12:37 AM (GMT)
Starts this Saturday....

SamoaRowe - February 1, 2006 03:13 PM (GMT)
Can't wait to watch two squash matches, one semi-squash, and then a thrown together main event with a DQ ending.

I was watching some of the weekly pay-per-views I still have on tape, and I miss them to a degree.

Scrooge McSuck - February 1, 2006 10:07 PM (GMT)
The PPV's were unpredictable. Who didn't mark out when some old guy came in to wrestle, like Dusty Rhodes, Jim Duggan, Moondog Spot, Lex Luger... you name it.

Um...............me?

Scrooge McSuck - February 4, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
Xplosion has that japanese guy/strong match on tonight.

Big F'N Swigg - February 7, 2006 11:16 PM (GMT)
I must say, I'm loving the storylines lately. Even the stupid Jarrett-Jackie-everyone else thing. They're playing them well. Especially compared to what I saw on RAW Monday night.

The Jarrett thing has played out long enough that I've actually gained interest, the GenBassy thing has got me interested because I want to see GenBassy, The X Title three way has been done well, and I'm even interested in 3d vs. Canada.

Hell, if you took Apolo out of the picture, I'd even like LAX

Scrooge McSuck - February 8, 2006 05:57 AM (GMT)
The storylines are hit and miss to me. I'm enjoying the James'/LAX angle, but find the Jarrett/Jackie shit stupid and pointless. What a waste of money... instead of bringing in her husband, who, you know, CAN WRESTLE, they hire her untalented fake tit having ass.

Big F'N Swigg - February 9, 2006 12:03 AM (GMT)
My thing is, they've done so much with Jackie/Jarrett, I'm starting to buy the hype. I'm hoping it lives up to it

jamiegeist - February 26, 2006 05:52 AM (GMT)
Impact is WAR was pretty awesome on the storyline front. I've been a little lazy with TNA lately (more from being busy than not wanting to watch it) but this episode caught me up perfectly, and they're doing an AWESOME job with all their shit right now.

Destination X looked lame to me on paper, and now looks good after watching that show.

The Sting footage angle is just awesome. Eric Young is all freaked out, playing his role perfectly, and becoming a star. Alex Shelley's cameraman/paparazzi routine is awesome and actually shows continuity. His narration during the footage was fuckin classic: "Oh yeah, nice place here. I'm gonna get something like this when I move out of my apartment".

Christian's nut shot on Monty was great, and my 3rd grade sense of humor didn't even see it comin.

And there was a great X-division video package talking about Ultimate X, and Joe's limitations, and it ended with Larry Z personally promising that the cables would hold Joe. Just a nice touch, and a great build around it all.

Bad thing: Bullet Bob Armstrong single handedly clearing the ring of Machete and Homicide is a little silly.

dynamite kido - February 26, 2006 06:00 AM (GMT)
I agree that they are doing a great job at building all the storylines for the PPV.

I thought that the Monty squash was kind of pointless though. They don't need to have Monty squash anyone anymore, just give him some face time and move on with it. Although I found the Xian thing funny.............he really shouldn't be going with heel tactics against Monty though.

I like that there may be a possibility of a Shelley/Sting program in the making too. It would be fresh and it would actually use a veteran like Sting in a correct manner..............to raise up younger talent.

The Ultimate X build was also very well done and the more I think about it.......................Joe should probably lose the title in that match. Not that I think that Joe should lose the title..............but it'd be a way to get the belt off of him and he doesn't have to get pinned. The top of the card seems to be getting a bit clogged right now in TNA but it's still probably a good idea to get the X-division title off of Joe before they hurt the credibilty of the title by taking it off of him in some weird way.

Yeah, I definitely think Sting's first match back should be v Shelley after he finds out that he has been being watched all this time. Shelley would have to lose, but the program alone would be HUGE for him. Sting could then kind of climb up to Jarrett, maybe through Team Canada and all that. Young should really turn face somewhere in there, and could become a great kind of plucky, comedic, yet serious worker.

I'm an advocate of actually keeping the title on Joe until he wins the NWA World Title. They at least have to go for a year now that they're this close. It makes a title so presitigous to me when it is held for such a long time, and defended at least once a month. I'd like to see it go something like: He declares that he simply can't be beat, and puts the title up for grabs at all times. He gets a few runs from some youngsters on Impact once in a while, but generally still kills people on Impact.

After a period of time (careful here, cause not too long, or you lose it) someone eventually questions the prestige of the X Title v the World Title. It could be Joe himself, or Tenay, or another X division wrestler. I just really see this being their BIG storyline. Joe's X Title against who knows who's World Title. Joe would have to be face for that probably, because I think the X Title, being a fresher newer championship has more fan support than the old ugly ass lame looking NWA Title. Besides, the X Title bares the name of TNA, while the World Title still carries NWA's name

I just really see it being huge, and want it......badly.

"They're playing basketball, and let me tell you, their dad must have taught them. They're horrible......

Well, except for that shot."

BRILLIANT!

And yeah, Bullet Bob should NOT scare Konnan

Scrooge McSuck - February 28, 2006 07:20 PM (GMT)
I need to catch the Impact replay on Sun-Sports next week to see the Sting/Shelley bit. Sounds like the funniest thing on wrestling for a while.

jamiegeist - February 28, 2006 08:06 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Shelley was brilliant. I wish he would've turned the camera on himself a little more often to make himself more part of it.

dynamite kido - March 5, 2006 07:04 AM (GMT)
Well, once again Impact was good in the storyline dept, but not much in the way of wrestling. I was rather dissappointed by the main event, but I did like that they made it like Joe wouldn't be able to get up there to grab the belt. Honestly though, Shannon Moore had zero reason to be in that match. I would have rather them just throw Lethal in there because he's legit friends with Joe instead of Moore getting in there and boring me half to death like he always does.

jamiegeist - March 6, 2006 01:40 AM (GMT)
Damn, Impact is on a roll. It is total money lately.

Their angle development has just been f'n sweet, especially with the Sting situation. They have me very hooked right now, and I'm seriously considering ordering the PPV, something I've never done with TNA.

-The Sting footage was awesome. Everything surrounding it, from Eric Young stealing the tape, to Shelley's attitude and the fact that Jarrett wouldn't let him talk, to the actual footage, and Shelley's narration again "You should give him a kiss with your guitar, Jeff!". Just awesome. I don't like the whole "Steve Borden" thing cause its just been so played out over the years, but otherwise, great. Good cliffhanger too with Jarrett saying he is gonna call someone. A few names instantly jump in my head (Luger, Hogan, Warrior) that could factor in in a storyline manner.

-Ultimate X. They went from me being tired of those 3 wrestling each other, to me really wanting to see this match. Last week's video package, coupled with Joe's reactions to the structure this week, and then AJ hanging the belt at the end and telling Joe to "come and get it" were just brilliant. The match wasn't anything special, but it did have Shannon Moo-- er, Prince of Punk in it. They really need to stop that "Joe and Punk v Styles and Daniels" shit, cause that ain't cool.

-Christian/Monty is picking up some steam, with a nice beatdown, and Monty nailing his ribs good a few times makes me hopeful for the match. I have much better hopes for the match now that Monty has a body part already set for focus. Although the ribs means we'll be seeing a Bearhug, which no one can make look manly, especially the alpha-sexual Monty Brown.

-Lance Hoyt should NOT have a PPV match. Give me a break. If they want Bentley on the card that bad, have him attack someone who doesn't suck ass, like Lethal, Sabin, or Dutt. Any of those three would have done just fine. Not to mention Hoyt got booed, and people will cheer Bentley because he has Tits McGee with him. And Tenay desperately trying to plug "Maverick Matt" was really fuckin annoying.

I enjoyed this show tremendously, especially the viewing party, and everyone's FACIALS. It was awesome.

I say order, I've seen all of their PPV's and I may have been dissappointed twice.

By the way, the person Double J is calling...................Scott Steiner. Also, the one person that the whole Sting vs. Jarrett's Army thing is really starting to make a star of......................ERIC YOUNG. He's been nothing short of awesome since the whole thing started.

I really liked how for the first time Joe is looking like the underdog in a situation. Finally a good use for Ultimate X. Why should they stop the Joe/Punk vs. Styles/Daniels? Because people might think it's CM Punk? Nobody would think that anyway as I highly doubt anyone who knows CM punk surely knows he's not in TNA.

These two have already fought on PPV, and it was rather good. I don't think this one will fall short either as they now have a good angle going with the match that already had potential. Let's see how much Monty has improved since they've last met.

I'm not Hoyt's biggest fan, but he's certainly not as bad as you're making him out to be. Apparently you didn't see him fight Abyss on PPV............it was pretty fucking good and yes, I was shocked that it was. It should also be mentioned that "Maverick" Matt might be the worst nickname for a wrestler EVER.

jamiegeist - March 6, 2006 02:22 AM (GMT)
No, I don't hate Hoyt. I just see alot of other guys who have been consistently on TV that could be in the spot. I'm more upset with TNA, not with the push of Hoyt. He hasn't even appeared in a few months and then is just instantly back in an angle going into the PPV. I was a bit put off by that.

And I don't really "know" CM Punk, having only watched a little of his newest stuff on youtube thanks to my new OVW fetish. But what I do know (perhaps incorrectly) is that Samoa Joe and CM Punk have a big history. And they had a rather fabled series of match which are called Joe/Punk I, II, whatever. Like I said, haven't seen em, but to me they flow together. So when you put Joe/Punk on the screen, it is very misleading and confusing.

dynamite kido - March 6, 2006 04:49 AM (GMT)
I see what you are saying and yes, Joe/Punk do have history. ONLY in ROH though. Since you know that Punk is in OVW already, I don't see where the confusion comes in. Then again, what does it really matter.

jamiegeist - March 6, 2006 07:44 AM (GMT)
Yeah......see its not my confusion......its my perception that I could see other people being confused by it.

And yeah, this has quickly deteriorated into a "why does it matter". So we'll leave it at that.

Big F'N Swigg - March 7, 2006 12:29 AM (GMT)
The Joe/Punk thing annoys me because his name is SHANNON MOORE. Prince of Punk is not a name, it's a title. It should be Joe & Moore or Samoa & Punk, etc. It's just stupidity on their part.

And geist, I'm with you on Tenay trying to get names over. It's like he can't be subtle about things. My wife hates it when I watch TNA just because she feels like their commentary is overkill.

jamiegeist - March 7, 2006 01:03 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I think it is more annoyance on my part. I hate that shit. And they did it again on his entrance.

"Prince of Punk". Or "Truth". Thats the dumbest thing in the world. It has to be intentional, because ANYONE would catch that if it were just some confusion on the graphics guys' part.

eStragand - March 8, 2006 04:39 PM (GMT)
C'mon now..no mention of The Truth's world premier music video? With creative lyrics like "you can go with this, or you can go with that...wasssup" I don't see how it can NOT be on your list of discussion points.

I like "the Truth" nickname... more of a tough guy boxer's name, like Karl "The Truth" Williams.

Scott D'amore and Jeff Jarrett wanting to dig into Eric Young's trunks was disturbing.

The commentary is overkill.... YOU'VE GOTTA' BE KIDDING ME!!!! (tm Don West)

I'll be marking out for Impact Sting vs. EY match. That seems like a necessity over the next two months.

The guys over at Back of the Head have a pretty amusing article on TNA:
http://www.backofthehead.com/john/index.html

Oh yeah, Jamie..almost forgot: facial EXPRESSIONS!!!! :)

Scrooge McSuck - March 8, 2006 06:42 PM (GMT)
Exactly how long has it been since Ron Killings actually cut a promo that gave him his "The Truth" nickname? February 2003 when he teased a heel turn for about 5 minutes?

SamoaRowe - March 8, 2006 06:47 PM (GMT)
I would mark out if Killings started cutting promos like he did back in 2002. He would be a quick main event threat to Christian.

whitemilesdavis - March 8, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Ron HAS to go back to being militant.
