Title: Vince not happy with Joey Styles
Description: AKA - Another reason to hate Vince......

Numerous sources have told us that Vince McMahon is not happy with the job that Joey Styles has been doing of late on Raw. Sources have told me that McMahon gave Styles a long talking to at last week's Raw on 01/02, telling him what he thinks Styles is doing wrong (from a WWE perspective) and what he expects from the lead announcer of Raw. From what I have been told, Styles will have to realize that he is no longer "calling ECW matches for the internet fans" if he wants to stay on Raw long-term. It should also be noted that when Styles first interviewed with WWE, after ECW went out of business in 2001, WWE had the same concerns about him. It's not a knock against Styles either, but rather a further indication of how WWE sees their way of doing business as the right and only way. They see it as they make movies and tell stories. They don't "call wrestling".

Is this motherfucker serious?
SamoaRowe - January 12, 2006 04:50 AM (GMT)
They don't "call wrestling." That is the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time.
At this point, it doesn't look like Vince is going to be happy with any new lead announcer not named Jim Ross.
jamiegeist - January 12, 2006 05:30 AM (GMT)
If Styles screamed somemore about nothing, or maybe fucked up people's names all the time....then he would rule.
And he doesn't say "Damn him! Damn him to hell" near enough.
eStragand - January 12, 2006 06:27 AM (GMT)
They corrupted Michael Cole and got him to emulate the "Good ol' JR" method. Listen to the ways he painfully works in "HELL", "GOD" and "DAMN". It's Southern Baptist hour! Repent!
Funny thing is, I always thought JR's shitty exclamations were an attempt to emulate Styles and his "OH MY GAWD!"
Scrooge McSuck - January 12, 2006 10:10 AM (GMT)
Vince to Joey: You don't work WWE style!
I told you! Everyone Vince hires gets to do their thing for a month, then he tries to nueter everything about them that makes them good.
Real F'n Show - January 12, 2006 11:04 PM (GMT)
Seriously, if Benoit and Rey would leave, I'd stop watching this company altogether. No joke...
Colcollazo - January 13, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
Amen, I can't believe it's gotten to this point...

I had always thought that Styles would do well in TNA. Him and Tenay together would totally rock. Plus he could take shots at the E. It'd be better than West, at least.

That wouldn't make much sense though. Tenay and Styles are both play by play guys..........you need a color guy and neither is good in that role.
whitemilesdavis - January 13, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
Like I've said before, I was not a fan of Joey's with ECW, but I think he's been great since joining WWE.
Vince is giving me less and less of a reason to watch. Fake sex acts may be what most people want on their wrestling show, but not me. The minute anybody steps up to give WWE competition, I'll never watch again.
whitemilesdavis - January 13, 2006 06:18 PM (GMT)
Tenay was actually good as a 3rd guy with Heenan and Schiavone, so I think he could pull off color.
dynamite kido - January 13, 2006 06:24 PM (GMT)
Tenay could pull off color, but he's WAY better IMO than Styles. I just wouldn't want to compromise Teney in that way myself.......
whitemilesdavis - January 13, 2006 06:34 PM (GMT)
I would normally agree on him being better than Styles, but this new stint in WWE has really impressed me.

Oh, I'm not slighting Styles. To me..........Teney has ALWAYS been great for pbp. Watch AAA When World's Collide PPV..........one of the best PPV play by play jobs I've EVER heard.
jamiegeist - January 13, 2006 08:46 PM (GMT)
The only thing about Tenay I don't like is his strange over-excited voice. What comes to mind is "IS IT STING?!?!" (sounds like he is hyperventilating).
It just always sounds so fake from him for some reason. And West makes the dumbest fuckin faces in the world whenever they cut to the table to talk about stuff. He's just a weird dude.
Scrooge McSuck - January 13, 2006 08:57 PM (GMT)
I actually don't mind Tenay and West. Call me crazy, but West, despite probably having zero wrestling knowledge before being hired, sounds a lot more competant than hacks WWE hires.
whitemilesdavis - January 13, 2006 09:02 PM (GMT)
I don't mind them either. I will say TNA seems to have pushed Tenay towards the entertainment side. I like him better when he is able to play hte sportscaster
Big F'N Swigg - January 15, 2006 05:59 AM (GMT)
Tenay is NOT Play by Play. If anything he's an analyst.
And honestly, I think the only reason WCW hired him was to call out the names of moves for Tony Schiavone, and to keep Heenan from killing Schiavone.
Scrooge McSuck - January 15, 2006 02:57 PM (GMT)
Is Bobby Heenan going to kill Tony Schiavone?! Tune in to Nitro tomorrow night!!
Big F'N Swigg - January 15, 2006 07:11 PM (GMT)
I liked Tneay on WCW Worldwide. Mostly because he would describe things about the match in between match segments. When he's doing commentary live, I can't stand him. ESPECIALLY since he joined TNA.
"GOLDILOCKS, YOU WHORE!"

That was some of the best unintentional comedy.
Big F'N Swigg - January 16, 2006 11:03 PM (GMT)
It was. But that's the problem. Tenay, in TNA, has taken too getting emotionally involved in the characters, to the point of taking sides. This is not what a journalist should do. Though you couldn't tell from watching ESPN.
The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2006 01:01 AM (GMT)
Ahem. "HOLY SHIT IT'S VINCE RUSSO!" - Be all and end all of TNA Commentary.
prof_plague - January 17, 2006 06:03 AM (GMT)
I can't completely knock Vince for saying Styles is not telling the story; and I think Styles is one of the better commentators with WWE for some time now. Although calling "pro wrestling" is essentially being the narrator while the wrestlers are telling the story in the ring.

PWInsider reports that right after Joey Styles walked through the curtain at the end of the Royal Rumble PPV, Vince McMahon grabbed him and took him aside and gave him another verbal beating. It was previously reported that Vince doesn’t like how Joey Styles puts more emphasis on wrestling moves than over the storylines.
This isn’t the first time that Vince has complained to Styles, and before him, Coach was the one getting the heat from Vince.
There is a feeling backstage that WWE hadn’t realized what they had with Jim Ross until he was gone. Whether Ross would ever consider coming back or not is unknown Ross is pretty much financially set right now, and is likely not very happy with what WWE did to him when he left. There is however still a contract sent to him by WWE which we don’t have anything new on right now.

Good. I'm glad that they aren't happy. Fuck them. I'm also glad that there would be a possibility that Ross would tell them no, if they asked him to comeback....................Vince should seriously quit operating..................you know, since he hates wrestling so much?
Scrooge McSuck - February 10, 2006 02:55 PM (GMT)
Is it a rule that ever 5-6 years that Vince wants to get rid of J.R., isn't happy with his replacement, then goes crawling back to him?
Joey Styles now is better than J.R., but J.R. is still years ahead of every other piece of shit WWE employs. Except Mathews, but he'll never get a fair shot.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - February 10, 2006 04:48 PM (GMT)
I still don't completely understand why J.R. got the boot....especially because King is a thousand times worse than he is.
Scrooge McSuck - February 10, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
J.R. isn't pretty. I didn't know MTV ran the WWE too.

Neither is Stephanie McMahon.

She used to be kinda hot. Now she's.... yikes, what the hell happend? Does Triple H have some kind of evil sperm that turns his women into men/monsters?

I think the wheels just fall off at a certain age for pretty much every wrestler....even Steph, if you want to call her a wrestler at all. Plague and I were marveling at how much Ric Flair and Triple H have aged in the last two years.
prof_plague - February 10, 2006 05:59 PM (GMT)
Admittedly, Stephanie McMahon has had a couple of good matches.

That better be sarcasm...............or a shitty joke.

The title change vs. Lita in 2000 and the match at NWO 2001 with Trish were pretty good by WWF's women standards. That's more than I can say for pretty much every woman WWE has employed since then other than Victoria and Trish. Molly was alright, but she was always saddled with shit/green wrestlers.

OH, I get it...........it reached a fucking star.
gotcha.

Those were good matches. There aren't mant decent US women wrestler (on TV). And when there are good women wrestlers, they're not allowed to show how good they are.

I just noticed on RAW that during the breaks where the camera is on the announce team and they are supposed to put over the angles that Joey is lost. I hate to say it, because he is great during the matches. I have a solution: Sit Joey in a different place than King and Coach. For those spots, just show King and Coach. They can all still talk during the matches.

How would you work that in? Just add a side storyline?
