Full WWE Velocity and Smackdown Taping Results (SPOILERS) Posted by Larry Csonka on 01.10.2006
A HUGE night at the Smackdown tapings!
Dark Match:
Nunzio and Vito defeated Danny Doring and Scott Wright.
Velcocity:
Ken Kennedy came out with his new T-Shirt to push the sales. He forced Tony Chimell to wear the shirt.
Jamie Noble beat Scotty 2 Hotty with a Dragon Sleeper.
The Gymini defeated Billy Baxx and Lee Great.
Paul Burchill pinned Nick Berk.
Mexicools beat the Dicks after Road Warrior Animal came out and shoved one of the Dicks off the top, setting up Crazy hitting a top rope swinging DDT for the pin. Animal then laid out the Mexicools afterwards.
Smackdown:
WWE World champion Batista came to the ring with Teddy Long and announced he was injured last Sunday against Mark Henry. He said that he will not be able to work through the injury and he'll be out because he needs surgery. He said when he won the title, his friend Paul told him to enjoy to enjoy the ride and was said he was proud to represent the WWE and the fans. He said he had no choice but to surrender the World title and handed it to Long. He said that he will return and he will be World champion again and until then whoever has the title is only holding a belt because they didn't beat Batista.
They showed Batista leaving with agents and officials wishing him good luck on his recovery. Batista hugged Rey Mysterio goodbye.
In the ring, Teddy Long announced a Battle Royal for the WWE World title.
Randy Orton asked Long to postpone his match against Chris Benoit so he could compete in the battle royal. Long turned him down and said he and Benoit would only be in one match tonight.
Orton vs. Chris Benoit: Nick Patrick ejects Booker T and Sharmell. Patrick was bumped. Orton went for the RKO but Orlando Jordan ran out. Orton hit him. Benoit locked on the crossface and Orton tapped but there was no ref. Booker hit Benoit with the belt and Orton made the cover. Booker was announced as the new United States champ. A long match.
Backstage, Roddy Piper came across JBL and Jillian Hall. JBL asked Piper to have him as a guest on Piper's Pit instead of the Boogeyman. Piper turned him down but changed his mind after JBL insulted him.
They aired a video package on El Paso honoring the memory of Eddie Guerrero.
Piper's Pit: Piper noted the first Pit was here in Philly 22 years ago. He went to introduce JBL who came out before he had the chance. JBL ripped on Batista giving up the belt because he was hurt. JBL cut a long promo with Piper pretending to fall asleep. Piper began making fun of Jillian Hall's mole. Boogeyman came out. JBL shoved Hall into Boogey, who bit off her mole. She ran away screaming.
Main Event Battle Royal: Animal, Simon Dean, Nunzio, Vito, Paul London, Brian Kendrick, Orlando Jordan, William Regal, Paul Burchill, MNM, Mark Henry, The Mexicools, JBL, Matt Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Sylvan, and Bobby Lashley were in the ring when Kurt Angle, with Daivari, was announced as the surprise 20th competitor. He threw JBL out immediately. Henry and Angle brawled on the floor. Henry pressed and dropped him on the announcing table. It came down to Henry and Rey. The entire place chanted for Eddie Guerrero. Rey got a ton of offense but was tossed out. Angle returned to the ring and faced off with Henry. Angle eventually eliminated him. Kurt Angle is your new WWE World champion. They had fireworks and confetti for the win.

I'm sorry, but look at that list of entrants for the battle royal. How the hell can they have Benoit and Orton not be in it. And where the fuck is The Undertaker? It now makes even less sense for him to go over Orton, since he hasn't appeared or been mentioned since.
JBL and Rey are they only legit possible winners in that match, until Angle is announced. And JBL gets tossed right away? Give me a break. And why did Henry last till the end? Someone is smoking some serious shit backstage.

Dude, they seriously just put the US on Booker and HE'S FUCKING INJURED. Good job WWE, you do the Angle thing right and fuck Benoit out of a midcard title................what fucking morons.
Scrooge McSuck - January 11, 2006 02:03 PM (GMT)
WWE: Always 1 step forward and 562 steps back. (applauds)
SamoaRowe - January 11, 2006 03:43 PM (GMT)
Wow, as cool as it is that Angle is the new World Champion, having Booker T become U.S. champion again in his current condition is all kinds of stupid.
I can only hope/assume that he is on the verge of coming back. Otherwise, it would be a situation of "Congrats, here is the U.S. title, but we have to strip it from you because you are injured."
dynamite kido - January 11, 2006 04:16 PM (GMT)
I also like how Orton just wins the title and gives it too him.
If that doesn't make Orton a super badass heel......

Wait... I thought handing over a title to someone was against the WWF Rule Book? VACATE THE BELT!

Well, I guess it was approved this time by Teddy Long.

I actually prefer Benoit without the US Title. Leaves more room open for a feud with Angle...

I see your point.........although I wouldn't count on it.

I read a report at Lords of Pain (so take it for what it's worth) that Angle is still going to be on Raw this week to face Shawn Michaels, and that the title situation will be addressed. It sounds like it's going to be another interesting episode of Raw.

Two different things. He's vacating the title...not handing it over to someone. They've vacated several titles numerous times over the years (see: Your Pal, HBK in 1997, Austin in 98, the tag titles whenever they felt like it, etc.).
If he had handed it over to Teddy Long and Long was suddenly the champion, that would be illegal. You can ask Ted DiBiase for more clarification on that issue :)
Oh yeah...it's also kinda' neat that LARRY CSONKA was on-hand for this report. Haven't seem him since that American Gladiators gig.
jamiegeist - January 11, 2006 10:13 PM (GMT)
But he IS handing it over. He gives it right to Booker, according to the spoilers.
jamiegeist - January 11, 2006 10:15 PM (GMT)
I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing. The real answer of course is that Randy Orton never wins the title. He is simply representing Booker T in the series, and wins, as his represenative.
I'm interested to see what Orton's "you'll owe me one" is going to be. If its just a shot at the title, thats lame. He should try to bang Sharmell. She, along with the Boogeyman, are the best things on Smackdown.
And I'd hit it.
Scrooge McSuck - January 11, 2006 10:22 PM (GMT)
My pal HBK? I hate sarcasm!
eStragand - January 11, 2006 10:31 PM (GMT)
Ohhhh! Nevermind... I thought the controversy was over Batista giving the title to Long... not the Booker/Orton thing.
WCW did a similar thing in 1998, when Stevie Ray suddenly walked out and declared that he was defending the TV Title for his injured brother, Booker T.
jamiegeist - January 12, 2006 01:09 AM (GMT)
I just noticed something from the spoilers: 2 matches.
Can you really only have 2 matches on a 2 hour show? Is it even possible?
SamoaRowe - January 12, 2006 03:22 AM (GMT)
I'm guessing they are going to be very long matches with lots of commercial breaks.
I can think of two episodes of Raw that had two matches. The first one is the one that featured a long battle royal for the number one contender and the Iron Man match between Triple H and Chris Benoit. That one was understandable.
The other one featured a boring Jericho/Edge match, an overly long Regal/Flair match, and the "wedding from hell" between Kane and Lita.
Colcollazo - January 13, 2006 02:45 AM (GMT)
I agree with jamiegeist, where the fuck is Undertaker? Guess he's coming back for the Royal Rumble. Totally unexpected thing to do by putting the strap on Angle, but it's cool.
And why, why would they put the US Title on Booker T? A promotion with any common fuckin sense would not put a championship on an injured wrestler, or would they? Benoit should just leave he's already worked with HHH, Angle, Rey and Michaels, and he's in their top 5 workers ever (based on amount of good matches). He's won the World Title at WrestleMania and he's already worked with all of the remaining good workers, just quit, leave. He's stable enough with money currently and he'd continue to just as well if he'd work on a lesser schedule in Japan and in the indies.

Weird. That was the last RAW that I actually went to.
