Title: WWE interested in Jay Lethal
Description: to team with Haas

Real F'n Show - January 9, 2006 06:41 PM (GMT)
It's in the Observer. Possibly a new WGTT, although they'd be better off just reforming the original.

Main reason is to sign him before TNA does.

Lethal's not that great, but a team with Haas could be fun. Just get them a manager to do the talking...

dynamite kido - January 9, 2006 06:42 PM (GMT)
Honestly, I like Lethal and I've said several times that he's the kind of guy that the WWE should be interested in. However this could just be a play on their part to butter the roll of Samoa Joe because he and Lethal are personal friends.

Real F'n Show - January 9, 2006 06:45 PM (GMT)
Very true about the Joe part, but I have to disagree that WWE should be interested in him.

He's pretty much the opposite of what they're looking for, small, and not good on the mic.

Yeah, but he can work well and is young. So basically he's still in the "He can be molded" stage that they like. Although I'd much rather see him anywhere but the WWE................he's a good prospect for them.

prof_plague - January 9, 2006 06:47 PM (GMT)
Oh! I so called this, and the tag team of Haas and Lethal! (Except I original said it would happen in TNA, thinking Haas would go to TNA where his wife is, and that TNA would have been interested with Lethal.)

...Now only if WWE notices Colt...

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2006 06:52 PM (GMT)
I never understood why people would want their favorite Indy stars to sign with WWE. These days, WWE will let them wrestle "their style" for a week, then nueter them of everything cool, rarely let them talk, and bury them on Heat/Velocity.

Exactly the point I made above. The only reason I could understand is if the said person couldn't see their favorite indy's enough. Otherwise, yeah........it's a pretty stupid thing to wish for.

Yes, that is true, but it's easier to see these indy stars (at least jobbing oh Heat) with the WWE, but you don't have to spend $20-$25 per DVD to see your favourite indy wrestler. And who knows, may be one of your favourite wrestlers will have break-through and may be one day win a major title.

Real F'n Show - January 9, 2006 06:57 PM (GMT)
The only good I could see would being glad for your favorite indy wrestler that they finally made it big and are making the big bucks.

Plus, as much as us smarks don't want to hear it, I'm sure many of them would rather be having 4 minute matches that are easier on their bodies, than killing themselves for 40 minutes every night in front of 200 people.

SamoaRowe - January 9, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)
A Lethal/Haas tag team sounds pretty good on paper... until WWE gives them a gimmick of wrestling astronauts or blind guys and treat Haas as if he hadn't been a Smackdown superstar for two and a half years prior to the team.

Lethal would have better luck in TNA.

Real F'n Show - January 9, 2006 06:59 PM (GMT)
A blind tag team would be golden, though.

Think of the comedy.

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2006 07:00 PM (GMT)
(thinks of Police Academy: Mission to Moscow)

Ugh!

SamoaRowe - January 9, 2006 07:01 PM (GMT)
Or better yet, they would be a "Hear no evil, see no evil" team, with one of them being blind and the other one being deaf.

They would be huge. Eugene could be their manager too.

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2006 07:02 PM (GMT)
Their manager should have no tongue/ability to speak, just to drive the point home more (see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil).

This is very true. WWE is good to these guys whether we want to admit it or not. They make more money under contract, know they're getting a sold paycheck and not have to worry about getting onto the next indy show and work shorter matches, and worry less about injury, or if they get injured, how to pay for it.

And if your favourite indy wrestler makes it big, t's always fun to say, "I've watched him since the started of his career."

I know somepeople say 'Why did :insert indy wrelster's name here: go to WWE, he's never going to be used, he's not going to get pushed big', and so on, ummm...for the money? You think Val Venis wants to lose every week? No. But he gets good pay check and has loyalty to the WWE, and they have loyalty to him - he has a good position in the company now for at least another few years.

I couldn't disagree with that more. I'm pretty sure most of them WOULDN'T want to work on the road over 280 days a year and travel as much. The only reason people want to be in the WWE is because it's a dream for them, or it's a chance to make BIG money in wrestling. Otherwise, I'm sure most wouldn't mind working the indies (at least the ones that can make a living from it which would be the only guys the WWE would be interested in anyway)....

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
WOO! DK is on my side! Difference between Indy's and WWE: If you have a real job, you can pick your dates and don't have to worry about eating painkillers like candy just to get through the day because you're going almost 300 days a year with maybe 1 day off a week.

SamoaRowe - January 9, 2006 07:07 PM (GMT)
It would be ironic if the next headline on WWE.com was the announcement that Val Venis has been released.

Plague has a good point though. WWE seems to be the place indy wrestlers go when they want to feed their families and be in better physical condition. Then again, while the matches are shorter, I'm sure they would be working more dates with WWE than they would in the indys. On the other hand, it can be a frustrating place for them if they are creatively restricted. It's sort of like an indy music star who would rather play small venues and sell limited numbers of cds because they wouldn't want to change their style to have to sign for a major label.

But the WWE is NOT a place the indy guys go to feed their families. Plain and simple..............the WWE pays shit for up and coming indy guys. They get the lowest of low end guarantees and basically no incentives. They don't get paid the big bucks at that point until they reup their contracts and that's only if they've done anything significant.

Maven was making $60,000 a year I heard. My uncle makes that a week (I forgot to mention he's like a millionaire).

The old minimum salary for baseball players is nearly double that ($110,000 was it?)

SamoaRowe - January 9, 2006 07:12 PM (GMT)
DK, I'm just thinking that there is probably a reason why Paul London has remained in WWE all this time despite obvious creative differences. I'm also thinking of why Kendrick went back despite his unhappiness there the first time around. Also see James Gibson.

There has to be some incentive for them wanting to be there other than a "dream" because I am positive none of those guys would have any difficulty getting good work on the indy scene.

It should also be mentioned that guys making $60,000 a year still have to pay for their own hotels, rental cars, food, etc etc.

A friend of mine went to OVW a few years ago during one of their tryout camps and was schooled to the shitty ways of WWE pay according to Crash Holly.

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
Spanky... I mean Kendrick did it for the steady paycheck. But he's the exception, not the rule.

Gibson's the same way. He was tearing shit up on the indy scene, why else would he go back to WWE?

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
He was only released because of his anal roids. We all read the reports: WWE will bring him back once it blows over. It just took longer than most of us thought.

prof_plague - January 9, 2006 07:43 PM (GMT)
Almost every wrestler has done indy at some point. Even Guerrero and Rey-Rey did some indy in late 2001-2002, Matt Hardy was in RoH earlier this year, Raven was still doing RoH while in TNA, Tommy Dreamer and Steven Richards have both showed up at RoH shows while under contract with the WWE.

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2006 07:58 PM (GMT)
Not to start this again, but TNA still was Indy back when Raven was working ROH. All they had was a PPV deal for weekly broadcasts. Now they have a national cable timeslot.

You'd be surprised how few people understand that. My head almost explodes everytime I have to explain to someone that having a $100,000 contract in the WWF is like making $50,000 a year when you take expenses into account.

Can you imagine how many guys sign and then realize that they totally fucked themselves?

Mad Dog - January 9, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
A couple probably.

I'll also throw in that CM Punk was been absolutely terrible since he got to OVW.

I think it's that way when the wrestlers start out, but then WWE covers once you've been with them for a while.

Yeah it was around a ****1/2 match but it was all because of Albright. Punk hasn't gone over ** in anything else he's been in while there.

dynamite kido - January 9, 2006 10:47 PM (GMT)
Sweet. I may have to track that down. I actually want to see more of Albright though. I've heard plenty good things about him. You a fan of his MD?

Mad Dog - January 10, 2006 04:52 AM (GMT)
He's got a lot of talent but has no one around him to make use of it with. He's definately a quality talent that will never get a serious push in the WWF.
