Title: January
Description: A new year and hope for better wrestling

What are you watching?
I'm watching the best of AJ Styles disc from TNA. So far I am underwhelmed.
SamoaRowe - January 3, 2006 06:01 PM (GMT)
I'm watching that same disc, and I really got into the series of matches involving Styles, Low Ki, and Lynn.
whitemilesdavis - January 3, 2006 06:39 PM (GMT)
I found it to be overkill. Some of it was good, but it was just a bit much.
Mad Dog - January 3, 2006 11:28 PM (GMT)
Loved their regular 3 way. I would put it at ****1/2. Thought the ladder match was a lot weaker and am constantly surprised that people talk about it more.
Got the Wrestling Gold DVD set today. Watching Adrian Adonis vs. Bob Orton Jr. from SECW. Cornette and Meltzer doing commentary is gold.
Mad Dog - January 4, 2006 09:34 AM (GMT)
Kid Kash vs. Dustin Rhodes - Final Resolution 05
This was a great match. Rhodes sells like a madman in this match and as usual times his face comebacks really well. Kash plays his heel role really well by faking an injury and then just relentlessly attacking the knee. I'd give it ***1/4.
jamiegeist - January 5, 2006 12:02 AM (GMT)
I also loved that match. One of the first TNA PPV's I actually watched all the way through, and that match was really great. The fact that Runnels is about 6 inches taller than him wasn't even a factor or thought in the match -- which is a testament to both men's work in that match.
Real F'n Show - January 5, 2006 01:07 AM (GMT)
Watched Kobashi vs. Misawa from 3-1-03 the other day featuring the nutso Tiger Suplex off the ramp spot. Still makes me cringe every time I see it...

Speaking of something I haven't watched in a couple of years. That's a hell of a match too............
Real F'n Show - January 5, 2006 01:59 AM (GMT)
Yep. While the Super J Cup '94 got me into Puro, that was the match that got me hooked for good.
Mad Dog - January 6, 2006 01:04 AM (GMT)
So far I think I've enjoyed Cornette and Meltzer's commentary more than the matches on the Wrestling Gold set. That's not to say the matches are bad it's just they have so much insight into wrestling. I think a lot of online posters should be forced to listen to these so they can actually learn what wrestling was.
Also due to their commentary I must find footage of the wrestling bear. That's gotta be some hilarious shit.
Mad Dog - January 6, 2006 03:11 AM (GMT)
Thank goodness, they had the wrestling bear on the next disc of the set.
Mad Dog - January 12, 2006 01:57 PM (GMT)

Real F'n Show - January 13, 2006 03:55 AM (GMT)
Watched Kobashi vs. Hansen from 1993 earlier. Probably a top 10 match ever in my opinion.
Tomorrow as I recover from getting my wisdom teeth out I plan on watching the entire Champion's Carnival 1995...
dynamite kido - January 13, 2006 01:51 PM (GMT)
Dude you ever see Champions Carnival 95.....................OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOn painkillers?
whitemilesdavis - January 13, 2006 01:55 PM (GMT)
Watching the funks in Japan. Great, great stuff. Dory vs. Jack Briscoe is strong, as is The Funks vs. Steamboat/ Youngblood.

Great fucking choice WMD. I'm HUGE on the Funks in Japan. You get to any of their stuff vs. The Sheik and Abdullah yet?
whitemilesdavis - January 13, 2006 02:25 PM (GMT)
Haven't watched it yet, though there is at least one match on there. Pretty good stuff?
By the way, Isn't it funny that there is no way in hell Dory Funk Jr. would make it in today's wrestling? His look was horrible, but he could wrestle.

You haven't seen the Funks vs. Abby/Sheik yet? Dude, your in for a fucking treat and a half.
You've NEVER seen a chaotic brawl like those guys had. They fight in the crowd, their stabbing each other with shit, motherfuckers are getting set on fire, and Dory still WRESTLES. It's fucking incredible and I'll tell anyone that Sheik and Abby were mostly garbage.
Enjoy.
By the way...........Dory wouldn't make it today..............but he's easily one of the better groundgame guys I've ever seen.

He and Briscoe were flying around that ring in their match. When you think of old school wrestling, that match isn't what you picture. You think of 5 minute headlocks and such, but those two were really moving. Sure, there wasn't any x-style offense, but what they were doing doing was so crisp. If there has been a better ground-game than Dory Jr., I'd say it would be Jack Briscoe.
dynamite kido - January 13, 2006 03:58 PM (GMT)
Honestly, Jack Briscoe is probably the ONLY person that comes to mind that has a better ground game than Dory. Good call.
whitemilesdavis - January 13, 2006 04:10 PM (GMT)
It's sad to think of what we are missing today because of Vince's roid fetish.

Shit, it's sad enough to see what Vince has already squandered because of that for the last 20 years.

The Destroyer might be better than both of them.

Nice choice...............but I would disagree. But it's just a preference thing.
whitemilesdavis - January 13, 2006 06:15 PM (GMT)
I'd see Destroyer as more of an earlier brawler, badass type guy. Maybe it's just what I've seen of him.
dynamite kido - January 13, 2006 06:25 PM (GMT)
Personally I've always got a kick out of his match against The Bear. Not a wrestler called the Bear........a REAL bear.
Mad Dog - January 13, 2006 08:57 PM (GMT)
His commentary on that match is hilarious. The Destroyer is without a doubt one of my all time favorites. He's got to be the happiest human being ever.
Big F'N Swigg - January 15, 2006 05:45 AM (GMT)

Yep. That was loads of fun. Sheik was bleeding before he got in the ring. I realize Foley covered it in "Have a Nice Day", but man, Terry Funk throws the best punches. It's kind of a silly thing to notice, but if Cena would just study that, he wouldn't suck half as much.
prof_plague - January 20, 2006 08:30 PM (GMT)
I'm watching WM XIX right now, and that was the best Women's match I think I've seen in a long time, probably one of the best I've seen, actually. Victoria © vs. Jazz vs. Trish Stratus in a Triple Threat match for the Women's title was fantastic. Trish took a ton of hits and sold all of them well, and didn't have much offense. Jazz kicked ass on the offense and nailed a ton of good moves, same goes for Victoria. Victoria did the best overall in the match with the best overall in offense, defense, and selling. And all three played to the crowd, worked off of each other, and the entire match just flowed together.
