Title: January iMPACT Discussion

Big F'N Swigg - January 1, 2006 08:01 PM (GMT)
Go on, discuss

Mad Dog - January 1, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
I liked the little music video they did.

Daniels new entrance attire was pretty nice too. The tag title match was pretty good but the commercials were killers.

Scrooge McSuck - January 1, 2006 11:39 PM (GMT)
1 commercial I can understand, but 2? Way to fucking go SpikeTV. (yes, I know Spike is responsible, so HUZZAH!)

Mad Dog - January 1, 2006 11:44 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I was really hoping Spike would just do a commercial between the intro and the start of the match and then just give us the entire match. They do it for UFC stuff. Bastards.

I wonder if Shannon Moore's little mohawk is real or just a wig. I know people are upset about the interference but I guess he did technically punk the X Division by keeping the tag titles way from them.

dynamite kido - January 2, 2006 12:10 AM (GMT)
I wonder what Moore's attack means to the fact of AJ/Tanahashi happening at the next ppv..........or was that suppost to be the PPV after Final Resolution?

Mad Dog - January 2, 2006 12:16 AM (GMT)
It's at the upcoming PPV. They could maybe do Sabin/Moore to build up to Styles/Moore or Daniels/Moore at the next PPV.

prof_plague - January 3, 2006 07:10 PM (GMT)
I turned my head for a second, how did Moore lay out Styles?

jamiegeist - January 3, 2006 09:12 PM (GMT)
He did kind of a "blockbuster" type neckbreaker move. Flipped off the second rope, and hit a swinging neckbreaker...basically. The sell and the move were off though, and it looked kind of retarded.

I thought they were going with a Shelley-Moore feud since he kept showing up whenever Shelley was ringside with his camera. I was ready for that feud too.

dynamite kido - January 3, 2006 09:21 PM (GMT)
His finisher SOOOOO needs to still be called the Mooregasm though.........otherwise, I've lost all interest.

jamiegeist - January 4, 2006 02:48 AM (GMT)
I hope this neckbreak thing looks better in the future if it is his finisher. Cause when you put it up against the other finisher's in the X (Musclebuster, Angel's Wings, Cradle Shock, Styles Clash) it looked downright silly. I really think AJ is mostly to blame though, as he sold it without ever taking his head to the mat. Pretty sure thats what made it look so silly.

The Last Free Voice - January 4, 2006 02:51 AM (GMT)
Sonny Siaki did it better. He didn't even need to get off the middle rope. He just ran and did it.

And I think it should be called "The Revolution" or something else with a bit of a punk edge. I mean, Mooregasam? That's just fucking awful.

Big F'N Swigg - January 4, 2006 04:27 AM (GMT)
I think it would be better if they give us a slow build and don't put Moore in the ring right off the bat. Let him wait another month before we see him in a match. Let him interfere, and cause all kinds of shit

dynamite kido - January 4, 2006 02:32 PM (GMT)

I'll take Mooregasm over "The Revolution" anyday.......

The Last Free Voice - January 4, 2006 08:05 PM (GMT)
Mooregasam just seems... I dunno. Horrible. And Revolution was the first thing that popped in my head. Call it the "California Uber-Breaker" or something. Joking. I just don't like Mooregasam.

Big F'N Swigg - January 4, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
How about "The Slam-Dance?"

whitemilesdavis - January 5, 2006 01:48 AM (GMT)
How about the swinging neck breaker thingy? I'm sick of the catchy gimmick names.

Mad Dog - January 5, 2006 12:09 PM (GMT)
They did a .8 for the 8 show and a .7 for the midnight show. Not bad for New Year's Eve.

Scrooge McSuck - January 5, 2006 01:10 PM (GMT)
Eh, the ratings don't matter anymore now that they've "established" themselves more. Unless it's a .2 or something on a consistant basis, they'll hover in the same neighborhood of .6 and .8.

whitemilesdavis - January 5, 2006 02:02 PM (GMT)
I don't remember them being as low as .6, but it does seem that the same people watch every one of their shows.

Scrooge McSuck - January 5, 2006 02:12 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a safe bet number, but I thought there was a few week streak that the rating was below the usual 0.8.

Mad Dog - January 5, 2006 03:13 PM (GMT)
The weekend Eddie died was a weak rating for them. But they've stayed consistently in the .8-.9 number. Though that does change depending on how many people are watching tv that night. The Christmas Eve show was the highest audience they've pulled so far.

Scrooge McSuck - January 5, 2006 03:21 PM (GMT)
Why is that a surprise? Wrestling nerds who watch at 11 pm on saturday nights? Come on... like we had anything better to do. :D

SamoaRowe - January 5, 2006 03:34 PM (GMT)
I do remember TNA's ratings slipping to a 0.6 for one week, but it was soon back up to the usual 0.8.

I do think that 0.7 for one wrestling match at midnight on New Year's is pretty good. I wouldn't have expected it to be that high, I was thinking more of a 0.4.

Big F'N Swigg - January 8, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
Especially since it was brutally chopped up by commercials

Mad Dog - January 8, 2006 05:02 AM (GMT)
Storm flapping around the ring during the brawl at the end was funnier than it had any right to be. Whoever was saying that segment got totally shit on was overrating things as I suspected they did.

Styles/Sabin/Daniels vs. Generation Next was good.

Mad Dog - January 8, 2006 05:15 AM (GMT)
Eric Young also had the line of the year with the "but won't that make him mad?" comment backstage.

Mad Dog - January 11, 2006 12:05 PM (GMT)
Impact did a .9 rating.

jamiegeist - January 12, 2006 12:45 AM (GMT)
Finally got to watch Impact, and I thought it was a great show. The 6 man was unbelievable, especially for what felt like about a 6 minute match. Everyone in the match seemed really into it and looked to be having a ton of fun as well.

Roderick Strong managed to cut the worst promo I've ever seen, and he didn't even have any lines. He stood there and mouthed EVERY word. Every word that Aries said, every word Zbysko said....everything. That dude needs to learn to do something that resembles acting, or just not do that ever again.

Joe's interview was nice, the first time I've heard him talk. 3D added some motivation and reason for their match with AMW. Everything is shaping up great heading into the show.

The Main Event interview was fun, but really we should've just had another 15 minutes of the 6 man. Eric Young was awesome, as was the chicken. Very good show.

Big F'N Swigg - January 16, 2006 12:00 AM (GMT)
BG James showed some serious motivation in his interview. I was VERY impressed. It's nice to see some fire in him, something he lacked in 3LK.

The Jarrett-Monty segment was as queer as a football bat. Why they showed the two of them sitting like that, I'll never know. They should be threatened, and they seemed a bit bothered, but not much.

And man, has anyone taken the POOOOUUUUUUNNNCCCEEE as many times a Christian?

Scrooge McSuck - January 16, 2006 01:53 AM (GMT)
Maybe Christian takes it better than everyone else? :D

jamiegeist - January 16, 2006 02:52 AM (GMT)
Yeah, he gets pounced quite a bit.

I liked Impact. Felt like a good show, and I was getting quite into the tag team main event, and thought it had great pacing, action, and a nice hot finish, even with the run-ins.

Daniels at the commentary table for Joe's match is just so formula and old. They really need to find new ways to further feuds, other than one guy squashing someone, and then his PPV opponent running in and starting a brawl. It is very tired.

Big F'N Swigg - January 16, 2006 03:31 AM (GMT)
It's true. The squash thing is getting a bit rote

Mad Dog - January 16, 2006 04:42 PM (GMT)
I don't mind the squash matches. It's the right thing for TNA to being doing. They should rarely be giving away PPV calibur stuff on free tv. Part of the problem with the WWF is they've quit doing them. They give away better stuff than you typically got on shows back before Nitro started.

I wanted to add that the James/LAX storyline has been amazing. I'm by no means a fan of anyone involved in this feud other than Homicide but they've really made every step of the way incredible. It seems to have really lit a fire under Konnan and BG James as well. It's probably the best storyline I've seen a wrestling company do in the last 5 years.

I like the music video packages they've been doing recently too.

Scrooge McSuck - January 16, 2006 04:51 PM (GMT)
You hate everyone BUT Homocide? I like everyone but him (to an extent). :) I still say they should push BG James and Billy Outlaw Kip Monty Sop James to the tag titles. The crowd still is into them, despite being old and not very good in the ring.

Mad Dog - January 16, 2006 05:03 PM (GMT)
Give Homicide a break till the summer. His shoulder is messed up pretty badly.

SamoaRowe - January 16, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
If we eventually get a James Gang vs Team 3-D tag title match, I will officially think we've gone back in time to 2000 when it was the New Age Outlaws and Dudley Boyz fighting over tag team gold.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

jamiegeist - January 16, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
Kip James is bearable when he doesn't get on the stick. Saying "I've got 3 words for you", followed by anything at all is just lame and kind of sad in a way. They need to move on.

Oh, I forgot. And I didn't notice my good-up typo of "Homocide" instead of "Homicide."

Big F'N Swigg - January 16, 2006 07:02 PM (GMT)
See, I wouldn't mind the squashes if it wasn't for the fact that every week we see Abyss/Monty Brown clobber someone. Mix it up a bit. They've done a good job lately, but it could use some improvement.

And I've said this before, but they need to 1) quit using the same guys to job by allowing indy workers to be squashed, and 2) Make sure that the character of the wrestler is whats put over in the squash. Though WWE rarely uses the squash, they do it well when they do it.

jamiegeist - January 19, 2006 06:35 AM (GMT)
Holy crap, the Impact! replay on Monday Night reportedly did a .9, up from a .8 on Saturday.

Reported to be, by far, the highest Impact replay, and was helped by a big UFC special, or so i read.

The UFC special did a 1.4, so retaining .9 is actually really strong for SpikeTV.
