Title: 2005 Year In Review
Mad Dog - January 1, 2006 03:32 AM (GMT)
This is to get the 2005 talk out of the tv thread. So get cracking on what you thought about the WWF in 2005.
Scrooge McSuck - January 1, 2006 03:39 AM (GMT)
I can sum up the WWF's 2005 in two words... "It stinks!" 16 PPV's, none of them memorable.
TV matches were only good if they included the same select 3-4 people from each show.
McMahon's run wild in the last 3 months.
Austin walks out again.
Jim Ross has his head up his ass.
Tim White kills himself.
Spitting on Eddie's legacy 2 weeks after his death with the exploding car.
The Juniors Division.
Muhammad Hassan: The Terrorist who wasn't supposed to be a Terrorist.
John Cena making Diesel's 1995 Title run look great.
Shelton Benjamin buried.
Carlito and Chris Masters pushed.
Matt Hardy screwed.
Jillian Hall's weird face ornament that's supposed to be a mole.
Tyson Tomko: UFC Reject (now that's saying something)
2005 Diva Search.
TehDoct0r - January 1, 2006 06:02 PM (GMT)
There was a few good things tho.
HHH puttin over Dave
Shawn vs Shelton
WM21 (save the Cena match)
HBK vs Hogan (fuck all the haters)
Scrooge McSuck - January 1, 2006 11:37 PM (GMT)
1. Batista still sucks, though
2. OVERRATED! *** tops, especially for a TV match broken up by commercials.
4. (takes name off Enemies list)
jamiegeist - January 2, 2006 02:32 AM (GMT)
Not memorable. Lame. Yet still there, on my TV, and still makes my Monday Nights a special night of the week. I don't understand it either.

What about...Royal Rumble, SumerSlam, WrestleMania, Vengeance, or Judgment Day?

I'm sorry Batista isn't Bret Hart, but Batista is still good in every aspect.

Whatever you're drinking, I want a case of it.
Rumble: Uh... what happend? A sucky UT/Heidenreich match? HHH burying Orton?
SSlam: Other than HBK/Hogan, the card was a huge disappointment.
I'll give you the other 3, though, but still. That's less than a .200 batting average. That's bench-warmer numbers in baseball.
prof_plague - January 4, 2006 12:12 AM (GMT)
I think SummerSlam was good, look at the line-up:
Chris Benoit vs. Orlando Orlando - US Title
Edge w/Lita vs. Matt Hardy
Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero - Ladder Match
Kurt Angle vs. Eugene
Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker
John Cena vs. Chris Jericho - WWE title
Batista vs. JBL - No DQ - World title
Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels
I will acknowledge Mysterio vs. Guerrero was a bit of a let down, but it was still a good match. Angle vs. Eugene was good for what it was. Benoit won the US title in, what, 26 seconds. But the rest of the matches were good.
Scrooge McSuck - January 4, 2006 12:16 AM (GMT)
Chris Benoit vs. Orlando Orlando - US Title
- Crap
Edge w/Lita vs. Matt Hardy
- Crap
Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero - Ladder Match
- Disappointing with a horrible finish
Kurt Angle vs. Eugene
- Crap
Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker
- Not nearly as good as WM 21
John Cena vs. Chris Jericho - WWE title
- Good, but nothing spectacular
Batista vs. JBL - No DQ - World title
- Feh
Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels
- Carryjob of the Year

See, I think that was the suprise match of the night. That was a decent match with a good finish.

Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker - Not nearly as good as WM 21 |
Most matches usually aren't as good as WM matches - there's a reason why matches are at WM. And even then, I think the SS match was comparable, and more realistic, than their WM match.
| QUOTE |
Batista vs. JBL - No DQ - World title - Feh |
That was a good match too; especially considering it was a Batista/JBL No DQ match, that also had a good finish.
| QUOTE |
Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels - Carryjob of the Year |
Still, it was a good match - carry job or not. Watch the match passed the carry-job and watch the match as a whole - it was a good match, and it's even better when you put into consideration that Hogan just had a second hip replacement right before SS. And even if you can't look passed the carry-job, it was still a memorable match of 2005.
Scrooge McSuck - January 4, 2006 02:12 AM (GMT)
The show was still rather dull with a pathetic undercard of squashes, bad finishes and lame cop-out endings.
dynamite kido - January 4, 2006 02:40 AM (GMT)
Looks like Scrooge is on the rag again........
Summerslam was one of their better PPV this year and of course as much as I don't want to admit it..........I actually liked most of the matches on top. JBL/Batista wasn't bad, Eddie/Rey had a bad finish.....but it wasn't a bad match either. Angle/Eugene was solid because Angle was on a tear the whole year, and Hogan/HBK was actually a lot better than I expected.
jamiegeist - January 4, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
It would've taken me a long time to think of the card for Summerslam, or even the main event of Hogan/HBK. I don't remember anything about the rumble, and remember Cena winning (I think) when i try really hard.
Wrestlemania. I know there were two titles matches, cause there always is. Cena/JBL and TripleH/Batista. Other than that, I honestly don't remember anything.
So yes, I would say that qualifies as nothing memorable. Thats the problem with having so many PPVs. I can still tell you multiple matches from cards in 91, but I can't tell you 3 from ________________ (name any PPV in the last year). That sucks.
Scrooge McSuck - January 4, 2006 02:47 AM (GMT)
SummerSlam had no stand out great match, the two big undercard feuds were fucked hard (Matt/Edge; Eddie/Rey), and 2 squashes on a PPV doesn't equal awesome. Maybe WWE has been so awful all year that it's clouding my judgment of the show, but under normal circumstances, it doesn't appear to be that way.
SamoaRowe - January 4, 2006 03:04 AM (GMT)
Royal Rumble
The Good:
Orton/HHH was actually pretty solid, better than the Unforgiven match.
Angle/JBL/Big Show was a fun match, though too short.
Edge/HBK had a decent outing.
The Rumble itself was great.
Summerslam
The Good:
Hogan/HBK turns into a good match, carry job or not.
JBL/Batista was underrated, IMHO, though not a great match by any stretch.
Eddie/Rey had me laughing my ass off at the horrible soap opera angle and the "acting" by Dominique.
Cena/Jericho was really good.
So what if Benoit squashed Jordan. Did anyone really want to see them put on another stinker like at the Great American Bash?
prof_plague - January 4, 2006 04:38 AM (GMT)
At SS, I still think Hardy/Edge was a decent match, with an old-school style finish to end their grudge match.

Actually Batista and Cena tied for the win at RR, and then the match was restart, which Batista won.
There were three titles at WM XXI, including the Women's title. I think the only time the WWF/E title wasn't on the line at a WM, I think was at WMI.

Too bad Hogan bled about 50 times harder than Matt Hardy no more than 2 hours later, and that's a shitty finish to a "grudge match."

That's a dream match.
Hardy/Edge had a different storyline to it.
Scrooge McSuck - January 4, 2006 05:56 AM (GMT)
Still makes no sense. I've cut myself worse shaving... OK, I'm lying, but that was one of the weakest finishes for a blade job ever.

It wasn't Cena/JBL or Flair/Race, but it was a decent blade job. I'd rank it with Von Eric/Lawler.
SamoaRowe - January 5, 2006 04:51 AM (GMT)
I was absolutely furious that Edge/Hardy ended at about five minutes or so due to bleeding. I had really been looking forward to that match and while it had been a great brawl while it lasted, I wanted it to go longer... much longer. Besides, if they are going to stop that match due to bleeding than they should stop EVERY match with bleeding in it.
prof_plague - January 5, 2006 06:38 PM (GMT)
SS had two matches that went over 20 minutes, and one the went about 15. I can see why Hardy/Edge and jordan/Benoit went short, but you think Hardy/Edge would have gotten at least two or three minutes more.
