Title: Super Mario Bros. 1 on NES Myths
Description: Minus World? Rainbow World?

Ya'll seem like a good group of guys to mention these things to. My entire life, I've either defending or debunking something about Super Mario Bros 1 on NES. 3 simple questions...

1. Can you jump over the flag pole or not? I don't vividly recall having done it, but part of me thinks the memory is in the back of my mind of actually doing this. Any help?

2. Minus World. Any good gamer mostly knows about this one, and that it is in fact, truth. At the end of level 1-2, you kind of pass through the blocks and go down the first warp pipe to and endless looping water level. My question, is there a -2? Can you get out of that water level? And is this a secret, or just a glitch?

3. Rainbow World. I know for a fact I've never seen it, and I'm pretty sure it doesnt exist. I was with some pretty hardcore gamers who had no clue what I was even talking about though. In level 6-3 (the black and white level) if you stand on a tree about halfway through the level, and jump on the very tip of the Bullets heading your way, Mario gets stuck on them, and starts painting the sky with a vertical line. Now SUPPOSEDLY if you build two lines side by side, you can climb the ladder to "Rainbow World". You always either die or run out of time before you can even approach such a thing though. Just curious if anyone else has played with this, or heard anything about it, or where the silly myth originated.

1. I think I did jump over the flag once, but I'm not too sure. Doesn't sound like an impossible thing to do, as long as you jump from a high enough platform with good speed built up.

2. Don't remember this.

3. That's probably B.S. that has got enough support that people might believe it. Reminds me of Mario RPG. The prototype screenshots in Nintendo Power included several shots that were never in the actual game, but people swear they actually played it (the article came out about 6-7 months before the game was released, and I got it about a week after the release)

I'll probably check later when I play Mario All-Stars (SNES). I never really paid attention to stuff like that.

I'll have to "research" for your questions 2 and 3, but as for one, I have never jumped over the flagpole, far as I remember, and I don't think you can. And if you were to jump over the flagpole, you'd have to turn around, lose a couple seconds, and not be able to jump as high to get more points.

I doubt you can jump over the pole. I've gotten about as high as you can get for those jumps and never done it. Never been to Minus World though.

I can't believe how many people don't know about minus world. I mean, its really stupid and serves no purpose, but you owe it to yourself to check it out.

I knew about it just never took the time to try it.
