I don't often do reviews, but decided I really wanted to watch this show, and took a couple of notes, so why not.
Abyss v Sabu - Barbed Wire Massacre
Start right off with the barbed wire, obviously for scheduling reasons, and it just starts off awesomely brutal on both sides. Sabu just goes total dick when he start actually cutting Abyss' arm open with some kind of foreign object, and the crowd seems pretty grossed out. Nice action, for a barbed wire match, throughout, and I really liked the finish with the boards. Much better than Funk v Sabu, the only other barbed wire match I've really seen. Sabu gets the win after a barbed wire board sandwich. Hard to rate, but I'll go **.
Roderick Strong/Alex Shelly v Austin Aries/Matt Bentley
First off, Traci is like the worst valet ever. Could she wear less revealing clothes, or do less. She is fuckin lame. Aries starts off and continues to impress me, being a total badass with a flipping armdrag, holding on and rolling through for an armbar. A doomsday device with a dropkick by Strong and Shelley puts Aries literally on his head, nasty looking spot. Hot tag spot is nice with Bentley coming in, and then dropping a nice elbow drop with good elevation. The heels take over again, with a kickass Strong gutbuster, too hard to describe, and then an Alex Shelley top rope Senton which was nice as well. Should have probably been the finish, but it isn't as Bentley hits the superkick in the end for the win. Bentley needs to stop doing EVERY HBK move. ***1/2. Incredible action, but not alot of storyline, pacing, or focus.
Raven v Kanyon
How exactly is drudging up former wrestlers making Raven's life a living hell. This still makes absolutely no sense. Solid action, and Kanyon looks pretty good still in there. Raven looks motivated, and isn't sucking. He hits an anklelock which just comes off as nothing but imitation and lame. Raven with a nice kneelift taking Kanyon over the top, and then a powerbomb onto a chair, followed by the DDT for the win. Zbysko talks afterwards, and they fight somemore. ***
4LK v Team Canada
Not much to say here, and it is once again a very paint by numbers, and the same thing we've seen for like 87 PPVs in a row, just adding in Kip James, bitch. Action is blah, and then finish comes when Konnan gets a chair, and gets a nice turn, planting Kip James, bitch. BG is confused, so Konnan laces his ass too. At least its something, I guess. *1/2
Diamonds in the Rough v Dutt, Sabin, Torborg
Nice start with Sabin dropping Skipper on his head, although it looked more like Skipper's fault, honestly. Skipper then returns the favor, dropping Dutt on his head after one of those whirlibird sequences. I really have no clue what Skipper was thinking there, and that was very dangerous. David Young breaks out some nice moves, including a gutwrench kind of suplex thingy, and a swank little spinebuster. Torborg looks okay in there, but more resembles an okay celebrity wrestling, than a former actual wrestler. Dutt hits a nice blackflip DDT thing, and Sabin gives him an assist on the backflip to add a little credibility to the physics of the move. Nice touch. The finish is nice as well, as Peirzynski nails Young with home plate, followed by Cradle shock, followed by a big flipping 450 thing from Dutt. I was feeling this match. ***
Monty Brown v Christian Cage
Nice feeling out process and shit talking from both parties. Christian flexes his offensive muscles by hitting a plancha of sorts from the top rope to the outside. Monty strikes back with some nice offense, including a Gorilla Press over the top to the outside. Monty playing heel great here, telling the fans to move so he can throw Christian into the crowd, and then when they do, he says "nevermind, I do what I want" and throws him into the ring. The Monty beatdown on Christian here drags a little bit, but Christian gets back on the offensive with a nice frog splash. Monty with a tough powerbomb, and then the finish comes with Monty hitting an exposed turnbuckle followed by the Unprettier by Christian. Just felt a bit sluggish to me, and never really gelled. Christian opened up the offense, and should continue to, as it helps. **1/2
Team 3D v AMW - Tables Match
They go right into the ECW style brawl again, and Buh Buh is in super dick mode with some nasty chops. PRetty blah match of setting up the table, and then the tag team partner moving them just in time. Buh Buh backdrops one of AMW to the outside in a nice spot, shooting him clear over the table and onto the other two. No real pacing or feel here as one of AMW is eliminated with the Death Sentence, and then the 3D on the stage for the win. **
AJ Styles v Samoa Joe - X Division Championship
Oh yes, I was waiting for this one. Nice intense start by AJ on the attack earlier. And Joe weathers the storm, and then holy shit, absolutely kicks the shit out of AJ with kicks and slaps. Aweosme spot as Joe is on the floor, AJ on the apron, and Joe kicks AJs feet out from under him, planting him on his face. Joe then hits a giant swing, I guess, on AJ, spinning him around in a hanging powerbomb position, and smashing him hard into the guardrail. Just awesome. Joe stays on the offense with the chop/kick front/back combo, followed by a hard knee to the throat. AJ fights off the facewash, which only pisses Joe off, so he hits it super hard when he finally gets him. AJ springs from the outside in, caught dead for a powerbomb, which Joe rolls over for a DEEEP boston crab. AJ fights out with hard kicks to the head, and Joe retreats to the outside. AJ with a bitchin Shooting Star Press from the inside of the ring out, with no hands. That was fuckin impressive. Moonsatul DDT by AJ, which just amazes me that he makes it look do damn easy. AJ then nails a powerbomb on Joe for a very convincing near fall. Joe then kills AJ dead with a clothesline....and AJ kicks out at 1? Joe is stunned, so he drops him with a double underhook sitdown powerbomb, and AJ kicks out at 1 again. AWESOME shit here, AJ getting jacked up. He nails a stiff Pele on Joe and sets him on the top rope. Joe teases a musclebuster from the top, but AJ counters with a powerbomb, and sets him up for the Styles Clash, which he hits. Joe kicks out, but it works, because of Joe's size, AJ couldnt get him elevated for the Clash, but still hit it. AJ goes for a rollup off the ropes, and Joe counters by pulling the tights, and cincing in the choke! Awesome spot there, and AJ passes out for the victory. That shit ruled all. ****3/4 I'm going to reserve 5 stars, just barely, and only because there were 1, maybe 2 spots where AJ looked a little lost and not sure where they were going next. It could have bee intentional, selling wise, but I wasn't sure, so I'll barely hold off.
Jeff Jarrett v Rhino - NWA World Heavyweight Title
Another garbage brawl for Jarrett, as they head to the outside. Eventually battling on the scaffolding, which Rhino takes a nasty hard fall off of through a table. The crowd is apeshit for Rhino as they go back to the ring and Team Canada makes its way too obvious appearance. Jackie Gayda interferes in another angle going nowhere that no one seems to want to address, and Rhino gets a very near fall with the Gore. Rhino goes for the piledriver off the middle ropes through 2 chairs, which I would have loved, but D'amore hits Rhino with the HOCKEY STICK OF LAMENESS AND UNORIGINALITY and Jarrett finishes with the Stroke on those chairs. Its just getting old. **
Great fuckin PPV from start to finish, but an awesome awesome match from Joe and Styles. Looks like Daniels and Joe now, which just leads to more awesomeness. The stuff with Sting is just more names to try and squeeze into the main event title picture, which is getting very cluttered right now. Jarrett, Rhino, Christian, Monty, Raven, Abyss. I just don't know what the plan is. The young guys like Aries, Strong, Shelley, Joe, and AJ continue to just decimate and destroy the competition with their in ring abilities.
Nice review.
I think the spots where AJ looked off were because he was selling the motherfucking ass kicking he was recieving. He was really good in that role, and I think he was selling the beating (slipping on the ropes, dropping Joe from the Clash). If not, he did a damn good job covering up by acting dazed.
I'd probably rate Christian Cage vs. Monty Brown a little higher (***1/4 or so) and Joe vs. AJ a little lower (****1/4-****1/2), but a damn good review nonetheless.
I actually wanted Christian/Monty to be alot better than I really thought it was. Like I said, not sure what it was, but something just seemed off, especially in the middle for Monty's offensive portion. Still liked every match, overall.
I agree that it wasn't all it could be. It's part of the reason I want TNA to run house shows. So the workers can get in some practice for their matches
Most of the guys in TNA, like Sabin, Bently, Williams, Styles (etc. etc.) work together a lot in other promotions. I see your point though, when it comes to the main eventers who don't exactly show up a lot else where. An easier solution is do dark matches at the TV tapings, like back in the day what WWF and WCW would do.

Unfortunately at this point...........that's probably NEVER going to happen considering how bad the WWE's house show business is right now.
The important thing to remember, though, is that they shouldn't try to fill arenas. They should go for fairgrounds, etc. The same sized venues as ROH. If they try to match WWE in venue size, they'll die within 3 months

Yeah, but I don't think they'd be able to justify all the travel expenses, building rentals, etc because they would only be drawing indy size crowds on the road. Therefore I don't know if it would be worth it for them financially. But as a wrestling fan, I would love to see it. I would check out a TNA house show in a heartbeat.
Maybe they should split the bill with some NWA affiliates first. You know, a TNA vs. Wildside (whatever they're called now), TNA vs NWA Florida, etc.
Or put on a good show in Canada. Have the World Champion fight the Canadian Champion. That'd be fun
Whoa, I really gotta watch Styles vs Joe now since you almost gave it a perfect rating.

It fucking owns, although I wouldn't give it as high of a rating as jamiegeist did. Usually when people call matches ****3/4-***** I end up being disappointed to some degree anyway. You definately should check it out though. Just an awesome ass beating by Joe.
