This was probably my favorite year ever of the WWF. I don't know why just something about the collection of guys they had and the storylines made it a really fun year.
This also marked the brief run of the Brainbusters in the WWF. Anderson and Blanchard were one of my favorite teams from the late 80s NWA era so it was great to see them in the WWF and actually get a run with the titles. Rick Rude was also on fire during this year as he was cutting excellent promos.
And of course the most underrated WWF mid-carder at the time Bad News Brown was around. A heel that was IMO at least 5 years ahead of his time.
1989 was a pretty entertaining year I think.
- You had the Mega Powers Split (Hogan vs. Savage if anyone didn't watch wrestling from this year).
- Demolition were getting more popular every week because they ruled.
- Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard ruled and were given a nice title reign before they wanted to go back to the NWA.
- Good tag matches including teams like the Hart Foundation, Rougeaus, The Rockers, Brain Busters of course, entertaining matches from Demolition.
- The Strike Force split.
- The Twin Towers ruled.
- The Rockers/Brain Busters feud.
- Bad News Brown of course.
- The Blue Blazer putting on good matches with shitty under-card wrestlers.
- Mr. Perfect... thats all. He was just awesome.
The only bad thing that stood out was ZEUS.
Yea, the Main Event at Mania is probablly the best Hogan match I've ever seen. So that was good. And like everyone else said, the tag division ruled.
You bring up one of my two favorite heels from that WWF era Mad Dog. Ravishing Rick Rude. He came for me after I started liking heel Flair. Its funny, as a kid I knew I was supposed to hate the heels but if they made me laugh or entertained me, I dug them. Mr Perfect was another example from this year. Remember the vignettes he did? The guy threw a 60 Touchdown pass...to HIMSELF!! NOW THATS...PERFECT!
Of course Hogan/Savage was incredible too.
Big Hart Foundation fan as well.
