| Am I the only one that thinks Armageddon looks pretty decent on paper thus far? The HIAC will likely be better than most are expecting, since Taker and Orton have some sort of freakish ring chemistry (and Taker usually brings his working boots for HIAC matches). Benoit/Booker is usually an enjoyable match, even if we have been seeing it a lot lately. MNM/Mexicools probably won't have crowd heat, but it should be a fun match. And Batista/Rey vs Big Show/Kane could be decent if booked properly, though it's possible to be a train wreck as well. Overall, this card looks like a big step up over some previous Smackdown ppvs from earlier this year. |

| Here is a brief pre-PPV Heat recap: - Josh Mathews & Steve Romero hosted the show live in Providence, Rhodes Island, which was primarily made up of video packages and highlights reels hyping the main matches on tonight's show. - In the Heat match, Jamie Noble defeated Sho Funaki via submission with a Dragon Sleeper with a bodyscissors. Armageddon Armageddon opened with a video package focusing on the Hell In A Cell match between The Undertaker and Randy Orton. JBL, with Jillian Hall, vs. Matt Hardy. JBL was showing no ill-effects from his "knee injury", actually doing a two-step as he got out of the limo. JBL got on the mic and talked about how he "creates excitement" whether he is in the first match or last, because he is "always the main event". He talked about how the "smallest state" had the "World's Biggest Star" and compared it to Matt Hardy being in the ring with JBL. JBL ripped on Hardy on the mic, and said tonight would be the pinnacle of his career, since he was getting in the ring with JBL. JBL went on and on, until Hardy's music interrupted him. Hardy entered the ring through the crowd, ambushing JBL from behind and knocking him to the floor. Hardy hit a double axhandle off the ring apron, then rammed him back first into the ring apron. They went back into the ring, and JBL threw Hardy into the ropes. Hardy got his neck twisted in the ropes, and JBL kicked and punched Hardy, then yanked on his legs, choking him as Hardy was still trapped between the ropes. Hardy was finally freed from the ropes, and he fell to the floor. JBL hit a short arm clothesline on the floor, then mocked Hardy's hand gesture. JBL hit Hardy with a forearm to the back, then stomped Hardy before rolling him back into the ring. Back in the ring, JBL hit some punches, and Hardy tried to return fire, but JBL slugged him to the mat, stomped him and dropped five elbows in a row. JBL hit a forearm to Hardy's back and kicked him in the head. JBL went for a slam, but Hardy floated over and hit a DDT. Hardy crawled onto JBL for a two count. Both men got up, and JBL hit a shoulderblock, then kicked Hardy in the back before delivering a boot to the face of Hardy. Hardy tried to fire off some punches, but JBL poked him in the eye. JBL rammed Hardy into the top turnbuckle, then fired off several punches. JBL set up Hardy on the top rope for a back superplex, but Hardy elbowed JBL to the mat. Hardy was still favoring his throat from being hung in the ropes. Hardy hit a moonsault on a standing JBL for a two count. JBL got up quickly and yanked a turnbuckle pad off the corner, pointing at Hardy first, which somehow distracted the referee. JBL whipped Hardy back first into the exposed turnbuckle, then hit the Clothesline From Hell for the pin at the seven minute mark. Winner: JBL. They recapped how Batista & Rey Mysterio won the WWE Tag Team Titles from MNM on Smackdown, and how Melina had relations with Batista before the match to try and get him to get out of it. Back live, we saw Super Crazy & Psicosis backstage telling Melina she could make them the same offer she made Batista. She was disgusted, and walked off, and the Mexicools laughed about it. They showed the famous Mankind bumps off of the Hell In A Cell cage. MNM (Joey Mercury & Johnny Nitro, with Melina) vs. The Mexicools (Super Crazy & Psicosis). Mercury started off the match with Psicosis, Mercury hitting a shoulderblock, but missing an elbowdrop. Nitro tagged in and was armdragged by Psicosis. MNM argued over who would stay in with Psicosis. Nitro dodged a charging Psicosis, and Mercury tagged in. Mercury came off the top rope, but Psicosis caught him with a shot to the gut, then dropkicked him to the floor. MNM regrouped on the outside, and Psicosis hit them with a spinning pescado. Super Crazy got set for a dive, but the referee stopped him, so Super Crazy vaulted over the referee into a senton on MNM. Back in the ring, The Mexicools hit a double legwhop, sending Mercury crashing to the mat. Psicosis went to the top rope, but Melina crotched him. Mercury gave Psicosis a rolling neck snap, and Nitro followed up with a slingshot elbowdrop. Psicosis went for a sunset flip as Nitro went for a backdrop, but Mercury tagged in and kicked Psicosis, then hit a short arm clothesline for a two count. Psicosis battled back and gave Nitro and Mercury a legscissors/side mare takedown, but Nitro kept Psicosis from tagging out. Nitro put Psicosis in a front facelock, and knocked Crazy off the apron. Psicosis backdropped Nitro, but Crazy wasn't back on the apron for the tag. Nitro gave Psicosis a back suplex for a two count. Nitro put Psicosis in a cravate, and Psicosis rolled out, but Nitro picked him up and slammed him into the MNM corner. Mercury tagged in, slammed Psicosis, and stayed one move ahead of him until Psicosis gave him an enzugiri. Super Crazy got the hot tag, whipping MNM together and cleaning house with dropkicks. Super Crazy avoided a double slam with an armdrag on Nitro. Super Crazy gave Mercury a tornado DDT, but Nitro broke up the pin. Psicosis gave MNM a flying bodypress. Psicosis and Nitro went to the floor, where Nitro slammed Psicosis into the security wall. Super Crazy went to the top rope, and Melina tried to stop him, but Crazy knocked her to the floor. Super Crazy hit a moonsault on Mercury, but Nitro broke up the cover. Nitro went to backdrop Crazy, but he flipped over it. However, Mercury was back up, and scooped up Crazy, turning him around so he and Nitro could hit the Snapshot (elevated DDT) for the pin at the eight minute mark. Winner: MNM Backstage, Booker T and Sharmell were interviewed by Kristal. They were confident that Booker was going to "sweep" Benoit (Sharmell had a broom) and win the U.S. Title. Sharmell said Kristal could borrow the broom of she needed a ride home later. In another part of the building, Chris Benoit was shown warming up. A video package on the U.S. Title situation was shown. Booker T, with Sharmell, vs. Chris Benoit - Match #4 in a Best Of Seven Series for the U.S. Title (Booker leads, 3-0). There was a "Benoit" chant at the start. They locked up and went into a corner, and Benoit broke clean. Booker went outside the ring and stalled. Back in the ring, Booker backed Benoit into a corner, and broke clean. Booker hit a knee to the gut, but missed a back kick. Benoit hit a pair of chops, and Booker went to the floor. Benoit held the ropes open and invited Booker back in as Booker walked around on the floor again. Booker got in and they locked up, with Booker grabbing a waistlock and going to the mat with Benoit, where Benoit reversed into a waistlock of his own. Benoit switched into a front facelock, but Booker reversed into a hammerlock. Benoit reversed again and went for the Crossface, but Booker grabbed the ropes and pulled himself to the floor. Back in the ring, Benoit went after the legs, hitting a Dragon Screw legwhip and dropping all his weight on the left leg. Benoit applied a stepover toehold on the left leg, then applied an Indian Deathlock. There was a "Let's Go Benoit" chant. Booker raked the eyes to break out of the hold. Benoit chopped Booker hard, but Booker hit a series of knees to the gut. Booker hit a back elbow on Benoit, but Benoit responded with chops. Booker hit a knee to the gut again, then dropped Benoit sideways with a delayed vertical suplex. Booker covered, but Benoit got his foot on the bottom rope. Booker tried to suplex Benoit off the ring apron into the ring, but Benoit floated over Booker and hit a German suplex for a two count. Benoit slammed Booker, then missed a powerdrive elbow. Booker hung Benoit over the ropes, placing him on the apron. Booker charged Benoit, knocking him off the apron and to the floor. They battled on the outside, exchanging chops. Booker rammed Benoit headfirst into the ringpost. Back in the ring, Booker hit Benoit with a dropkick for a two count, then put Benoit in an abdominal stretch, driving his elbow into Benoit's side. Benoit broke free, and he and Booker rammed into each other with clotheslines. Both men were laid out on the mat, and when they got up, Benoit hit a German suplex. Booker elbowed out of an attempted second, but Benoit grabbed him with an elevated belly to belly suplex instead. Benoit then gave Booker the Three Amigos vertical suplex combination (throwing in some knees to the gut before the third). Benoit then gave Booker three consecutive German suplexes and went to the top rope. Sharmell distracted Benoit with the broom. Booker went for a superplex, but Benoit tried to float over, only to crash to the mat. Booker hit a back kick from the ropes, then delivered a missile dropkick for a two count. Booker hit a back kick, then a series of knees with Benoit against the ropes. The referee forced Booker to break on the ropes, and as he did, Sharmell hit Benoit with a low blow. Booker gave Benoit the ax kick, but Benoit kicked out at two. Booker picked Benoit up off the mat and went for the Bookend, but Benoit blocked it and applied the Crippler Crossface. Booker struggled, but made the ropes for the break. Benoit gave Booker T three more German suplexes, and then went to the top rope (away from Sharmell) and hit the top rope headbutt. Benoit covered, but Booker kicked out at two again. Benoit went for the Crossface again, but Booker rolled through it, kicking the referee in the head. Benoit put Booker in the Sharpshooter, and Booker tapped, but the referee was out cold. Sharmell got in the ring and hit Benoit with the broom, which made Benoit angry. Benoit let go of the hold and went after her, which allowed Booker T to get back up. Booker went for the Bookend, but Benoit reversed it into a DDT. Benoit then applied the Crossface, and the referee woke up and saw Booker tap at the twenty minute mark. Winner: Chris Benoit. Booker leads the series, 3-1. They showed Rikishi's bump off of the Hell In A Cell cage from Armageddon 2000. Theodore R. Long and Palmer Canon came to the ring. Long thanked the fans for their support as Smackdown defeated Raw at Survivor Series. Canon got on the mic, and said he had a surprise for the audience. He introduced Santa Claus and his elf, and out came Vito dressed as Santa Claus and Nunzio dressed as an elf, handing out coal to the audience. They mixed holiday music with the FBI theme as they came out. Vito Claus got on the mic and cut a heel Santa promo. Nunzio and Vito said they were tired of giving, and they wanted to receive something, like a tag team title match or a Cruiserweight Title match. Palmer Canon said he had something for them, and out came the Boogeyman. Boogeyman sang "The Boogeyman Is Coming To Get Ya" (to the tune of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town"). Vito threw Nunzio to Boogeyman, and he choked him down. Vito then checked his crotch, as apparently he wet himself. Vito then took off the Santa beard, and charged Boogeyman, but Boogeyman grabbed him and slammed him. Boogeyman then did a spell on Santa's gift bag, reached in and pulled out hundreds and hundreds of worms, throwing them everywhere. Boogeyman then shoved a handful of worms into Vito's mouth before leaving. They showed a video package on the Orton-Undertaker feud. Kristal interviewed Randy Orton & Cowboy Bob Orton (Bob was holding the urn). Bob started to say that Randy needs to keep the Hell In A Cell match in the ring, where he has an advantage over Undertaker. Randy said he has proved the Undertaker isn't invincible, and that he will continue to be the "Legend Killer" by retiring the Undertaker tonight. Randy grabbed the urn and said the Undertaker's "power" was in his hands. Bobby Lashley vs. William Regal & Paul Burchill. Burchill started out with Lashley, with Lashley taking him down with a waistlock and putting him in a front facelock. Lashley hiptossed Burchill, then pulled Regal into the ring with a hiptoss as well. Lashley started to clean house, but Regal kneed him from the apron, and Burchill hit a shoulderblock to the back. Lashley went to the floor, where Regal rammed him back first into the ring apron. Back in the ring, Burchill hit a somersault senton onto Lashley's back in the ring, then applied a rear chinlock. Lashley armdragged out of it. Regal tagged in and hit some forearms to the back, then an exploder suplex. Burchill tagged back in and hit a top rope kneedrop to the back. Lashley kicked out at two. Burchill hit a kneedrop to the back, then tagged in Regal, who set up for a double underhook suplex, but Lashley shoved him into a corner and hit a belly to belly suplex. Burchill tagged in and hit some punches, but Lashley tossed him with several suplexes, and powerslammed Regal as he ran in. Lashley dumped Regal to the floor, gave Burchill a flapjack, then finished him off with the Dominator at the four minute mark. Winner: Bobby Lashley. Josh Mathews was in the Friendly Tap bar, talking with former WWE referee Tim White, who owns the place. White was drinking like crazy, and not talking, just grabbing his shoulder. Mathews talked about how White injured his shoulder refereeing Chris Jericho vs. Triple H in a Hell In A Cell match in May 2002. They showed the footage of the bump White took (which caused a legitimate injury). White said the Cell ruined his life, and that because of that injury, his wife left him, his friends left him, and he has tons of medical problems now. White, playing a total drunk, said he even got irritable bowel syndrome from the injury. White said he had nothing to live for. Josh tried to lighten the mood by saying "Have a 'White' Christmas'. Tim White pulled out a shotgun, and drunkenly staggered off. Josh, looking off camera, said "Please don't do that Mr. White" and we heard a shotgun blast. From Josh's expression, I guess we are supposed to assume that White killed himself. Michael Cole and Tazz mourned for about ten seconds, then we went to the next match. Cruiserweight Champion Juventud Guerrera vs. Kid Kash. They started off fast, with Juventud hitting a rana for a two count, and applying a Fujiwara armbar. Kash was sent to the floor, and Juventud hit him with a pescado. Kash mounted a comeback on the floor, throwing Guerrera into the ringpost shoulder-first twice. Kash yanked Juventud's arm into the ringpost and stomped him in the ring. Kash hit Juventud with a hammerlock slam, then kicked him in the gut and pounded his arm. The fans were chanting "Boring". Kash wrenched in an armbar, and slapped Juventud across the back of the head, yelling for him to give it up. Kash rammed Juventud shoulder first into the turnbuckles twice. Guerrera tried to fire off some punches, but Kash hit a chop. Guerrera rallied, hitting a clothesline and dodging a charging Kash, but his bad shoulder hampered him, and Kash dropped him with a hammerlock slam again. Kash hit a shoulderbreaker for a two count. Guerrera ran into a Kash boot, and Kash slammed him. Kash went for a springboard moonsault, but Guerrera got his knees up as he came down. Juventud psyched himself up, went for a backdrop, but Kash went for a sunset flip, only for Guerrero to roll through it and kick him in the face. Kash went to the top rope, but Juventud crotched him. Juventud gave Kash a top rope rana and an enzugiri. Juventud covered, but Kash kicked out at two. Guerrera hit a Northern Lights suplex, then rolled into a Juvi Driver position, but Kash floated out of that and went for a slam. Juventud floated out of that slam and hit the Juvi Driver for a two count. Juventud went to the top rope, but missed a somersault legdrop. Kash then hit a brainbuster for the pin at the eight minute mark. Winner and new Cruiserweight Champion: Kid Kash. A commercial for the Royal Rumble, with the McMahon family dressed up as Julius Ceasar and Co. aired. There was a chant of "You Screwed Breticus" and they talked about sending 30 men into the "Lion's Den". In the end, Shane stabbed Vince in the back, setting up the "Et tu, Shanicus?" line. A video package setting up the interpromotional tag team match was shown. WWE Tag Team Champions Rey Mysterio & Batista vs. World Tag Team Champions Kane & The Big Show. This is a non-title match. Batista started off with Big Show, and Show shoved him to the mat as they locked up. They locked up again, and Show shoved him down a second time. Batista tried a waistlock, but Show elbowed him away. Batista hit a series of punches, then delivered a pair of clotheslines. Show didn't go down, and as he tried a third, Show grabbed Batista and threw him into a corner. Show ran into a Batista boot, and Batista took Show down with a shoulderblock. Batista landed some rights, but Show got up quickly and hit a back kick. Kane tagged in, but Batista gave him a vertical suplex for a two count. Kane came back with an uppercut and a side slam. Kane went to the top rope, but Batista slammed him off. Rey Mysterio tagged in, to a pop. Mysterio hit a pair of legdrops for a two count, then hit a standing moonsault for another two. Rey threw some kicks at Kane, but they had no effect. Rey tried punching Kane in a corner, but Kane threw him off. Rey rolled backwards and charged Kane again, hitting more punches. Mysterio stayed in motion, hitting a forearm off the second rope. Kane caught a springboard, but Rey got out of his grasp and hit a dropkick to the back. Kane rolled to the floor, while Rey dropkicked Big Show's legs out on the apron. Batista threw Kane back in the ring, and Rey kicked him into 619 position. Big Show grabbed Rey from the floor, pulled him out of the ring and rammed him into the ringpost. Big Show then tossed Rey back into the ring, over the top rope. Kane pounded Rey's back, then tagged in Show, who chopped Rey in the chest. Show teased letting Rey tag, then chopped him down to the mat. Kane tagged in, and Rey fired off some punches, then caught Kane with a back elbow. Kane grabbed Rey for a chokeslam, but Rey blocked it and turned it into a bulldog. Big Show ran in and knocked Batista off the apron. Show and Kane wet up for a double chokeslam on Rey, but Batista ran in and cleaned house, giving Kane a spear and Big Show clothesline. Kane sat up, and Rey dropkicked him in the face. Batista picked up Rey and spun him around, using his body to hit Big Show. Batista gave Kane a spinebuster, the clotheslined Show to the floor. Rey hit Kane with the 619 in the ring. On the floor, Batista clotheslined Big Show and they tumbled over the announce table. In the ring, Rey went for a springboard on Kane, but Kane caught him and then chokeslammed Rey for the win at the nine minute mark. Winners: Big Show & Kane. They showed a video for the "Tribute To The Troops" edition of Raw tomorrow, and the final Hell In A Cell package, this one focusing on the very first Hell In A Cell match, with Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker. Randy Orton, with Cowboy Bob Orton, vs. The Undertaker - Hell In A Cell Orton entered first, then the Undertaker, slamming the door to the Cell shut behind him. Undertaker stalked Orton around the ring at the bell, with Orton staying out of the way of Undertaker's jabs. Orton grabbed a side headlock, but Taker threw him into the ropes and hit a shoulderblock. Orton rolled out of the ring, then got back in when Undertaker gave chase. Back inside, they locked up, and Taker grabbed a headlock. Orton threw him into the ropes, and Taker hit a shoulderblock. Orton came back with a hiptoss and a dropkick for a two count. Orton backdropped Undertaker, but ran into a boot by the Taker. Taker hit a clothesline, then threw Orton over the top rope and to the floor. Undertaker went after Orton on the outside, hitting several punches and a headbutt. Undertaker scooped up Orton and went to ram him into the cage, but Orton floated out and rolled back into the ring. Undertaker got back in, and Orton hit a flurry of right hands, but Taker grabbed him by the throat, tossed him in the corner and pummeled him with punches. Taker rammed Orton into the turnbuckle, then hit a back elbow and a boot to the face. Taker drove his knee into Orton's throat. Undertaker got on the floor, grabbed Orton by an arm and a leg, and pulled him ribs-first into the ringpost. Taker hit an elbow, then stretched Orton across the apron and gave him a boot to the side of the head. Orton crawled around the ring, as Undertaker pursued him. Undertaker stood on his leg to stop him, then stomped his chest. Taker rammed Orton into the ringsteps, then went under the ring and pulled out a chair. Undertaker blasted Orton in the head with the chair. Orton was busted open, and Taker rammed Orton in the gut with the chair. Taker then blasted Orton in the head with the chair again. Undertaker raked Orton's bloody face across the steel mesh. Orton tried to climb up the cage, and Undertaker grabbed him and raked his face across the cage again, right in front of Cowboy Bob Orton. Orton grabbed a steel chain, but never got to use it, as Undertaker rammed him into the ringpost and put him back in the ring. Undertaker picked up the chain and choked Orton with it. Undertaker picked up Orton over his shoulder and rammed him head first into the cage. Undertaker picked up half of the ring steps, but Orton got up and went on the attack, punching and kicking the Undertaker. Orton grabbed the steps, but Taker kicked them into Orton's face, catching Orton's arm on the steps as well. Undertaker rammed Orton into the other half of the steps, then rolled him back into the ring. Undertaker got on the apron, and Orton, in the ring, jumped up and gave Undertaker an RKO, bouncing Taker off the top rope. Undertaker fell to the floor, and Orton went after him, hitting punches and kicks. Orton was favoring the arm he caught on the steps earlier. Orton picked up the steps and rammed them into Undertaker's head. Undertaker was now bleeding as well, and Orton raked his head across the steel mesh. Orton rammed Taker into the ring steps, then grabbed the chain and choked Undertaker with it, using the bottom ring rope for leverage. Orton pulled Undertaker up to the apron and headbutted him, which hurt him more than Taker. Both men were in the ring now, and Orton blasted Undertaker with a chairshot to the head for a two count. Undertaker rolled to the floor and punched Orton as he leaned through the ropes. Taker pulled him to the floor and hit some headbutts, then threw him into the cage. Undertaker then launched himself off the ringsteps and hit a leg lariat on Orton (Air Undertaker?), sandwiching him into the cage wall. Undertaker tossed Orton back into the ring, then slammed him. Undertaker went to the top rope, walked across it, then jumped off for an elbowdrop, but Orton moved out of the way. Orton went under the ring and pulled out a table, a smile on his face. Orton set up the table, stopping to hit Taker with some forearms. Orton kicked Undertaker from the ring, then went back to setting up the table. Cowboy Bob reached through a hold in the links of the cage and grabbed Taker by the hair, holding him in place so Orton could hit more punches. Referees opened the door and came into the Cell to check on Patrick, who was bleeding, and referee Charles Robinson took over the match. Orton covered Undertaker, but he kicked out at two. Undertaker sat up, went on the offensive, and gave Orton the Last Ride powerbomb. Charles Robinson went to count the pin, but Cowboy Bob yanked Robinson out of the ring and knocked him out with a punch. Undertaker went to the floor and pounded Bob with right hands. Undertaker got back into the ring and set up for the tombstone, but Orton swung his legs, reversed positions, and gave Undertaker a tombstone. Referee Jimmy Korderas got into the ring to count the cover, but Undertaker sat up at two. Orton pounded him down, but Taker sat up again. Another Orton punch, another Undertaker sit up. | Well they did that during the first 8 months of it. I always hated how stars would invade the other show in 2002 to their full entrance. That's almost business exposing. |
