Title: So last night on 24/7 I saw...
Description: The Night the Line was Crossed.

Or at least I think that's what it's called. It was on the History of ECW. The entire incident seems so tame nowadays, but that was a huge deal back then, right? What was the general feeling of the IWC, if anyone was around back then?
dynamite kido - November 17, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
I remember it well. There was nothing about the card that was a really huge deal outside of JT Smith almost getting killed by Awesome's tope and the Douglas/Sabu stuff.

So Douglass throwing down and disrespecting the NWA title wasn't a big deal at the time? Was the NWA THAT dead, or were they actually in on it?

Oh. Well, I still thought it was a pretty awesome angle.

No no, don't mistake me. It is a classic promo and a VERY important part of ECW. That was the point where ECW (Eastern Championship Wrestling) turned into ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling).....

Would you say that Douglas throwing down the title was the lowest point in the history of the NWA Title?
Scrooge McSuck - November 18, 2005 04:56 AM (GMT)
Ron Garvin was once World Champion.
Big F'N Swigg - November 18, 2005 05:04 AM (GMT)
Jeff Jarrett is a five time champion, but seriously, would that be the lowest point?
Scrooge McSuck - November 18, 2005 05:07 AM (GMT)
I don't know, the NWA as a whole for the last 15 years has been pretty damn low. I guess screwing Dan Severn out of the belt to give it to Ken Shamrock on the debut PPV of TNA was pretty low of them.
Big F'N Swigg - November 18, 2005 05:32 AM (GMT)
It's true. I say that would be the lowest point because before that WCW had shunned them, and then some indy was spitting on the name NWA. Everything since then was worthless until TNA came around.
And I honestly think letting TNA use the NWA titles was a disaster. But one that the NWA could afford
eStragand - November 18, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
Well, looking at a quick title history, this reign comes to mind as a "low point":
(from solie.org)
----------------------------
53."Colorado Kid" Mike Rapada
09/19/2000-Tampa, FL
Defeats Jerry Flynn in an 8-man tournament final to win vacant title.
-----------------------------
Jerry FLYNN. Not Lynn...Flynn. The guy who had classic matches in WCW's "Block" against the Wall and Meng. I think this was a period of time when the NWA title was fairly unknown..and ended up with Steve Corino, eventually.
dynamite kido - November 19, 2005 06:45 PM (GMT)
It should also be noted eStragand that in between Rapata and Corino.................Hashimoto was also champion.

I still think that a small indy leavigng the NWA in that manner after WCW split could be considered the alliance's lowest point.

That's what I was thinking as well. I also believe that Dan Severn also was NWA champion for well over a year in 1995 or so. So I would certainly call that a "low point".
Big F'N Swigg - November 21, 2005 02:49 AM (GMT)
Quick Question:
Which is worse, Severn or Five Jarrett reigns?
Scrooge McSuck - November 21, 2005 03:07 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... I'll have to go with Jarrett. While having Severn be a multiple time champion, those reigns were when the NWA was nothing more than an Indy promotion, and his top challengers were guys like J-Rush or some other lame ass gimmicky indy name.
Jarrett has been champion when the belt became more recognized since the birth of TNA, and has been a horrible champion. He tried to be the Superman face, but no one bought into it, and he's nothing more than Midcard 4 Life (and that's generous. If I was a wrestling promoter, I wouldn't hire him)
dynamite kido - November 21, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)
Severn is worse. He makes Jeff Jarrett look like fucking Jumbo Tsuruta in the ring.
Big F'N Swigg - November 21, 2005 03:31 AM (GMT)
I haven't seen him in a long while, is he REALLY that bad?
