Title: Bam Bam Bigelow fallen on hard times...

The St. Petersburg Times has an extensive story on former WWF, ECW and WCW star Scott “Bam Bam” Bigelow, who is currently facing some hard times that could lead to prison time.

Bigelow was in a motorcycle accident last month involving he and his girlfriend. Police are investigating possible drunk driving and waiting on blood test results before official charges are filed. Bigelow admitted to having a “few beers” that day, but nothing more than normal. Bigelow does take full responsibility for his actions.

Bigelow broke his nose and got some nasty cuts in the wreck and his girlfriend broke her foot and has a scar on her eye; she was in bad condition in the hospital but recovered well.

Bigelow is currently living in Florida. He is apparently hiding from debt (child support and unpaid medical bills) and while he has made efforts to make payments, if he returned to New Jersey there would be a bench warrant issued for him.

Bigelow now sleeps at his girlfriend or his brother's houses, as he has no place of his own. He has apparently lost all of the money he made in wrestling (up to $1 million a year at one point, according to the article) and is now living off of Social Security disability.

Bigelow blames his current state on the wrestling business, as he was addicted to OxyContin for much of his career, but is now clean. He moved to Florida because the warm weather makes his knees and beat down body feel better.

That sucks.

Although I understand the facts that wrestling can give you shitloads of personal problems.................there's no excuse for being a deadbeat dad. What an asshole.

We're not talking Ricky Morton levels ($70,000 in debt for child support payments). I'm not defending his actions, but it's not like he's making money and not paying. The guys broke and living off disability.

In all fairness, I can give almost anyone the benefit of the doubt. BUT, in Bam Bam's case..........he surely should have SOME money left. Shit, the guy was getting sick fucking Japan paydays for New Japan, he worked for WCW when they were basically throwing money at people, and he main evented a WRESTLEMANIA for christ's sake. He SHOULDN'T be broke.

It's not like he's the only guy to blow his money away. I can safely say the majority of wrestlers who were stars in the 80's and 90's probably are suffering from the same thing, usually because of "personal demons."

My only explanation in Bigelows case is his business didn't work out too well (he opened a delica--can't spell the rest. a deli type restaurant/fast-food joint a few years ago).

Well, I'd say it's fairly common knowledge that most of them have done the same thing. Although they don't have articles on the internet posted about them here do they. ;)

Yeah, bad business decisions could have hurt him, I'm still thinking with the money he made he shouldn't be broke. But what can you do?

I understand that you would want to spend more money if you had, but couldn't you manage some sort of budget or investing with all the money some wrestlers make? I know everyone has hard times, but really.

Having your restaurant tank kinda counts as investing your money.

...You mean the Bushwhackers?

Scrooge McSuck - November 18, 2005 04:23 AM (GMT)
No, I mean Bigelow. If the Bushwackers had one, then that probably bombed too.

I believe they own(ed) a self-named restaurant.
