Title: NBA Hoops Thread
TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 17, 2005 01:02 AM (GMT)
Just noticed we don't have one of these up yet, so on the off chance anyone cares, I'm posting this. How about Larry Brown and the Knicks, eh?
Scrooge McSuck - November 17, 2005 03:49 AM (GMT)
Knicks suck, as expected.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 17, 2005 06:04 AM (GMT)
Amen. The thing I don't understand is why you bring in Larry Brown to coach a bunch of young guys, knowing that
1. They will all come to loathe him with every fiber of their being.
2. He will never play them.
3. They will be traded for a pair of point guards by Isiah.
I'm convinced he's trying to field an entire roster of guards. It's only a matter of time.
Scrooge McSuck - November 17, 2005 06:06 AM (GMT)
Isiah has been on my shit list since trading Charlie Ward... whatever happend to him, by the way? I don't see him listed on anyones roster on Yahoo.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 17, 2005 06:11 AM (GMT)
Ward's on the Rockets now, buried on their depth chart. All you need to do to see how inept Isiah is is to take a look at the Celts. Ainge has assembled a young roster that should be pretty sweet to watch in a couple years. Thomas has dug an enormous hole that it will take at least five years to get out from under.
Scrooge McSuck - November 17, 2005 06:31 AM (GMT)
Blech... and to think, 6 years ago the Knicks were doing pretty fucking well with Latrell Sprewell, Allan Houston, Larry Johnson, Patrick Ewing, Marcus Camby, Charlie Ward, Chris Childs, Kurt Thomas, and a host of others.
Now we have Mr. Best Guard in Basketball, a past-his-rime Anfernee Hardaway... uh... fuck if I can even remember who's on this team anymore. :(
TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 17, 2005 06:44 AM (GMT)
You have Channing Frye, Trevor Ariza, and David Lee for the future...a future that wno't come as long as Larry's there.
Scrooge McSuck - November 17, 2005 06:46 AM (GMT)
The future looks like a sad place to be, judging from that pool of talent. Maybe the Knicks should just tank the season entirely and get the #1 pick of the Draft. Last time we got the 1st pick, we got arguably one of the best centers in recent history, and the team made the playoffs every year for quite some time.
Benoit is God - November 17, 2005 09:50 AM (GMT)
Ward is an assistant coach now.
Mad Dog - November 17, 2005 02:59 PM (GMT)
Pistons are 7-0. Hopefully they can make it back to the Finals this year.
Scrooge McSuck - November 18, 2005 03:38 AM (GMT)
Hopefully their fans don't cause another incident like last season this year.
I think I should jump on the Rockets band wagon. Van Gundy is the coach, Ewing and Ward assisting on the bench... GAH!
TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 18, 2005 04:56 AM (GMT)
I love Yao, but he's the Charmin' Toilet Paper Man on the court.
Scrooge McSuck - November 18, 2005 05:02 AM (GMT)
People only give a shit about Yao because he's 4 feet taller than the next tallest chinese person.

That's viciously racist and completely true at the same time.
Scrooge McSuck - November 18, 2005 05:53 AM (GMT)
How is that racist? I didn't say they were sandal wearing midgets who eat rice all day did I?

No, but I had an eerie feeling that was coming.
Scrooge McSuck - November 18, 2005 05:59 AM (GMT)
Did you say Eevee? I hated that Pokemon.

Yeah, but he was good for 10 points and 5 assists a night.
S.T. Strickler - November 18, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
Bulls are 3-4, and currently 0-2 on their annual mid-November West Coast trip.

Better than being a front runner like my friend who was a 49ers, Lakers, Rangers, and Yankees fan in the 90's. I hated that kid.
Scrooge McSuck - November 19, 2005 01:19 AM (GMT)
I hate front runners... and I grew up watching the Yankees, so nyah to all of you! Every other team for New York really hasn't done much. The Rangers had 1993-94, then went back to their 1943-1992 style of choking. Knicks only made it to the finals 2 times since I became a fan, and both times lost to Texas teams.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - December 6, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
Celts will be good in a couple years with those kids, but it's not particularly fun to watch them now. I'm just wondering what they can get for Paul Pierce.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - December 15, 2005 05:39 PM (GMT)
Anyone want to guess where Artest ends up? I'm gonna say the Lakers.
Scrooge McSuck - December 15, 2005 05:47 PM (GMT)
Hopefully... wait, nah. I don't want him on the Knicks. The Lakers sounds like a good bet. They'll take anyone with an attitude problem. :)
Mad Dog - December 19, 2005 03:43 PM (GMT)
The Pistons are marching along at 18-3. It's good to see the only basketball team left in the NBA is doing so well.
I also love the fact that Miami made all these changes and the team sucks for the most part.

The Pistons look somewhere beyond awesome this year, especially Billups.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - January 31, 2006 03:09 AM (GMT)
I want to believe that Danny Ainge is a genius, and that all these trades and draft picks are going to turn our team into a powerhouse.....but where the fuck are the results? It's maddening thinking he's got some master plan that probably won't show up for at least another year.
S.T. Strickler - January 31, 2006 03:19 AM (GMT)
My Bulls have won 4 straight, and are currently 20-23, 1/2 game behind Washington for the final playoff spot.
jamiegeist - January 31, 2006 05:09 AM (GMT)
Only in the NBA do we talk about playoff spots, and being 1 game OUT OF THEM before even the halfway point of the season.
I watched a game the other night, and they were running down the silliest shit. "Right now, they're 2 games out of the 8 seed in the east, and the Cavs hold the 7th best record in the West".
Thats the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Can't we AT LEAST wait till the All-Star break? And more like, the 3/4 mark?
Especially in the NBA where it seems like more than half the teams get into the playoffs. Just relax until March.
S.T. Strickler - January 31, 2006 01:44 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I know what you mean.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - February 14, 2006 02:45 AM (GMT)
Another reason to hate the sports media: Detroit was being pumped up as a sure finals win and a probable 70 win team....and now they're nowhere close to the 70 wins, and the finals look a little less likely. Why does everyone and everything have to be "the best ever" for anyone to care?
S.T. Strickler - February 14, 2006 02:56 AM (GMT)
Nobody will ever be able to challenge the '95-'96 Bulls 72-10 record.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - February 14, 2006 03:12 AM (GMT)
I dunno. The way this league sucks right now, a truly dominant team might be able to do it. Then again, I don't see a truly dominant team emerging anytime soon.
Scrooge McSuck - February 14, 2006 02:33 PM (GMT)
If one team played nobody but the Knicks, I'm sure they'd do better than 72-10.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - February 14, 2006 03:54 PM (GMT)
Isiah Thomas has to be the worst exec of all time.
Scrooge McSuck - February 14, 2006 04:21 PM (GMT)
In the NBA? Maybe, in sports, both owners of the Florida Marlins from 1998 and last year are high up... and the cock shitter who pretty much fucked the Nationals out of Montreal.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - February 14, 2006 05:25 PM (GMT)
Fair enough....but I'm thinking purely in terms of personnel decisions, where Isiah has been amazingly bad.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - February 15, 2006 05:21 PM (GMT)
So Darko's finally leaving. If the Pistons hadn't been so good during the time he was there, that would've been thumped as one of the worst draft decisions of the last ten years.
