Title: Rebuilding Smackdown

Mad Dog - November 14, 2005 02:35 AM (GMT)
So with the latest news about Guerrero's death Smackdown is now without 2 of it's main eventers and an upper card guy in Christian. Also Benoit's being jobbed out and might be out the door by December. If that happens the show's left with JBL, Randy Orton, Matt Hardy and Rey Mysterio as the highest guys on the card left.

So what happens now. Do they end the brand split or get some Raw talent over there?

prof_plague - November 14, 2005 02:59 AM (GMT)
Might as well send some Raw goes over to help-out SD. Might as well send HHH over so he can win the World Heavyweight title.

jamiegeist - November 14, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
End it. please.

Big F'N Swigg - November 14, 2005 03:13 AM (GMT)
Seriously. It's worthless anyhow

TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 14, 2005 03:14 AM (GMT)
I think they should end it. As much as I like it at times, it just doesn't seem important anymore, and it's time for something new.

Real F'n Show - November 14, 2005 03:17 AM (GMT)
Yeah, it seriously needs to be ended. The rosters are still huge, but I'm sure a lot of dead weight could be cut. cough*divas*cough

HBK, Trips, Flair, Cena, Angle, Kane, Masters, JBL, Orton, Benoit, Mysterio, Booker T, Undertaker, Carlito, Shelton, Hardy, Edge, and possibly Jericho wouldn't be a half bad talent roster if they combined them.

prof_plague - November 14, 2005 03:18 AM (GMT)
SD is still under contract for the time being. Might as well salvage what you can until the contract with UPN runs-up. By then may be WWE can get another TV deal.

I know everyone thinks bullshit when anyone brings up them ending the brand split....................although, I see it happening in the next year or so for sure.

SamoaRowe - November 14, 2005 03:25 PM (GMT)
I'm in agreement that the roster split should end. Just merge the rosters and use both shows with the same upper mid-carders and just manage the mid-card so they'll be on at least one of the two shows. I would also suggest going back to a model they used during the late 90's or so when they would have 7 or 8 matches on a show, but each would be relatively short. I know the actual quality of matches would be hurt, but it would get more guys on each show and it would save us from the boring abdominal stretch parts that seem to be in EVERY match.

Scrooge McSuck - November 14, 2005 11:31 PM (GMT)
Stop making fun of the abdominal stretch! Mike Rotundo made that move famous...er!

SamoaRowe - November 14, 2005 11:39 PM (GMT)
I will never back off the abdominal stretch. Sure, it can be used effectively, but it is such a blatant rest spot in WWE matches these days that it makes me want to scream. For now on, whenever I see that hold, I'm deducting 1/4* from the overall rating (unless by some miracle it is being used effectively).

Scrooge McSuck - November 14, 2005 11:41 PM (GMT)
How about when someone is tugging the ropes.... WITH AUTHORITY~!?

Real F'n Show - November 14, 2005 11:54 PM (GMT)
Abdominal stretch used effectively in:
Rey vs. Eddie - Smackdown 6-23-05
American Dragon vs. CM Punk - ROH Reborn Stage 1
Probably others, those two just come to me

Trips and HBK usually use it as a resthold.

You're being a little harsh there. Heel Scott Hall in WCW made that an effective heat segment in every one of his matches.

Real F'n Show - November 16, 2005 12:05 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but HBK uses it, and he's a FACE. Plus his finisher is a kick to the face, so it adds nothing to the match...

Big F'N Swigg - November 16, 2005 02:04 AM (GMT)
I died laughing when Flair slapped it on last night, thanks a lot guys

Mad Dog - November 16, 2005 10:03 AM (GMT)
Remember Taker's awful triangle choke from a few years ago. It looked more like he was trying to face fuck them instead of getting a submission.

And Orton.

Scrooge McSuck - November 16, 2005 08:07 PM (GMT)
Orton uses everything as a rest hold.
