QUOTE
On Tuesday morning, TNA management informed TNAwrestling.com that the company has come to terms with a "major acquisition" who will appear this Sunday during the live "Genesis" Pay-Per-View.

When reached for comment, TNA President Dixie Carter offered the following:

"This is the single biggest jump in TNA history," Carter said. "The contract is signed, the travel is set and in my opinion, 'Genesis' just got a whole lot more intriguing."

TNA will have further information on the "major acquisition" this Sunday on the live countdown preshow a half hour before "Genesis".

Yes...... it is Christian they're talking about.

Scrooge McSuck - November 8, 2005 10:59 PM (GMT)
Raven was a bigger signing than Christian, but I understand the reasoning behind the hype. Christian as of last week was one of the more known and established guys on Smackdown.

Mad Dog - November 8, 2005 11:04 PM (GMT)
No way. Raven was nowhere near the calibur of signing that Christian is. He was megaover when leaving the WWF and his signing changes the face of the U.S. wrestling scene. A worked actually quit the WWF and went to TNA. That opens the door to Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Paul Heyman coming over.

SamoaRowe - November 8, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
I agree that Christian coming over is a much bigger deal than Raven, but just remember that at the time (2003) it was Earth-shattering.

Scrooge McSuck - November 8, 2005 11:17 PM (GMT)
Christian didn't quit WWE. His contract ran out, and WWE wasn't going to give him what he wanted (more money).

SamoaRowe - November 8, 2005 11:28 PM (GMT)
I think the point is that it is becoming more and more apparent that big-name talent no longer considers WWE to be the place to be.

Scrooge McSuck - November 8, 2005 11:36 PM (GMT)
Christian is a big-name talent? Sorry, I'm a peep too (or only?), but that's a bit of a stretch. Jericho is a big name. Benoit is a big name. Christian is a good move for a potential big name.

Mad Dog - November 8, 2005 11:44 PM (GMT)
Christian could've been main eventing in the WWF this year. He was the most over heel and they responded by a total burial. Just because the WWF doesn't push you doesn't not make you a big name.

And he could've still resigned with the company. He choose not to and instead go to TNA. That indeed does change the scene in the U.S. TNA is a real alternative now.

Scrooge McSuck - November 8, 2005 11:47 PM (GMT)
Oh come on... signing Christian isn't changing anything.

WWF changed the way wrestling was by slapping the world title on Hulk Hogan for 4 years and stealing talent from everyone that was considered a threat.

WCW changed the way wrestling was by giving away PPV caliber matches on regular TV on a weekly basis, and WWF was forced to follow the same.

ECW changed the way wrestling was by introducting "extreme" wrestling, which has been stolen from every promotion on the face of the earth.

Mad Dog - November 8, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
I think you're intentionally missing the point here.

Scrooge McSuck - November 9, 2005 12:00 AM (GMT)
Nah... I'm just really stupid amd tend to overlook the minor points.

Real F'n Show - November 9, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
Christian is perfect for TNA in everyway. Everyone wins. Except WWE, but fuck them anyway. I'll be ordering for this and the awesome 8-man X-division match...

Scrooge McSuck - November 9, 2005 12:37 AM (GMT)
The word making the rounds is that the "major acquisition" that TNA has signed and who will appear at the Genesis PPV on Sunday is Jay "Christian" Reso.

No surprise...

D.A.V.E. - November 9, 2005 01:20 AM (GMT)
I'd love if it was say... Christian AND Jericho, to completely knock socks off of everyone, Benoit after that, you never know.....

whitemilesdavis - November 9, 2005 01:45 AM (GMT)
I think it is Chris Hamrick.

prof_plague - November 9, 2005 01:58 AM (GMT)
I bet the WWE let Punk go, and he's TNA now.

D.A.V.E. - November 9, 2005 01:58 AM (GMT)
He's already worked there

Tracy Smothers, on the other hand

whitemilesdavis - November 9, 2005 02:01 AM (GMT)
Now you're speaking my language. Bring in Southern Comfort to spice up the new tag division.

He has. But he wasn't "former RoH Champion" then, and was allied with Raven, while they were feuding in RoH. Punk is just that much of a bigger name now. Besides, we know it's not Raven.

I bet you it's Colt Cabana.

Awww..."NWA Champion Scott Colton" --sounds good to me.

jamiegeist - November 9, 2005 05:47 AM (GMT)
Hopefully they don't just blow their load and try to shove him into the top program with Jarrett.

I'd love to see him debut a little lower, and get in an actual feud with someone. He'll probably be insta-face just because of the jump, so I say something where he can show off some ring prowess (that I hope and think he has) like maybe with Daniels.

SamoaRowe - November 9, 2005 02:48 PM (GMT)
It's funny, when I was thinking of people in TNA who Christian should feud with first, Daniels hopped right to mind.

And to hype the Christian/Daniels feud, Christian is going to pin the undefeated Samoan Submission Machine with botched interference from Daniels.

Ah, I do not want to see Christian being the first to pin Joe. That would just be upsetting to me, and would not do TNA any favors.

Christian's first wins will probably come over the likes of random Team Canada members and Jerrelle Clark.

I didn't say he would beat Joe right away, but down the line.

I bet money it's Steve Fucking Corino.....

Ok really, it's Christian

- Jay "Christian" Reso has trademarked the name Christian Cage so he will likely use that in TNA. [Wrestlingobserver.com]

From PWInsider:
QUOTE
William Jay Reso (formerly WWE's Christian) filed a trademark for the name "Christian Cage" on 11/2, so that's the name he'll be using in any post-WWE endeavors. He used the name while breaking into the business on the independent scene in 1995 prior to signing with the then-WWF.

The trademark for the term covers, "Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services in the nature of a wrestling club; Entertainment services namely live, televised and movie appearances by a professional entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler."

Reso has also taken out the trademark in regard to action figures, clothing, toys, games, multimedia, and additional items that may be licensed in the future using his likeness.

Scrooge McSuck - November 10, 2005 04:30 AM (GMT)
So they can pretty much call him Christian, as long as all graphics, merchandise, and everything else says "Cage" with it. Sounds good to me.

SamoaRowe - November 10, 2005 04:43 AM (GMT)
"Christian Cage" sounds better than plain old "Christian."

I like how he has held on to the "Captain Charisma" nick-name as well. It would be funny though if WWE tried to sue TNA if they dared refer to him as a "bastard" at all, breaching on the "CLB" name.

Scrooge McSuck - November 10, 2005 04:45 AM (GMT)
Ugh, that's one nickname that didn't get over. Anyone remember the WWF's sad attempt at getting over the "You Are/An Asshole" chant during March-April 2002?

jamiegeist - November 10, 2005 05:23 AM (GMT)
Thats fuckin brilliant and awesome that he got use of Christian Cage, which I agree is a much better name than the stand alone Christian.

I think he could be a real star, and this gets me even more hyped for TNA now.

As long as they clear up the main event picture, and get Monty Brown the fuck out of it.

dynamite kido - November 10, 2005 10:03 PM (GMT)
I guess Christian reads my posts here......

Jericho's Wrestling Page

But then again, Jericho is known for screwing with internet fans.

jamiegeist - November 11, 2005 12:42 AM (GMT)
Man, thats why I love Jericho. He rules like that.

I can't imagine why he wouldn't go to TNA if he decides he wants to wrestle again.

Scrooge McSuck - November 11, 2005 01:04 AM (GMT)
Jericho admitted in a recent interview he's dicking with internet fans who think they know everything because they read it on the internet.

Jericho = Canadian God
