Title: When Do They Give Up On Orton
Mad Dog - December 29, 2004 07:29 AM (GMT)
It's become pretty apparant that they blew it with Orton with the hot shot face turn after Summerslam. So are they going to actually admit defeat over Orton or are we going to get him pushed down our throats forever until we either turn the tv off or just give up and accept him?
Big F'N Swigg - December 29, 2004 02:45 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure that we're gonna get Orton for a while.
Scrooge McSuck - December 29, 2004 02:54 PM (GMT)
It seems like they are teasing a Batista turn. Either he'll turn in time for Wrestlemania, or turn AT Wrestlemania, which would be pretty lame, since then he gets to fight Hunter on meaningless shows that couldn't do a good buyrate to save someones life.
Mad Dog - December 29, 2004 02:55 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure that we're stuck with Orton forever as a top star.
Scrooge McSuck - December 29, 2004 03:03 PM (GMT)
I know about 28% of the fanbase loves Orton. Of course, that 28% is made up of people with bulging breasts and love for penis... and a few guys that are probably (does the tinkerbell motion with hand like Mr. Roper on Three's Company)
TehDoct0r - December 29, 2004 10:33 PM (GMT)
To be quite honest, I don't mind Orton. He was way better as a heel, but I think he's pretty solid and still has plenty of time to develop. I'll go hide now.
Scrooge McSuck - December 29, 2004 11:17 PM (GMT)
... Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
<-- Thinks Kane is the greatest wrestler in WWE. I rest my case.
TehDoct0r - December 29, 2004 11:25 PM (GMT)
Well..... I don't think Orton is the BEST going right now. But I see your point. And Kane can be good in certain contexts, so don't feel bad.
Scrooge McSuck - December 29, 2004 11:38 PM (GMT)
I think I started hating Orton again when they took away the Evolution theme for him and gave him that pussy rock music that makes me sad in pants.
Orton doing that stupid fucking pose that looks like something out of Shakespeare doesn't help either.
Mad Dog - December 30, 2004 07:10 AM (GMT)
I've never liked Orton. It would be more accurate to say I stopped liking Orton when it became apparant that they were trying to make him into the next Rock of the company. I wouldn't mind him as a mid-carder but I don't think he has any business in the spot he currently holds or getting the push he's had.
JD Storm - December 30, 2004 08:37 AM (GMT)
the last time i managed to like Orton was when he did those RNN reports awhile back. always claiming that his shoulder injury, i believe, was 98% healed was amusing.
once he started getting shoved down our throats, i automatically hated him. too much of an effort in making him the next Rock or HBK.
Scrooge McSuck - December 30, 2004 02:45 PM (GMT)
Orton sells too good to be like Shawn Michaels... except for trying to be the hunk for the lady fans... he still fails, because he isn't that good looking from a male POV.
Mad Dog - December 30, 2004 03:41 PM (GMT)
He isn't a good talker either. He still struggles on the mic for the most part.
Scrooge McSuck - December 30, 2004 03:58 PM (GMT)
I was just thinking (randomly)... Bob Orton Jr. had such a not-so-good physique, yet he was a pretty entertaining wrestler and could cut a good promo although not having too great of a voice.
I wonder what went wrong with Wandy.
Mad Dog - December 30, 2004 04:01 PM (GMT)
Bob Orton was a veteran by the time he was in the WWF where Randy is still really green. Also his dad was pretty limited as well hence why he tended to stick to tag teams where he wasn't so exposed.
Scrooge McSuck - December 30, 2004 04:05 PM (GMT)
I'm sure it took a while to develope, but eh... this is 1996-1997 all over again. The Blue-Chipper Rocky Miavia being shoved down out throats despite not being over syndrome. At least Orton has a better finisher than a freakin Shoulderbreaker. Damn, why not just give The Rock the heart punch or something.

No homo, but I think Orton is better looking than Shawn ever was.
Anyways, I think Orton now owns face Rocky.
Scrooge McSuck - December 30, 2004 05:11 PM (GMT)
Everything owns face Rocky Miavia. The character was horrible, he was greener than the Giant Silva, and couldn't do anything but throw dropkicks.

JD Storm mentioned the RNN reports which I thought were awesome. They really had me thinking that Orton was going to be a huge star when he came back because he seemed like he was on his way to being a solid heel. Then he came back from the injury and I just didn't find him all that great on the mic or in the ring. He has a great look sure, but other than that he seems pretty mediocre on the mic and in the ring to have already been World Champion one time.
It didn't help him at all though, that his face turn was not slowly juiced like Batista's is right now. He seemed to be getting at least a fair amount of heel heat but then they just hit the switch on the face turn out of nowhere.
Its curious though, as much as I like HHH that every single heel that starts to generate a decent amount of heat gets turned like Orton and Batista. Its easy to stay the top bad guy on the program when you are the ONLY bad guy on the program I reckon.
Mad Dog - December 31, 2004 06:53 PM (GMT)
That has a lot to do with my total disinterest in the WWF right now. I hate the fact that Evolution is the only group of heels allowed to not look like complete bitches all the time. It seems no other heel is allowed to actually win a match cleanly.
Captain Ass - January 3, 2005 08:33 AM (GMT)
I don't mind Randy that much. I remember when I said he was overrated, but then I saw his matches with Mick Foley and I gained more respect for him.
I think that Raw needed a new top babyface, and they got it. It was too soon, but then again the break up between Randy & Evolution was inevitable anyways. He's good on the mic, he's young and people love him. He's a better heel though.
Scrooge McSuck - January 3, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
The saying is true: It's cool to be heel, because when you're the good guy, you look like shit. Unless your name is Steve Austin, The Undertaker, or The Rock.
PedigreeMC - January 4, 2005 05:18 PM (GMT)
The addition of Hulk Hogan makes that list complete Bobcat.
By the way CA, I agree that Randy did have some good matches with Foley but lets remember, it is Foley. Foley never disappoints in a match where he is putting someone over to make or break their career. We all remember how he launched HHH with his series of matches with him in early 2000. Foley was also in incredible (for him I mean) shape to make sure he was fast and spry in there with Orton.
Besides Foley the only other good match he was in was with Beniot, who rules.

i honestly believed, during the RNN skits, that Orton could be a major superstar. the way he was played up, he could've easily been one of the best. now, like you've mentioned, he's not all that special.
he's just way too bland....too generic. the most i could believe him getting is IC Champ. yet, he somehow got pushed into World Champ & contender. i'll never understand the fascination WWE has with him.
Guest - January 6, 2005 08:07 AM (GMT)
What I describe Randy as is a kid that wants to make it back to the top of the WWE mountain. Now does that sound generic? Yep. That's because he is generic. It's not his fault, it's the writers & management that keep the vanilla boy on the generic character list.
(vanilla boy meaning plain, ordinary....generic)

Really the only thing that Orton has going for himself right now is the RKO. In the ring he just doesn't seem to be the worker we all expect him too. He is a young athletic guy, yet somehow he wrestles like any other babyfaced jobber. To go with that, he still stumbles all over himself on the microphone and really never seems to have anything to say. I reckon now that the audience chants "R..K..O" with him though, the WWF will think that hes over. Orton will never be good as a face. He was at the very least irritating as a heel which is something. They are going to HAVE to switch him back at some point or he'll be working Heat alot more.
WrestlingDreams - January 6, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
wwe please turn randy back in to a heel this whole his babyface orton is a simple failure
TehDoct0r - January 6, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
That's the first post like that I've seen on this board. ::hangs head::
I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying, and Orton is certainly leagues better as a heel, but I like him just beacause he's pretty refreshing. He's not one of the same six guys we've seen main eventing since 98. Makes me happy. And he has plenty of time to mature into something better.
