Title: UFC Unleashed Replay 11-3-05
Description: Nick Diaz and Diego Sanchez

Mad Dog - November 7, 2005 05:24 AM (GMT)
Marching towards the Ultimate Fighter Finale we get a look at the guys that will be main eventing that show.

Welterweight Bout:
Nick Diaz 10-3-0 vs. Koji Oishi 11-3-5

Background:
This is from UFC 53. Oishi has basically been brought in as a jobber for Diaz.

Round 1:
They exchange shots until Diaz hits a knee. Diaz dazes Oishi and goes for the kill. Oishi blocks a kick and they clinch. Diaz hits a couple of knees before they break up. Diaz pounds on Oishi until he goes down. Diaz pounds him on the ground until the ref stops things at 1:24. 1 for 1.

WINNER: Nick Diaz by TKO 1:24 into Round 1

Welterweight Bout:
Nick Diaz 8-2-0 vs. Robbie Lawler 8-1-0

Background:
This is from UFC 44. Robbie Lawler was being built up as the next big thing at this point. Nick Diaz had only had 1 try out fight in the UFC leading up to this. Little was known about his skills going into this.

Round 1:
They circle and Diaz floors Lawler with a jab. Lawler gets a quick flurry and they circle. They exchange punches and circle. Diaz hits a knee and then misses a kick. Diaz hits some hard jabs. Lawler gets mad and charges but doesn't land a single shot. Diaz keeps Lawler at bay with jabs. They clinch and exchange knees. Lawler rocks Diaz and hits a nice knee. They circle and exchange shots to end the round.

Round 2:
Lawler gets the better of an exchange. They jab at each other until Lawler gets a few nice shots in. Lawler with a flurry but one jab from Diaz ends it at 1:31. A star is born as the next big thing fizzles out. 2 for 2.

WINNER: Nick Diaz by KO 1:31 into Round 2

Welterweight Bout:
Diego Sanchez 14-0-0 vs. Brian Gassaway 18-9-3

Background:
This is similiar to the first fight in that Gassaway is essentially a jobber for Diego to beat. This is from UFC 54 and is the PPV debut for both.

Round 1:
Diego unsuccessfully shots in. They exchange jabs and Diego shoots in for a takedown. They roll around and Diego gets a guillotine. Diego gets side control and it's GNP time. They battle over position for a long time while Diego hits elbows. Diego switches from a mount to the back as he punishes Brian. Brian finally manages to get to his feet. Diego gets another takedown to end the round.

Round 2:
Diego gets rocked while grabbing a takedown. Diego easily grabs the mount and punches Brian until he taps at 1:56. Totally squash here. 3 for 3.

WINNER: Diego Sanchez by submission 1:56 into Round 2.

Final Thoughts:
Fun show that helps prepare newer fans for the main event of TUF Finale. I'll hopefully have that reviewed and posted by Wednesday.

Also what do you guys want from these? Do you like the match background. Do you want me to score after rounds.

Please toss suggestions my way.

Doing scores sounds like a good idea. I tried doing that for boxing, until I got bored of a shitty heavyeweight fight and gave up. :P

UFC has an easy system. Round winner gets 10, loser gets 9.

Scrooge McSuck - November 7, 2005 08:17 PM (GMT)
Same thing in Boxing, unless there's a knockdown, or point taken away for violation of rules, like a low blow after a warning. I was just commenting on how boring the fight was. Boring with a capital Randy Orton.

Just nonstop circling? Heavyweight boxing has sucked for about a decade now.

Scrooge McSuck - November 7, 2005 08:22 PM (GMT)
Unless it's Mike Tyson. He fights more like a 150 pounder than a heavyweight. Pretty much every non-heavyeweight just goes out fighting, and doesn't worry about stamina or control.
