Title: Question For All

Mad Dog - November 1, 2005 02:12 PM (GMT)
Has it ever been this bad in the WWF?

We have guys getting hurt, guys quitting and angles just going every which way. It truely seems like we're watching the company implode right before our eyes.

I think WWE was in worse shape when WCW was beating them on a regular basis, but not by much. WWE seemed to be regaining some positive momentum earlier this year, but it all seemed to halt right after Summerslam.

Nothing can be worse than what WWF produced in 1995-96, and for most of 1997. That was easily the promotions all-time low in terms of attendance, buyrates, and quality.

That's not saying today doesn't suck. Raw is generally painful to watch, while Smackdown is barely good enough to bother taping. Without the B-Shows having ***+ gems now and then, my interest has faded greatly since the move back to the USA Network and Smackdown's move to Friday Night.

SamoaRowe - November 1, 2005 03:23 PM (GMT)
Well, last year Taboo Tuesday was the least ordered pay-per-view in the existence of the WWE. If this year's buyrate does an even worse buyrate, than I may change my answer to yes.

Scrooge McSuck - November 1, 2005 03:28 PM (GMT)
But this years Wrestlemania had one of the highest buyrates in a long time, so it balances out. :D

Haha, I guess so.

But WrestleMania 21 was also back when the company was actually doing a lot of things right for a change. I'd say they have done very little but screw everything up since August (and in Smackdown's case, since July).

Given that I've always been a more casual viewer until recently, this is the absolute worst I've seen on a consistent basis from the WWE. It boggles my mind to see how poorly a company can be run, especially when it should've learned from it's mistakes years and years ago. RAW is just fucking terrible right now.

Next time I come up to UNH, I'm bringing the "Best of 2000" tape, I think you'll enjoy it quite a bit.

It is, I'll have to let you guys borrow it.

It has:

Cactus Jack vs Triple H in a street fight (****+ match)
Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit vs Chris Jericho (***+ match)
Chris Jericho vs Triple H in a last man standing match (****)
The Rock vs Chris Benoit (****+)
The Dudleyz vs The Hardyz vs Edge and Christian in the first TLC match (****3/4)

Stupid fun note to add 1 to my count: 2000 is the only year since WWE started doing monthly PPV's where I ordered them all. Everything up to SummerSlam kicked ass, then the quality slowly (but not noticabely until Armageddon) took a dive down... then Rumble, NWO, and WM X-Seven kicked ass too.

Mad Dog - November 1, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
I haven't ordered a WWF PPV since No Mercy 2001.

Scrooge McSuck - November 1, 2005 08:51 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah, the show where Undertaker buried Booker T and someone thought Test going over Kane in a 13:00 match was a good idea. Blech, was that not either one of their finer moments. Thank God the crowd was jacked up for the show.

Mad Dog - November 2, 2005 01:50 AM (GMT)
I don't even remember why I ordered that show. I think it was one of those "hey there's a PPV and RVD might win the title" kind of things.

It's been worse, believe it or not. I was glad when Raw went to USA because I saw the product Raw was doing with Spike and thought to myself, "If things are going this well and thy're leaving Spike, things can only get better when they're with USA." ...And then Homecoming came.
