Title: Christian quits?
Description: According to WWE.com?!?
SamoaRowe - October 31, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
The front page of WWE.com has a photo of Christian, with a headline announcing that Christian has quit the WWE!

... To quote Darth Vader...
[b]NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!~~!!!![b]
dynamite kido - October 31, 2005 06:09 PM (GMT)
That really sucks.............I wonder what the deal is?

I'm still curious to see if this turns out to be a worked shoot or not. I could see it turning out that way just because when a talented performer quits WWE, it usually reflects poorly on WWE. However, there had been reports that Christian has been unhappy ever since he was drafted to Smackdown, so this could be interesting...
Scrooge McSuck - October 31, 2005 06:43 PM (GMT)
Christian worked the Smackdown taping (kinda early, eh?), so who knows how true that is.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 31, 2005 06:46 PM (GMT)
He probably wants to be a football player like Brock Lesnar.
Scrooge McSuck - October 31, 2005 06:50 PM (GMT)
Christian is canadian... he wants to be a hockey player.

WWE.com has learned that SmackDown Superstar Christian has quit World Wrestling Entertainment. Be sure to stay tuned to WWE.com as more information becomes available.
Bob Ryder at 1wrestling.com says the following:
Sources say his contract expired a few days ago and he opted not to renew. His SuperStars page has already been removed from WWE.com
Dave Meltzer at WrestlingObserver.com reports these additional details:
Jay Reso's final match in WWE was last night at the TV tapings in Los Angeles. While the WWE web site reported him quitting, which was accurate, what happened was a week ago in San Francisco, he was given a new contract, as his old one expired, and told to sign on the spot. He didn't sign. He did come back to work and do another job last night when he quit. |
Scrooge McSuck - October 31, 2005 06:56 PM (GMT)
At least they didn't Wendi Richter him. Remember when she refused to sign a new contract on the spot?
Real F'n Show - October 31, 2005 07:21 PM (GMT)
I still wouldn't doubt if this was some sort of work.
But it'll be fun seeing him in TNA. Maybe Jericho will follow...
TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 31, 2005 07:30 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind seeing a lot of their more established superstars jump ship. They'd get some fresh talent and actually have to work on decent gimmicks.
dynamite kido - October 31, 2005 07:34 PM (GMT)
I'd be all for Christian in TNA....
Mad Dog - October 31, 2005 07:38 PM (GMT)
Yes........ the WWF lets another potential draw leave the door.

And soon to be NWA champ. Man, this sucks. I hope it's a swerve.

I'll have something on the blog later, but I'm pretty gutted at the moment

DAVE..............keepin the world informed.
Mad Dog - October 31, 2005 08:57 PM (GMT)
WWF astounds me sometimes. The fact that they said sign this or else to him just shows how clueless they are.
There's a competitor that's creeping towards a 1.0 rating and is close to becoming financially stable. They should not be playing these kinds of games right now.
Scrooge McSuck - October 31, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)
Do you think he'll be able to use the name "Christian" in TNA? It sounds like the kind of name you can't copyright, since it's also a religious word, and is thus public domain I would think.

"Muslim"
whitemilesdavis - October 31, 2005 09:00 PM (GMT)
Christian is no big loss for WWE. They were barely using him. I honestly don't see how he could ever be more than a lower mid-card comedy act.
Mad Dog - October 31, 2005 09:00 PM (GMT)
Probably not. They didn't own the copyright to Justin Credible or the Dudleys but they strong armed those guys anyone. One of his nicknames like Captain Charisma could be viable though.

The guy was monster over during the first half of this year. Crowds were going apeshit for the guy before they completely jobbed him out and tossed him to Smackdown.
whitemilesdavis - October 31, 2005 09:02 PM (GMT)
I doubt it. WWE would probably claim"Intelectual property" on all things associated with his character.
EDIT: Woops. That was in relation to the "name" subject.
Mad Dog - October 31, 2005 09:04 PM (GMT)
His real name is Jay Reso. That's servicable with a nickname attached.
whitemilesdavis - October 31, 2005 09:05 PM (GMT)
He seems pretty creative with nicknames. It should be no problem.
Mad Dog - October 31, 2005 09:06 PM (GMT)
PWInsider says he lives in Florida.
If I were TNA I'd shoot a promo with the guy and splice it into the Primetime Special. Think of it. You could see Christian in TNA on Thursday and then his final WWF match the next night on Smackdown.
whitemilesdavis - October 31, 2005 09:11 PM (GMT)
AS much as I'm not huge on Christian, that'd be a major coup.

I hadn't stopped to think of that. That would be one of the coolest things to happen all year.
I'm waiting for a Christian shoot interview sometime in the near future.
Scrooge McSuck - October 31, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
Christian could be big in Japan... imagine all the Jeeps he has!
SamoaRowe - October 31, 2005 09:55 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I wonder if WWEshop.com will offer some good deals on Christian merchandise now.
Real F'n Show - October 31, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
They should steal another of DAVE's ideas and just call him by his real name, Jason Reso. Reso-lution, bitches.
Mad Dog - October 31, 2005 11:20 PM (GMT)
I thought "The Idol" might be a good nickname for him.
SamoaRowe - November 1, 2005 12:01 AM (GMT)
prof_plague - November 1, 2005 12:21 AM (GMT)
Seeing both WWEand TNA haven't been ontop of their game lately, may be loosing the Dudleys, Rhyno, and Christian (and possibly Jericho) to TNA, along with signing Samoa Joe, Chris Daniels, and AJ Styles to contracts might finally heat-up some competition.
...Given the right storyline.
Where's a new nWo when you need it!
Scrooge McSuck - November 1, 2005 12:35 AM (GMT)
Nowhere.... WWE somehow owns the rights to the nWo name, and will strike down upon thee with anger and furious vengeance on those who try and recreate something similar to.
Real F'n Show - November 1, 2005 11:51 PM (GMT)
Jericho and Christian would be great as an Outsiders-esque duo in TNA, you gotta admit. Either one is already better on the mic than everyone on the TNA roster...
SamoaRowe - November 1, 2005 11:54 PM (GMT)
Yeah, and Jericho and Christian would actually show up for shows sober and not get injured at every other show.
eStragand - November 2, 2005 12:02 AM (GMT)
"Christian" is an absolutely terrible ring name. Right up there with other crappy ring names, like "Triple H" and "Sal Sincere". He should be thankful he's free of it.
Real F'n Show - November 2, 2005 12:07 AM (GMT)
How about, "Your Icon" Jason Reso...
EDIT: Jericho owns the rights to his name, though, correct?
SamoaRowe - November 2, 2005 12:09 AM (GMT)
I'd go with "Jay" Reso over "Jason." That's just me though.
I agree that Christian was a bad ring-name and it shouldn't break his heart if he cannot use it after tonight.
