So I was listening to the radio today, and some dude was discussing the book that he wrote:
Mexican Masked Wrestler and the Monster Filmography. This dude actually watched as many Mexican Monster/Wrestler movies as he could find and wrote this book about them.
For those of you who don't know, Mexican film has a history of B Movies with wrestlers as the hero. The films include scenes with matches. Sometimes several. The dude seemed to enjoy them, though I don't know if he knows of the significance of the luchadore in Mexican culture.
But it did want me to pick up a few Mexican monster flicks.

Mil Mascaras must've been in some. According to J.R's commentary at Rumble '97, he was in a lot of movies and TV stuff down in Mexico.
And for a second, I thought you were going to talk about a movie featuring killer tacos and burritos. :(

The guy talked about one in which El Santo discussed with his manager how he couldn't beat his opponent because the guy knew Karate. They fought, El Santo unmasked him, and he turned out to be a werewolf. El Santo tried to fight him, and the werewolf turned into a bat and flew away.
I think he said it was "El Santo vs. the Vampire."

^--- example of producers, writers, and everyone else working with the movie being on mind-altering drugs at the same time to realize how unusual it is.
I wouldn't mind watching that though. Sounds funny, but not in a scary kind of way.

It sounds like something I'd expect from Mexico. The guy said they have a little something for everyone. There are Musical Mexican Monster/Wrestler Movies, ones with half naked women, etc.
Which makes sense to me. They want to entertain everyone, not just one audience.

These movies are Rob Zombie's wetdream. They used to show alot of "Samson vs..." movies around here in the mid 80's. I think it was either El Santo or Samson who was actually buried in his mask.
They cover similar material in Mexican comic books. Tiny pulp-ish books with all sorts of weird shit going on. "Kaliman : El Hombre Incredible" is one of the most famous. Naked chics, monsters, "inhaling foreign substances" and lots o' death.
