Title: Guys You Never Bought
Description: As Credible Threats

Mad Dog - October 24, 2005 03:22 PM (GMT)
I'm essentially starting this thread over one guy but I thought it could generate some decent discussion.

So I've seen thanks to some WWF DVDs and some tapes a good little bit of the AWA during the last week or two. It's beyond me how anyone ever took Baron Von Raschke seriously as a wrestler. The guy looks more like a cancer patient than he does a wrestler. I though he looked especially bad in there against tag teams like the Road Warriors. Just my 2 cents anyways.

Rasche got over completely on the power of his gimmick, which obviously wouldn't work now. He was also fading quickly by the time the Road Warriors came around. He was far more successful in the territory days.

As far as someone I didn't buy into...maybe Rufus R. "Freighttrain" Jones?

Interesting topic...

For WWF, no one will ever come close to Mabel as a serious threat. Hell, I barely saw Men on a Mission as a threat to the Tag Team Champions.

WCW... I'll keep Arquette out of this, because it was Russo's idea, and Arquette was actually against doing it. Hmm... I'll say Ed Leslie (insert gimmick here). Headlined Starrcade '94 with the "Red hot" Hogan (by that he brought a good amount of buys to PPV's he was on), but this show pretty much bombed compared to Bash at the Beach, which was only 5 months before.

Guys that immediately come to mind......

Zeus - Yeah, at 8 years old I like No Holds Barred...............but I didn't believe for a second that he was going to beat Hogan.

Mabel - Yeah I attended that Summerslam and no matter how cloudy I wanted my vision to be................I didn't buy for a second that he was going to beat Diesel.

Justin Credible..... he looks like he should be washing dishes at a local Waffle House not beating people up.

Not to mention that he doesn't even look like he'd be able to beat up the fatass hillbillies at the waffle house.

That's how I feel about a lot of the undercard guys in RoH. It's hard to believe in a 100 lb. nothing that probably couldn't even take me out.

whitemilesdavis - October 24, 2005 04:55 PM (GMT)
That's one of my main problems with ROH.

Zach Gowen. I mean, seriously, it's not even that he only has one leg, but the guy is skinny as a rail. I feel bad for any wrestler who has to sell for this guy.

Thanks for reminding me... (goes to put flowers on the proverbail grave of Matt Hardy's career)

SamoaRowe - October 24, 2005 06:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah, no shit. They even let SHANNON MOORE beat Gowen. That's right, the most notable Smackdown jobber since the roster split picked up multiple victories over Gowen, but not Matt Hardy. It was all a part of WWE punishing Hardy for overshadowing his brother. :P

Scrooge McSuck - October 24, 2005 06:32 PM (GMT)
Matt beat him up plenty of times between July-September 2003. He still shouldn't have jobbed to him, unless someone ran in, beat him up, then put Gowens crippled ass on top of Hardy.

Mad Dog - October 26, 2005 12:03 PM (GMT)
Greg Gagne. You watch other promotions at the same time and he has a jobber build at best. People who complain about Jarrett on top should be thankful it's not Gagne.

Scrooge McSuck - October 26, 2005 12:37 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but TNA tried pushing Erik Watts, who equally sucked, as a top heel, and when that failed, tried making him a face. I doubt it worked, considering his suicide attempt.

Mad Dog - October 26, 2005 12:38 PM (GMT)
He was actually pretty good character wise during his 2003 heel run with the company. They kept him out of the ring mostly too.

Scrooge McSuck - October 26, 2005 12:52 PM (GMT)
I still didn't buy him as a serious contender to anyone that wasn't already a JTTS... plus the storyline with the annoying bitch really, really sucked.

jamiegeist - October 26, 2005 02:39 PM (GMT)
Uhhh, Monty Brown?

Shawn Michaels. ...I'd kick him in the back, and run like hell.

Scrooge McSuck - October 30, 2005 11:47 PM (GMT)
KICK? I'd smash him in the back of the head with a crowbar, then do the Garvin Stomp, finishing off on his balls... then run.

Mad Dog - October 31, 2005 10:20 PM (GMT)
I'd whip out the spork I got at KFC earlier that day and give his head the sporking of it's life.
