Title: Someone please explain to me.......
dynamite kido - December 27, 2004 08:58 PM (GMT)
the fucking appeal of Austin Aries? Why does everyone have a hard on for him? Someone please take the time and explain to me why is the most beloved wrestler on the Indy circuit for no good reason?
In case you were wondering.....I fucking HATE the fact that ROH put the title on him, so now you know why I started this thread.

He reminds me slightly of CM Punk. He can work several different styles (he can Fly, work the mat, brawl) and he does everything really smoothly and crisply. I haven't seen his more talked about matches, but I've liked what I've seen thus far. As far as if he deserved the title, no, he didn't. But what's done is done, and frankly I'm excited to see what happnes next, and that's all that matters. IMO.

I like Aries because everything he does seems to have fire and crispness to it. He reminds me of a lesser AJ Styles, in the way that he bumps well and can wrestle many styles. His weak points are the same as AJs too, which is his selective selling. But I don't care, I've never seen a match he's in where I wasn't entertained.

I like him because he actually looks like a wrestler and wears wrestling gear. :)
Seriously though. Did he deserve the title? Probably not. But yes, he is very crisp and intense in the ring, and he works fairly tight without trying to work the indy version of "strong style", which is not something you see on the indies all that much.
As far as I'm concerned he's just a really good indy wrestler. He's not the best, he's not the worst.

I don't especially like him, but I don't hate him like you, DK. I'll wait and see where Gabe is going with this, storyline-wise, before I shit on the decision to put the belt on him.

I'm very annoyed over this. If they were going to change the title why not give it to CM Punk at the beginning of the month. That would've been a lot better for business and we wouldn't be stuck with a transitional champion right now.

I don't have a big problem with Aries, but I just don't see him as a champ

Give it a chance. People didn't like Xavier's reign, and that led to some good stuff. Originally some people didn't like Joe as champ, and look how THAT turned out. Give him a couple of months.

I agree totally. He has some good stuff lined up with Shelly, Joe rematch, another Ki match possibly, more Dragon stuff, probablly some Punk.... it could be good.

The only good thing that the Xavier reign lead to was Joe getting the title. I just think it's silly to follow up a long reign with a transitional champion. It seems to be undoing what they accomplished with Joe.

I think if Aries does indeed become a transitional champion, it could show that not everybody can hold the gold as long as Joe. It shows that Joe is strong. Not everyone can be a Samoa Joe.
Then again, maybe he won't end up a transitional champion.
