Title: WEBSITE POLL
Description: Help me make some decisions
Big F'N Swigg - October 22, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
Basically, we need something to keep casual readers coming back to our site. A gimmick that says "If I come back next week/month, I'll have something to read other than 4,000 Scrooge posts."
The Lower Midcarder of the Month would basically be something we all voted for, someone in the lower mid-card that impressed or amused us that month/week
Polls, yeah, you know polls. Match of the week/month, show of the week/month, etc
Weekly links to "hot" threads, we'd just link to a thread that's got some good discussion. Like Hall of Fame threads.
Weekly quotes from the forum would be good because people would be encouraged to post.
Contests, well, we could have caption contests, some kind of trivia, whatever. We'd have to find some kind of prize, but that wouldn't be horribly hard.
Ultimate Warrior word of the week... Well, that would require someone to read or listen to Warrior and his site. So that may be too much
You can choose 2!!
Scrooge McSuck - October 22, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
Weekly Links and Warrior Words!
I would've said quotes, but it'll usually be something I say that'll sicken and/or disturb people, and keep them from coming back.
Real F'n Show - October 22, 2005 03:44 AM (GMT)
Let's do them all. We rule.
Scrooge McSuck - October 22, 2005 03:46 AM (GMT)
Correction: we minus Scrooge rule. :P

Pleasing me is the solution. No, really.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 22, 2005 05:56 AM (GMT)
I really, really want to see the quote thing implemented. We could have quite a collection, maybe publish it. :P
eStragand - October 22, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
I want a Warrior quote of the Week.
I can help.
Stand atop your pedestal and look to that which is towering above you at a higher level than you can attain. For I, Hercules, seek not only to defeat you, but to vanquish you in ways that have been previously uncovered and not known to those who deal in such things.
But seriously, one idea I have would be a "weekly column". Stuff like "Every Wednesday is Old School Review Day". Or Thursday is "CD Review" day. The regulars around here would have to slow down a bit and submit pertinent topics on that day, only. Been trying to work this into my website for years, but I'm lazy.
Big F'N Swigg - October 23, 2005 02:22 AM (GMT)
I was actually thinking a "Puro For Beginners" column, a Wrestlecrap-esque column by Scrooge, a classic column, etc.
But I mean, we could have a "weekly Warrior promo by Stragand too/.

hmm...
I could see DK and/or Mad Dog writing the puro column, or even collaborating on it.
Scrooge is of course perfect for the wrestlecrap one...
eStragand or someone could probably write a good classic column (and shill his site along the way)
don't forget that sure-to-be hilarious Swiggy/LFV column.
maybe we could even get an interview with a wrestler or something (Alex Shelley or Jimmy Jacobs)? I know they both have Live Journals we could probably contact them through...

I'd be up for that. Especially because I know that MD got the New Japan stuff in the bag. I'm more of a NOAH guy myself.............

Links to hot threads is great, as sometimes I even get tired of clicking around and seeing that it hasnt been updated in a while. yes, I know, i could just look at the date and time, but.....shit.
And Quotes from posts is also an awesome idea.
I would've voted for Warrior Word of the Week, or Quote of the Week, if I had another vote.
jamiegeist - October 23, 2005 05:53 AM (GMT)
And another thing. Finding this fuckin thing.
Whenever I am not at my computer, and I want to check the DWB, I have a hell of a time relocating it. i'm not sure what could help this...but just saying.

Hmmm... I can only come across 2 reasons why I'm the designated (s)hitter for Wrestlecrapping...
1. My mental stability has been permanently damaged by watching WWF TV every week in 1995, and thus it would be perfect for me.
or
2. All the good positions are taken. :P
I could always write a bi-weekly column "Things that piss me off." Of course, it would basically be me regurgitating stuff George Carlin has said and written about. :D
Mad Dog - October 23, 2005 01:45 PM (GMT)
We need to get the Hall of Fame topics up and running again. That had the site kicking pretty good during the spring.
I could do a New Japan type column if you wanted me to.

As soon as I find a free hosting site, I'm gonna buy the DaWrestlingSite.com url. If anything, I'll just connect it to here before the site goes up
Big F'N Swigg - October 24, 2005 02:06 AM (GMT)
So quotes and links, then?

If you just want to buy the URL...you don't need hosting just yet...it will run you a whopping 4.95-8.95 per year. Yahoo, web.com or 1and1.com offer cheap DNS registration.
Buy dawrestlingboard.com and set it up so it points to this URL. You can buy a URL without having a place to host a site...or even a site. There's an old Broncos message baord I used to haunt. They bought www.thebroncos.net and it simply points people to their EZ Board forum.
Been in the industry since 96 and trust me on this one....."Free" hosting services generally suck. They're unreliable, filled with ads or a big freicking ball o' confusion. Unless you personally know somebody who will let you host a site on their box for free, you won't find a "free" hosting site. If you're serious about running a site, it's worth the 10 or 20 bucks a month. Plus, they provide you with traffic reports so you can see what type of people are coming to your site and which pages are hooking them. Those 3 sites I mentioned above are the best bet for hosting.
Big F'N Swigg - October 25, 2005 09:23 PM (GMT)
Well, I don't have $10-20 bucks a month to shell out on hosting. I can get the URL for $9 for 3 years, though. I'm looking around to see if there's any hosting sites for free or for cheap. I found one I thought I'd like, but you have to register the url through them from $30 a year.
Big F'N Swigg - October 25, 2005 09:57 PM (GMT)
Oooh, The Warrior quotes have made it a three way tie!
eStragand - October 26, 2005 09:26 PM (GMT)
Sure, then I imagine you're looking at services like doteasy.com. When searching for your "free" hosting, be sure to note the bandwidth (traffic) limit.
If you're serious, I'd recommend at least 1GB of bandwidth per month. On alot of the "free" services, they offer about 250MB of bandwidth. Sounds like alot, but not really. When you reach your limit, the site is unavailable until the new month rolls around. Obviously, that would kill any potential new audience. Usually you can up your bandwidth, mid-month, but only after paying additional funds.
Big F'N Swigg - October 27, 2005 03:05 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the info.
If we could actually get advertising, I'd be all up for paying for some hosting. But I'd only take in enough to pay for the hosting.
