Go Houston! Go White Sox! For once, I want either team to win!

If "Go Joe" is what I think you're referring to (and some feller uses it in his signature)..you're terribly incorrect. It was never "GO", it was the even more stupid "YO". Although some little kids would utter "Way to go, Joe" and jump in some of the older commercials. Unless I'm way off-base and the "Go Joe" refers to Samoa Joe or something else I don't get.
I'm going with the Astros...although I haven't necessarily rooted for any one Series team since... umm, 1996 maybe? The Astros have been picking up momentum since mid-June and I don't think any team wants to play them, now. The sad part (for me at least) is that the Pirates were ahead of the Astros in mid-June. Oh well, at least the third baseman of the 1979 We Are Family team is managing in the Series.
Fun Fact from Your Man Who Went to Coperstown: Astros are the first team named after a Jetsons character to ever appear in a World Series.

I was trying to refer to both G.I. Joe and Shoeless Joe with the "Go Joe", so I don't know how it should've came out.
Thanks for the fun fact. :P

Scott Podsednik suddenly has the arm strength of mighty Thor.

Maybe he paid a visit to the Canseco house. :D

And to little fanfare on this board, the White Sox are the champions of baseball.

Y'know, for a 4-0 series sweep, it was actually pretty exciting. The Astros blew their wad on Tuesday night when Lance Berkman struck out in the bottom of the 8th. I'm glad it's over, though. Even if Roberto Clemente rose from the grave and Chuck McElroy returned to the mound, I couldn't stomach another minute of baseball called by Tim McCarver. I follow baseball all year round...and it culminates in a week of Tim McCarver. You know the difference between Tim McCarver and a pinball machine? With a pinball machine, you hit the flippers and score points...and Tim McCarver is a fucking douchebag.
Give the White Sox credit, they accomplished this without all the "drama", whining and bellyaching of Boston.
Look at the past few champs and you've gotta' wonder who's been booking this crap: White Sox, Marlins, Angels, Diamondbacks?

This was one of the worst World Series ever, but this is what wildcards do. A team that fucked up and then recovered during the season can get rewarded over a team that earned their way. I really liked the old school pennant system better.
Scrooge McSuck - October 31, 2005 07:30 PM (GMT)
I don't. It adds more interest to the final weeks. This season, at least 8 teams had a chance to make the Playoffs, but didn't in the long run. With Division Winners only, you could probably have the playoffs set in stone 3 months ahead of time.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 31, 2005 07:33 PM (GMT)
I know the drama is good, but I get so tired of watching wild card teams win big games. The whole point of baseball is that the season is long and it's supposed to count for a lot, and to reward teams that dog it until the last couple months is a fucking joke.
Scrooge McSuck - October 31, 2005 07:48 PM (GMT)
... Did you just say a team DOGGED IT UNTIL THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS? I'm sorry your precious Cardinals lost, but the Astros were the better team for those 6 games, and were promptly destroyed by the White Sox in the World Series.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 31, 2005 08:03 PM (GMT)
But that's exactly my point. They shouldn't get the opportunity to be in that situation in the first place, because their regular season was mediocre. Then they get into the world series and get annihilated by a worthy team that won their division. Whether or not the Cardinals would have gotten destroyed in the series is irrelevant.
Hell, the same thing goes for the Red Sox, the Marlins....you get my drift.
Scrooge McSuck - October 31, 2005 08:26 PM (GMT)
That's why it's called the Wild Card. They are the underdog team that gets to play the Spoiler for other teams more deserving. Be thankful there's no more than 1 Wild Card team, then I'll agree it's ridiculous to give so many teams a shot at the Playoffs when having a Very Good season at best.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 31, 2005 08:31 PM (GMT)
I understand the theory of a wild card, I'm just old fashioned and don't like it in baseball.
And yeah, I agree. More than one wild card would suck ass.
