Spike gives TNA its first prime time special

by Dave Meltzer

Dave@wrestlingobserver.com

Due to Spike TV preempting Impact on 11/5 for the live Ultimate Fighter special, the show had been moved to Thursday, 11/3 several weeks back. At first it was scheduled as a regular episode of Impact.

However, with ratings well above projections on Saturday nights, Spike has given TNA its first prime time special, a two-hour taped show from 9-11 p.m. on 11/3. No details are available but it will be more like a Clash of Champions special than a regular episode of Impact. The show will be taped on either 10/25 or 10/26, more likely the latter.

TNA is finally building steem. Hopefully we don't get a Midget Match refereed by some D-List actor.

Careful, you're gonna offend estragend.

This could be great for TNA. Let's hope this gets bigger than expected ratings. That time slot would be perfect for Impact.

Scrooge McSuck - October 19, 2005 01:10 PM (GMT)
Let the speculation begin on what the main event is...

This may sound cheap, but a 10-Man Tag Team Elimination could be cool. AMW, Jarrett, 2 Members of Team Canada vs. Team 3-D, Kevin Nash, A.J. Styles, Lance Hoyt.

Abyss and Monte Brown could be choices too, and maybe even Rhino or Raven. The possibilities are endless!

I actually like the idea a lot. You could get all f your stars on one show, and hide the weakness of your big names (like Nash, etc.)

I'm just laughing at the fact that earlier this year the entire IWC had written TNA off as Dead in the Water by March. This is great news. I'll watch, that's for sure.

Scrooge McSuck - October 19, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
Well, with reports that Panda Energy was going to back out of funding TNA, it's not like it was blind comments.

The Last Free Voice - October 19, 2005 04:56 PM (GMT)
True, but the reports were nothing but rumors. And it was going on before that, too. "Oh, Jarrett is champ! Their doomed!" et al.

SamoaRowe - October 19, 2005 05:00 PM (GMT)
Things were looking very bleak for TNA back in March. Honestly, I thought they were finished.

I'm glad I was wrong. Very very glad.

Naw, you don't need a D-list actor to ref a midget match. Just get Shark Boy out there in zebra stripes and I'm content :)

Scrooge McSuck - October 19, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
A Zebra Shark?

jamiegeist - October 20, 2005 12:02 AM (GMT)
You know, i was writing up my idea for a good card on that show, and then i realized i didn't know when Bound for Glory was.

I checked....its in 4 days. TNA gets an F from me for making me realize when the hell the PPV is. Cause I had no idea, and I've been watching Impact very closely since it moved to Spike.

They should have Jarrett sneak by Nash at BFG, and somehow get challenged by Samoa Joe for that special card. Joe should just fuckin kill his ass, and then the next PPV can be their big shot. Joe v Styles, Title for Title.

Scrooge McSuck - October 20, 2005 12:25 AM (GMT)
Joe ain't getting the title anytime soon, except in fantasy booking diaries across the world. Jarrett is keeping that baby until February (at least).

Big F'N Swigg - October 20, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
Say that again and I'll be forced to abuse my powers

EDIT: THE YANKEES SUCK. BOSTON IS BY FAR THE SUPERIOR TEAM AND THE SUPERIOR CITY. I, SCROOGE MCSUCK, LOVE CM PUNK. HE IS BY AND LARGE THE GREATEST WRESTLER TO HAVE EVER WALKED THE FACE OF THE EARTH. HE IS EVEN COOLER THAN KANE, WHO IS A WASHED UP HAS BEEN.

This edit brought to you by Swiggy's abuse of power. Hey, Scrooge asked for it.

SamoaRowe - October 21, 2005 01:52 PM (GMT)
I would laugh if Joe wins the belt by the end of the year. I doubt it at this point in time, but it would just be great.

And apparently many TNA fans would not mind either, since he is champion in "fantasy booking diaries across the world."

Now that Bound for Glory is in the books, I can attempt some kind of supercard for the Primetime special.

Main Event: Jarrett, Storm, Harris, Roode, Young vs. Rhino, Brother Ray, Devon, Killings, BG James.

Damn that team looks way too WWE once I typed it.

Ultimate X Rematch for #1 Contender to X title: Petey Williams v Chris Sabin v Matt Bentley

Please, fix the fucking X, for the love of god. I think the thing falling apart could be a break for them in a way, as they have an excuse to toss Ultimate X on TV so soon after the show.

Samoa Joe v Abyss. This is probably too soon, and shouldn't end clean at this point in time. But they teased it in the gauntlet, so do it.

Kip James v Konnan. Not that I care, but shit, you may as well proceed with this shit.

X Division Title Match: AJ Styles v Sonjay Dutt. Why not, Sonjay won the opener, so thats reason enough to do it, and a great stage to elevate Sonjay, who seems really over and confident.

5 matches might do it, cause hopefully they can all get 10+ with Ultimate X and the Main Event probably nearing 20. It'd be nice to get the Naturals on, but they feel a bit lost with AMW-3D being the primary focus of the tag division.

I would replace Rhino and stick him in a "Title Match" where he gets to beat up on a midcarder. The only problem is there isn't many guys I like in that role. Styles needs to get away from Jarrett for a while, Hoyt is overrated, and Raven is... I don't know what Raven is, but they haven't used him much lately.

Big F'N Swigg - October 25, 2005 12:40 AM (GMT)
I think it would be a really good idea for them to have an Ultimate X match for the Title on the Special. That way they don't have to deal with that gay X anymore. They should NEVER, EEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVEEEEERRR do that match without a title involved
