Title: Friday The 13th: From Crystal Lake to Manhattan
Description: Ultimate Edition DVD Collection

Scrooge McSuck - December 26, 2004 10:41 PM (GMT)
In an effort to get through another horrible Sunday, a.k.a the most boring day of the week, I will be watching the Friday the 13th movies in a marathon like-form. Although the DVD set was a bit disappointing, it's still entertaining and has some cool extra features.

I've already watched the first. Since I'll obviously be mentioning spoilers, be aware. I remember being shocked finding out who the original killer was (Mrs. Voorhees played by Betsy Palmer) and nearly scared me shitless.

I loved the death of Kevin Bacon's character (Jack?) where he get's impaled through the neck with what looks like an arrow or something. The un-edited version just shows a longer version which shows how fake it looks, so I think keeping it out was a good idea.

The character of Marcy getting the axe in the face is always great, as she deserved it for being an annoying bitch, but not as annoying as Ned, King of the Idiots.

Now finishing with Part II. Better movie I think although I'll always say the 1st is the best for nostalgia purposes. Some cool death scenes like Jason (who was dressed like the Elephant Man for some reason) driving a spear through Sandra & Jeff while they were making whoopy.

And who can forget the awesome death of Mark the Crippled Bastard, who took a cleaver to the face and proceeded to fall down a few flights of stairs backwards? Too bad Ted (whats with the -ed's?) didn't die, as he just seemed too annoying to deserve living.

Also sad to see them kill off Alice from Part I, but she DID smoke grass and played strip Monopoly, so I guess thats good enough reason for her demise, besides killing Jasons mommy in the end of the 1st movie.

What the hell happend to Paul though? He was alive at the end it seemed, but disappeared for the ambulance ride, and was never mentioned again in Part III when they do the recap and television broadcast.

Scrooge McSuck - December 26, 2004 10:55 PM (GMT)
Quick Mention: Whoever doesn't like the main title theme for Friday the 13th Part III (the techno-ish type beat) can go to hell!

Scrooge McSuck - December 26, 2004 11:18 PM (GMT)
Shelly is the new bastard of Friday The 13th, annoying me and being one of the dumbest characters I've seen in quite sometime. Somehow, the acting is WORSE than in Part II, which is really hard to accomplish.

Also worth mentioning is the horrible 3D footage, as it doesn't work, but you can tell where and when it happens. Lame considering none of it means a thing in most of the scenes, except for a death or two.

dynamite kido - December 26, 2004 11:43 PM (GMT)
Well, let me first off say that the lack of Horror interest here sucks. Secondly CBF, the second Friday owns the whole series. It's the best one....easily.

Also, in the third one CBF, there is a lot more 3D scenes in the third film that you might not have noticed as the DVD version obviously aren't in 3D. I've seen it in 3D and there is a lot more than you think......

Scrooge McSuck - December 26, 2004 11:53 PM (GMT)
Damn Paramount... they should've made this DVD with the 3-D intact. Would've been cool to see the spear gun shot coming at me. That and the death with the woman in the beginning (the sewing needle) are the only deaths I noticed. I think the biker who has the pitchfork through her neck as the scene in 3-D, but we don't get to see the actual death.

Wait... HOW COULD I FORGET THE EYE POPPING DEATH?!

Scrooge McSuck - December 27, 2004 01:39 AM (GMT)
Chili gets a red hot poker through the gut in another (I think) 3-D scene. I can't help but love the guy getting killed by Jason slicing him in half from the groin. That HAD to hurt.

Too bad Shelly gets the axe (or throat slitting) off camera. :(It's about time for the punk to have his eyes popped out!

Real F'n Show - December 27, 2004 01:40 AM (GMT)
The harpoon through the eye is the shit.

I also dug the chick in Jason X getting her face frozen and smashed.

Scrooge McSuck - December 27, 2004 01:44 AM (GMT)
Jason X has no place in this discussion for being absolutely horrible... except for Jason killing someone with a fucking back breaker... and freezing the bitches face in that... whatever and smashing it against a wall.

If not for Freddy vs. Jason being awesome, I think Jason X would've been a huge black eye for a "final installment" in the series.

Well, I thought X was entertaining, but in no way scary. More of a "goddamn this is funny" type of movie.

The part where the black guy gets stabbed, and is all like "It'll take more than that to kill this big dog"

*Another stab*

"That'll do it."

And just the all-around cheesiness made all of these movies.

Scrooge McSuck - December 27, 2004 01:53 AM (GMT)
You're right, that was pretty damn funny. It was more comical than scary, which was the problem in my opinion. Just too damn cheesy.

Time for the black dude to make the worst rescue ever, as he dies in about 3 seconds making contact with Jason!

Scrooge McSuck - December 27, 2004 02:23 AM (GMT)
Crispin Glover failing to get any from someone dubbed "BJ Betty" is too hilarious. Time to see some fat hitchhiking hippy eat a banana and get stabbed in the back of the neck. Damn she grasps the banana hard.

Scrooge McSuck - December 27, 2004 04:10 PM (GMT)
Since I had to get up early I had to stop after Part IV. Crispin Glovers funky dance is just too funny to describe. Also nice to see Corey F'n Feldman kill Jason in the end.

Part V time and Joey the Annoying Fat Retard gets chopped up a minute into his character developement.

Also we get the funniest line ever "Crap my ass", which is also just too damn funny.

Scrooge McSuck - December 27, 2004 04:50 PM (GMT)
Is it me, or does the black guy from Part V look a lot like Rick James? Fun note is he was also in Return of the Living Dead, as well as the star of the 6th Friday the 13th, Thom Mathews.

Scrooge McSuck - December 27, 2004 08:12 PM (GMT)
Finished watching Part VI, and probably on the top of my list for favorites. Gotta love the soundtrack, which is basically all Alice Cooper songs.

He's Back (The Man Behind The Mas)
Teenage Frankenstein
Hard Rock Summer

dynamite kido - December 27, 2004 08:51 PM (GMT)
Well, the man behind the mask song truely does own us all. Also, Jason X is a fucking travesty to all horror films. One of the biggest pieces of shit EVER. Hell, I met and talked to Kane Hodder (aka the best Jason ever ala pts 7,8, Jason Goes to Hell, Jason X) and he himself said that Jason X was a horrible movie.

Scrooge McSuck - December 27, 2004 09:23 PM (GMT)
Speaking of Kane Hodder, he was awesome in Part VII (almost finished watching). Too bad almost EVERY death scene was clipped up because they were too "violent". He definitely has the best presence for the Jason character and has the body language down to a t.

Peter North - January 9, 2005 04:37 AM (GMT)
I wanna pick this up, and probably will, since the price tag isn't too bad, and I still have mad gift cards. I've heard the box set take a beating from people, so what would you say are the main pros and cons of the set? Should I hold out hope for another set? Is this worth it?

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2005 04:43 AM (GMT)
It's worth it. The people who bitch are the ones who must have everything humanly possible with it. The only negatives I think is that the first 5 movies are redone in mono, while the other 3 are in stereo. Also, in the special features, NO ONE talks about Part V (thank God) except Cory Feldman, who was in it for 2 minutes.

What's your favorite horror movie MD? I could recommend a shitload that could be worth your while to check out though if your interested......

Mad Dog - January 9, 2005 07:07 AM (GMT)
I like the original Nightmare on Elm Street a lot. I did a lot of the Twlight Zone type things, big fan of Hitchcock as well. I like vampire movies a lot too.

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2005 06:58 PM (GMT)
As long as you don't like Nightmare on Elm Street II.... blech, who the hell wrote that queer piece of shit? And before anyone jumps on me about the word "queer", the entire movie has homosexual overtones, and the lead actor shows his gayness in many of the scenes, for example the shower scene where the teacher is in bondage and getting whipped with towels... naked, while the shithead watches with delight.

Mad Dog - January 9, 2005 07:01 PM (GMT)
I only like the first and third movies from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies.

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2005 07:12 PM (GMT)
How ironic... those are the only ones I can stomach too. Wait, that's a coincidence. The New Nightmare (or whatever) was decent, but made zero sense with the whole "everything is like the movie, but it's not suppose to be" stuff.

dynamite kido - January 9, 2005 10:49 PM (GMT)
For my money New Nightmare was the best besides the first. I've heard many people state that the first and third are their favorites.......I did like the fantasy aspect of the third.......but something about New Nightmare that struck a chord with me. I guess maybe after Freddy's Dead I was expecting another abomination of a film.

By the way MD.......for a cool "vampire" flick....check out Near Dark with Bill Paxson. That is if you haven't seen it.

Also, George A. Romero's Martin is probably about the most creative Vamp flick ever. It's actually one that has a brain and it's probably the most unique one I've seen.

Mad Dog - January 9, 2005 11:05 PM (GMT)
I think my favorite vampire flick is the silent Nosfaratu flick from the 20s. The guy who plays the vampire is really really creepy.

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2005 11:10 PM (GMT)
I haven't watched the DVD in a while (mainly because of the horrible music added in by some crappy group), but wasn't he suppose to be the plague? If not... he would probably give you it just by looking at you.

Damn that guy creeped me out. One of the cariest fucking Vampires ever.

Mad Dog - January 9, 2005 11:12 PM (GMT)
I get irritated with that movie because there's a version with a really awesome soundtrack but they never use it in favor of the horrible version for some reason.

But yeah, he still really gives me the creeps. There's just something about that guy that really freaks me out.

As far as the plague I think that's what the town declared it to be not knowing that it was a vampire going around biting people.

Scrooge McSuck - January 9, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)
Anyone seen the movie based on Nosferatu that was made recently? (I can't remember the name but I'm sure it came out in 2001-2002) So cheesy, trying to make it out like the vampire was real. I'd watch it again, but I hate movies like that.

"This is a movie, but what happens during the movie actually occured!"

Mad Dog - January 9, 2005 11:16 PM (GMT)
My friend was telling me about that last year. It sounded kind of interesting but I figured it'd ultimately suck.

dynamite kido - January 11, 2005 10:13 PM (GMT)
Any of you guys ever see Martin ? I think you might get into a "deeper" vamp movie. Plus, it's Romero....so the gore is still intact.

Mad Dog - January 12, 2005 08:06 PM (GMT)
I watched the Lost Boys last night. It's a fun vampire kind of movie. Though I think my friend and I are the only two people that like that movie.

Scrooge McSuck - January 12, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
Wrong... I actually like the movie a lot, and bought the soundtrack a few months ago.

<---wuss

Mad Dog - January 12, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
Actually I have to admit I'm not a big fan of gore in horror movies. I'm more into the ones that just utterly fuck with your head. That's why I liked the original Nightmare on Elm Street so much. Just the idea of a guy who kills you in your dreams is something that messes with your head.

dynamite kido - January 12, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
Two things...

1)The Lost Boys is the best "Hollywood" horror film IMO of all time. That is....with a huge budget and some stars. Well, at least after the 70's and early 80's.

2)MD, I understand that you don't like gore in your horror movies and all, but Martin uses it intelligently and there is WAY more in the plot to do with motivation and realization than just a splatter fest. It's incredibly intelligent and it's filmed almost perfectly.......Romero found a way to give a absolutly horrific story (not the script, it's a terrible situation in the film) some beauty.

Mad Dog - January 22, 2005 01:06 AM (GMT)
I'd like to just throw my utter disdain for House of 1000 Corpses in this thread. Zombie hyped it up like it was sheer brillance and all he gave us was a feature lengthed cliche. I've never been so disappointed by a movie.

Scrooge McSuck - January 22, 2005 01:12 AM (GMT)
Dumbass... I knew that movie was going to suck the second I first heard about it.

Mad Dog - January 22, 2005 01:14 AM (GMT)
I stupidly thought since he was a big horror fan that he'd have the skills to pull off a good horror movie not just vomit out a mix of every 70s horror movie he ever saw.

Scrooge McSuck - January 22, 2005 01:17 AM (GMT)
I can't think of many "new generation" horror movies I liked. I don't count Scream since it seemed like more of a spoof than anything, and I hated them too.

<--- hates everything.

WHY YOU LITTLE...!

dynamite kido - January 22, 2005 02:20 AM (GMT)
Honestly, if you haven't found any "new generation" horror out there.....you're not looking hard enough. There is tons of great horror being made and the Asian stuff nowadays is getting really good too and not just the brutal stuff either. Now don't get me wrong, there's plenty of bad in the way and there is a lot out there.....look for reviews and find some good horror sources(in that I mean you usually agree with their reviews) and you'll be running to the video store in no time!
