Title: TNA's Roster

After taking a peak at their roster online, I realized that they have 48 listed workers. Some of these we've seen on iMPACT on Spike, some of which we haven't. For a company with one hour of TV time a week, isn't that a bit much? And if you were in charge of TNA, who would you cut loose?

It IS kind of strange to have that big of a roster, but I like it. Thats why RAW and Smackdown are so boring nowadays...we've seen every possible combination and matchup, it seems. TNA will stay fresh if they continue with the squash matches, which are great for establishing a product and some angles, and if they keep a large roster.

But I'd cut BG James, Kip Whatever, and thats about it right now.

Some of the guys listed I haven't seen in months. Exactly how many times has Zach Gowan wrestled in TNA since his WWE run? 3 times?

I would normally agree, but it's taking them weeks just to introduce people on to TV. This wouldn't usually be a big deal, but they're not running house shows, so these people aren't getting paid unless they are on TV. So AMW & Jarrett, and maybe Team Canada have been getting paid because of the Dudley/AMW feud, but guys like Sharkboy, etc aren't getting as much time or cash.

That's the thing though, most of their contracted workers are free to work elsewher when not working for TNA. Plus, the occasional TV exposure probably gets them more indy bookings for more money each time. Personally, I like the extended roster. I'd love to see a few new guys each week.

I think the larger roster is a good thing. It keeps guys fresher if you only see them once or twice a month. The problem with the WWF is you see the same faces every week and you get sick of them. TNA could keep their guys new and interesting for a long time with a good Impact rotation.

I can't agree more...

Every week on Raw you're guaranteed to see the same 12 faces. Ditto Smackdown. TNA can keep most matches fresh and using very little oversaturation of people... except AMW/Naturals and AMW/Canadians, because both combinations have been done to death, despite only having 1 weekly show for the last 3 years (including the PPV's from 2002-2004).

At this point TNA needs everything they can get. They need to keep all of these guys so that they can at least do a revolving door with their jobbers. Plus, they are in dire need of keeping the tag division going and these guys could be paired up on teams and whatnot. I think the one major problem with impact is it's hour long running time. If somehow someway they could get Spike to give them a 90 minutes show.................they'd be fucking set.

Scrooge McSuck - October 17, 2005 04:54 PM (GMT)
It would definitely give them a chance to work longer matches. The average match on Impact seems to go 5 minutes, but the number is hurt by the squash of the week (ranging from 50-90 seconds).

It reminds me of World Class's old kayfabe "Open Door Policy", which was a way for them to bring in travelling, open contract type of guys. World Class had their core, the Von Erichs, Iceman, Chris Adams, Jimmy Garvin, etc. Then they'd have other outside talent come through-- Andre, Jake Roberts, Bruiser Brody, etc. Really kept it fresh and made the weekly shows interesting, despite their relatively small core roster.

The thing is, though, is that if you need jobbers, just give ANYONE in the NWA a call. There are plenty of workers out there with something to prove that would love to get a TV match to up their value. That's how TNA should be getting jobbers. Though I could see that being stationary in Orlando could hurt that possibility.

I still think it's a bit large, with a little bit of dead weight. They could trim about 8 people off of the roster, and noone would know.

I really enjoy the TNA roster, for the most part. I wouldn't mind to see them cut Apolo or 3 Live Kru (Killings can stay). I don't think Team Canada really needs A-1, they could do just fine with Bobby Roode, Eric Young, and Petey Williams.
