From the ROH board...

SHOWCASE MATCHES

1. Pelle Primeau def. Smash Bradley with a sunset flip.

2. Bobby Dempsey def. Eric Adamson with the Spicolli driver.

3. Patrick Dempsey def. Shane Hagadorn with some sort of lung blower variation.

MAIN SHOW MATCHES

1. B.J. Whitmer def. Davey Andrews with the wrist clutch exploder. Lacey continued telling Whitmer to deliver the beating, and Andrews took several exploders before Whitmer pinned him.

2. "Double C" Claudio Castagnoli def. Sterling Keenan with a pyramid bomb. Claudio hit a nice death valley driver. Good comedy spots as well and to everyone's suprise, Claudio was way over. *sarcasm*

3. Jay Lethal def. Jimmy Jacobs with a dragon suplex right on top of his head. Good back and fourth match with Lacey doing her thing on the outside.

Nigel McGuinness comes out bashing Buffalo sports teams. Talks about Joe in the roll of Shrek 3. Nigel says he is the special attraction and something else about Joe.

4. Nigel McGuinness def. Samoa Joe to retain the ROH pure title. Joe lost all 3 rope breaks in less than a min. Joe missed an oley kick, and was almost counted out, but got back in the ring at 19. Joe reversed the ace crusher into a choke. Nigel was able to push up on the ropes in the choke and pin Joe for the win.

5. The Embassy of Jimmy Rave, Alex Shelley, & Abyss def. Generation Next of Austin Aries, Roderick Strong, & Jack Evans in an absolutey INSANE no dq match. Aparently there were some batting cages somewhere, Jack Evans hit a 630 off them onto Abyss through a table. Shelley hit a variation of the shellshock on Roderick through two tables side by side. The finish came when there was a ladder ontop of Rave, Aries missed the 450 and hit the ladder. Nana and Rave covered Aries ontop of the ladder and got the pinfall. INSANE I TELL YOU.

After the six-man and intermission was announced, there was some sort of scuffle and I'm gonna try to get this right. Some kid hit Aries during the match, and Aries gave the kid a forearm. After the match, the kid was talking **** to a trainee, Bobby Dempsey. The kid shoved Dempsey, Roderick Strong followed by getting Joe. The kid was telling the trainee how it was fake and all this. It followed by going outside, where Joe single-leg dropped the kid on the ground. Security also jumped in and was beating on this kid. Then Gabe & Jimmy Jacobs come in and save the kid. Gabe grabs the kid by the neck and takes him off. Everyone was out there at this point. Sounds like some good fun for intermission.

INTERMISSION

6. Tony Mamaluke & Sal Rinauro def. The Rottweilers of Homicide & Ricky Reyes to retain the ROH tag team titles. Finish came when Rinauro hit a springboard cross body off the rop rope. Supreme said it was a dissapointing finish, and the crowd seemed to be anticipating more, but it was a good match.

7. Low-Ki def. Colt Cabana. Homicide was talking smack to Colt before the match and Low-Ki jumped him from behind. Really good match. The finish came after a brutal ghetto stomp.

8. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson def. Steve Corino via submission to retain the ROH world heavyweight title. Acouple of close near falls toward the end. Corino was able to escape the cattle mutilation acouple of times. Danielson won with a chicken wing crossface. Pretty good match.

WOW, this sounds like one of the worst ROH's in sometime?

smkelly13 - October 16, 2005 05:05 AM (GMT)
That's ROH for you. Have a couple of good shows, then go down the drain for a while. This card looks like a one match wonder. Joe is becoming more and more like Taz after he lost the ECW World title, loses to everyone.

Big F'N Swigg - October 16, 2005 05:06 AM (GMT)
eh... 50-50. Sounds like fun live, but not something I'd buy on DVD

smkelly13 - October 16, 2005 05:08 AM (GMT)
I'll just try to download the No DQ match online.

The Last Free Voice - October 16, 2005 03:53 PM (GMT)
I think matches 4-8 look good. I've enjoyed Nigel and Joes work, and Ki vs. Cabana was something I was looking foreward to. The No DQ match sounds off the charts, and Danielson vs. Corino sounds like a good old school title match.

Big F'N Swigg - October 16, 2005 07:55 PM (GMT)
Somewhat off the topic, I know Aries uses the 450, but what is his other finisher?

The Last Free Voice - October 17, 2005 02:08 AM (GMT)
Brainbuster beat Joe, so that's one.He also uses a Rings of Saturn type move which is wittily named the "Rings of Aries".

He hasn't used the Rings of Aries in awhile though, has he?

Brainbuster usually sets up the 450, but has sometimes won him matches as well.

smkelly13 - October 17, 2005 02:30 AM (GMT)
He beat Joe with the 450, which followed the BRAINBUSTAH~!

The Last Free Voice - October 17, 2005 02:54 AM (GMT)
He might not use it often. I just remember him winning with it WAAAAY back at 6/12/04, which doesn't seem so long ago to me, cuz I was there live.

dynamite kido - October 17, 2005 04:51 PM (GMT)
They're really shooting themselves in the foot with Joe though. They put him up against Kobashi one week and the next he's losing to fucking Nigel. I like Nigel and all, but Joe really should be above him at this point. Not to mention that I fucking HATE the main two matches of this show. I don't want to sound like a dick, but I think Cabana/Low-Ki would be a mess. I just don't see those two matching up whatsoever.

Also, shouldn't we mention this. WHY THE FUCK IS CORINO GETTING A TITLE SHOT? I mean, I know he has tons of dick riders and fanboys..........but is that enough of a reason to throw him in the main event for an ROH title shot?

Yes.

You've got to be shitting me here?

The Last Free Voice - October 17, 2005 10:28 PM (GMT)
Actually, Corino was storyline owed at title shot for some reason or another. Originally it was gonna be HIM against Joe at teh infamous Joe Punk II show, but he had to pull out. So he "cashed in" his title shot.

smkelly13 - October 17, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
I'm not personally saying I want to see him in a title match, but in the indies, if you're loved, you get title shots. I personally think Corino is talented on the mic, but lacks wrestling skill.

Big F'N Swigg - October 18, 2005 12:59 AM (GMT)
If you think about it, he IS the AWA champion. So that could theoretically hold some weight. He could have a clause that says he has to be so high on the card or something similar.

Ok, I'm a Corino mark, and I've still got nothing.

Dude, this isn't aimed at you................but fuck that shit.

I'm sick of how the ROH fanboys hate on perfectly good workers, yet it's acceptable when Corino comes and goes as he pleases and it's ok................because they all fucking love his terrible ass. UGH.

Scrooge McSuck - October 18, 2005 04:25 AM (GMT)
Whats the infamous Punk/Joe II show? And isn't "Infamous" a bad thing?

I was wondering the same thing. That match was freaking spectacular. The undercard wasn't the best I've seen ROH do, but it was still a fun show.

Scrooge McSuck - October 18, 2005 02:49 PM (GMT)
What match was spectacular? The resthold match of the Year? See C.M. Punk work in 5000 versions of headlocks to stall for time and switch between working on the arm and neck for 30 minutes with zero substance to any of it!

There, I made my "piss the entire board off" comment of the week.

SamoaRowe - October 18, 2005 03:11 PM (GMT)
Oh boy. Just wait until the Last Free Voice sees this.

In terms of indies, Corino is a draw, like him or not. When any indy brings Corino in, they aren't bringing him in as a random worker, but rather to attract his fanbase. Therefore, it wouldn't make sense to have him curtain jerking, when that's only gonna piss off his fans, whom you were hoping to attract. You can argue that he should never be booked, but the reason he is in the main event is fairly obvious.

If that is the same C Man who posted at TSM, he has no credibility with me.

Scrooge McSuck - October 18, 2005 03:25 PM (GMT)
I don't remember anyone by that name on TSM, and screw you. I trust the fate of all indy reviews in his gorilla hands.

Okay, probably not the same guy.

You damn right... oh yeah, and out own ST Strickler was making fun of the match too. Get him! (he posts as Sam)

 For some reason, that made me laugh.

Eh, you guys are allowed to not like the match, but dammit, I still love it.

whitemilesdavis - October 18, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
Just to chime in on that match really quick....I thought the second match was very good, and not as you described it at all, Scrooge. If you were describing the first one, I could see where you are coming from, but the second was really enjoyable in my view. Do you like any hour long matches?

Scrooge McSuck - October 18, 2005 03:52 PM (GMT)
Steamboat/Flair from Clash VI was great, but can it count even though it only clocks in at 50-51 minutes and was 2-of-3 falls? :) Other than that and several Rumble matches, I haven't seen many hour long matches.

Yeah, actually I have the World Title Classic match on my computer and I've never quite been able to sit through it. This is partly because I have a short attention span when it comes to watching things online, but the other part was that it was too slow. I didn't have that problem watching Joe/Punk II one bit.

smkelly13 - October 18, 2005 06:06 PM (GMT)
Dynamite Kido, don't take me wrong dude. I'm not a mark for Corino at all.

The Last Free Voice - October 18, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
I meant Famous. Sorry. I've got a headcold from hell and it hurts to blink, so thinking is generally out of the question. Personally, I love all three Joe Punk matches, for different reasons.I think the third is the best though, just because it pays everything off without having a ton of resting and stalling for time, which it could have had due to it being no time limit.

whitemilesdavis - October 18, 2005 08:04 PM (GMT)
I've only seen the first two. I like the first one fine, but I can understand the criticism of it.

The Last Free Voice - October 18, 2005 08:12 PM (GMT)
I love the first one because I was there live and it was such a special feeling. The second one I just find totally awesome, but a little tedious at points. The third one is pure awesomeness.

whitemilesdavis - October 18, 2005 08:18 PM (GMT)
Were you ever visible on the tape?

The Last Free Voice - October 18, 2005 08:25 PM (GMT)
Not really. I was on the very top bleacher opposite camera, all the way to the left. You'd catch me if they zoomed out after a match or something. I SHOULD be all over Redemption, as I got hit in the head with the fucking roaming camera durning the Ki/Leathal brawl. Nice cut over my eye.

SamoaRowe - October 18, 2005 09:27 PM (GMT)
Plague and I have a good chance at being visible on the Survival of the Fittest dvd. I'm pretty sure you can spot me during a "Fuck you, Nana" chant and when Samoa Joe nearly slips onto the crowd.

No problem with him Main Eventing.........just getting a title shot.
