Title: WCW Guys You Miss

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 11:02 PM (GMT)
Lash Leroux: He was always a favorite of mine. I was really bummed when TNA only kept him for one show. Criminally underrated performer.

Devon Storm: Always enjoyed him even when he was just a Saturday Night jobber.

Barry Darsow: Who didn't love his evil golfer gimmick?

Norman Smiley: Him throwing Pepe into a wood chipper will always be one of my favorite wrestling memories.

SamoaRowe - October 13, 2005 11:19 PM (GMT)
Jason Jett/EZ Money. I know we discussed him back when I posted a match he had with Kid Kash, but I haven't seen the guy since, except for a handful of TNA appearances.

I agree with Lash LeRoux, though I heard he had a drug problem. Last I knew, his cartoon "Lashing Out" can still be seen in PWI.

The Artist. I liked his entrance B)

I also miss the WCW versions of Billy Kidman, Shane Douglas, Bill DeMott, and Lance Storm.

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 11:21 PM (GMT)
I was never an Iukea fan. He was kind of ok at various points but I never understood how he got the Television Title. He also seemed a little chunky for the Cruiserweights before becoming the Artist.

I thought the Gorgeous George III guy, he went by another name, was pretty solid.

Scrooge McSuck - October 13, 2005 11:25 PM (GMT)
Vampiro - He's not the best worker, but he had a good luck to him that stands out from most others. Outside of his (Very) brief runs in TNA and MLW, I haven't seen much of him since 2000.

Sting - Do I need to explain why? Sure, he's seriously past his prime, but he's still one of my all time favorites.

Uh... well, I don't miss too many. Smiley was entertaining at times (Screamin' Norman ruled), but I never cared too much for him.

SamoaRowe - October 13, 2005 11:29 PM (GMT)
I forgot to mention Sting. I actually ordered every TNA ppv he was on. Sad, eh?

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 11:31 PM (GMT)
I miss how horrible Hardwork Bobby Walker was.

Like you're the only one? (points to 'self) Hell, I ordered Sting/Styles v. Luger/Jarrett show just to see Luger and Sting. I could(n't) care less about Styles/Jarrett. That's been done to death in 2003. Luger hadn't been seen since early 2001. :)

eStragand - October 13, 2005 11:35 PM (GMT)
I miss Crowbar. He was picked up for a few house shows by WWF over the summer of 2001. I thought it criminal that he wasn't added to the full-time roster.

Ms. Hancock. Yeah, I'd still boink plain ol' Stacy Keibler... but holy cats that was a HOT look.

Blitzkrieg was kinda' neat. There are various stories of what happened to him.

Bam Bam Bigelow was usually entertaining and he did what was asked of him. He put over Shawn Stasiak for shit's sake.

Rick Fuller. Just so somebody like Larry Zbysko or Mike Tenay could talk about how big and underrated this worthless slug was.

Don't laugh...but I miss Tony Schiavone, too. I haven't been part of "The Greatest Night in the History of Our Sport" for a few years now.

Sting. Top to bottom, I always thought he was one of the most complete wrestlers around.

Vampiro. Too bad he was a flake and seemed to have attitude problems.

[Raises hand and ducks deviled egging]

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 11:37 PM (GMT)
Bam Bam will always be fondly remembered for the fact that his career essentially ended because he ran into a forest fire to save a couple of kids.

Scrooge McSuck - October 13, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
It wasn't a forest fire. I could've sworn it was a burning house. I had the same debate on another board. The guy who said it was a FF credited a site that had it wrong, and then it turned into a long and boring debate that sucked.

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 11:42 PM (GMT)
Either way he's still a total badass for doing it.

eStragand - October 13, 2005 11:42 PM (GMT)
Yeah..I think Bam Bam saved the day in 2000, which is why he wasn't on TV much that year. He came back in late 2000 and remained until WCW closed, errr.."was acquired".

Scrooge McSuck - October 13, 2005 11:43 PM (GMT)
Bigelow is a badass, but he's an awesome guy for risking his life. :) And yeah, him having to put over Shawn freakin' Stasiak sucked.

SamoaRowe - October 13, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
Bam Bam and Perry Saturn are both bad-asses for the heroic things they attempted. I miss them both.

Scrooge McSuck - October 13, 2005 11:52 PM (GMT)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but was Saturn shot while attempting to break up a rape attempt?

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 11:54 PM (GMT)
Shot or stabbed, I don't recall.

prof_plague - October 14, 2005 12:02 AM (GMT)
Bobby Heenan although he was released a year for WWF bought out WCW.

Scrooge McSuck - October 14, 2005 12:03 AM (GMT)
Bobby Heenan is more of a WWF talent than WCW in my eyes. His WCW Days fucking sucked.

Yeah, I suppose I can't really count him as a WCW worker. Honestly, I didn't watch much WCW towards the end.

Scrooge McSuck - October 14, 2005 12:13 AM (GMT)
Lucky you. :P It wasn't as bad as 1999, but it was directionless.

I originally thought he was stabbed, but from what I read online, he was shot three times 25 caliber handgun, and had a steel plate and three screws where his C-5, C-6 and C-7 vertabre are.

S.T. Strickler - October 14, 2005 12:46 AM (GMT)
I liked Sting, Vader...... Can't really remember any other standout performers, other than Goldberg. *Ducks trash*

The first version of the story I heard (and the one I believe to be true) was that Saturn was out with his wife/girlfriend and while driving, he noticed a man attacking a woman. He did indeed try to break it up and was shot in the neck for his troubles. Since then, I guess he's managed to wrestle here and there, but it looks as if his active career is pretty much over (he had to back out of Hardcore Homecoming).

jamiegeist - October 14, 2005 02:05 AM (GMT)
I really liked Mike Sanders near the end. I actually liked a ton of stuff they were doing near the end. Kwee-wee, Jason Jett, Air Paris, AJ. I was diggin that cruiserweight tag division that they started up.

I hated and always will hate Scott Steiner, which killed those shows. Also hate and never miss DDP and Booker T, who I know avoid at all costs. I miss WCW Jarrett, which we kind of got in to on another post.

S.T. Strickler - October 14, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
Not sure if I understood the Kwee-wee character. It just seemed that everytime someone saw him, they'd stand in awe and be like "....Kwee-Wee."

SamoaRowe - October 14, 2005 03:40 AM (GMT)
The Kwee Wee character was interesting because he seemed to switch between being a heel and a face on a weekly basis. I'd call him a tweener, but that would be giving the geniuses at WCW too much credit.

Mike Sanders and the Natural Born Thrillers were quite awesome. I became a mark for them in short order. It was a novelty seeing them get WWE contracts and show up on tv, but watching them all fail in WWE was frustrating. Sean O'Haire and Mark Jindrak made such an effective team in WCW, and O'Haire did well when teamed with Chuck Palumbo as well. Stasiak found a cocky heel niche in WCW, and became a running joke of a jobber in WWE. Sanders was never brought in, Jindrak and O'Haire came out of OVW looking less experienced than before, and I haven't even seen or heard from Reno since.

eStragand - October 14, 2005 05:34 AM (GMT)
Yeah...."Above Average" Mike Sanders is another guy I miss. He was great on the mic, and had some funny "your momma" joke duels with Ernest Miller.

Miller could be funny at times, but I don't think he understood the difference between a heel and a face. He'd come out and say something funny and book a match that the fans wanted...then he'd say "all you dumb hillbillies shut up". He'd consistently shoot himself in the foot with that junk.

I liked Norman Smiley's character, but he wasn't used well. I thought that the "accidental hardcore champ" was actually a funny gimmick. He didn't want to compete in the hardcore style, but kept winning and retaining the belt, usually accidentally. I know alot of people hated his sidekick Ralphus, but they made me laugh. Ralphus was a "mystery partner", came out in a mascot costume...and got his head caught in the ropes. It was universally despised, but that cracked me up.

MENG left before the buyout, but he was used well in his WCW days. "Goldberg. You must die... so I may live".

prof_plague - October 14, 2005 06:10 PM (GMT)
I liked Shane Helms when he was "Sugar" Shane Helms. Now the WWE isn't doing much with him besides being a jobber.

Evan Karagas never seemed to get a break. He was hired by WCW, not used, became part of 3-Count, got hired by the WWE, and was released after not being used for 9 months.

Kronik - Bryan Clarke and Brian Adams

Mark Jindrak & Sean O'Haire

SamoaRowe - October 14, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)
Kronik's brief stint in WWE back in 2001 has assured that I will never miss them :P

In fairness, he did suck really bad.

I miss the Tank Abbott/3-Count angle. That used to crack me up everytime when he'd scream at them to dance.

jamiegeist - October 15, 2005 02:13 AM (GMT)
My god, someone actually liked/misses Kronik. That is re-goddam-diculous.

And Karagious was just HORRIBLE but for some reason came off as entertaining. I don't have a fuckin clue why. But I liked the guy.

eStragand - October 15, 2005 04:06 AM (GMT)
Who here misses DJ Ran?! Make some noise.....

Scrooge McSuck - October 15, 2005 04:46 AM (GMT)
Be thanfkul no one misses the Harris Boys. Jesus, how did those lumps of crap remain employed for the better part 12 years?

SamoaRowe - October 15, 2005 05:13 AM (GMT)
The last time I saw Karagias, he was stinking up the ring in XPW. In other words, he was one of the more talented workers in that company.

Mad Dog - October 15, 2005 02:20 PM (GMT)
Another favorite Norman Smiley moment was when he fell into the Demon's casket and came out as Screamin Demon Smiley.

They have friends in high places. Like Jarrett

Scrooge McSuck - October 15, 2005 04:04 PM (GMT)
How did they remain with WWE from 1995-98? ... Oh wait, McMahon has a thing for hosses who know how to perform 2 wrestling moves. My bad.

Mad Dog - October 15, 2005 04:18 PM (GMT)
Actually Russo's the one that's kept them employed.

D.A.V.E. - October 15, 2005 10:32 PM (GMT)
Glacier.

It's one thing to love the thing when you're 13 years old - its another to watch it these days and realise how far ahead of its time it was. The entrance was GOLD. Ray Lloyd was a decent worker and i bet if the WWE had him today - he'd be retolled to a more ufc-ish moveset
