Title: NFL Discussion
Description: I've stopped caring about the weeks

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 13, 2005 12:00 AM (GMT)
Let's get some discussion up in hizzle.

Scrooge McSuck - October 13, 2005 12:03 AM (GMT)
Vinny and the Jets owned the Buccaneers. :)

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 13, 2005 12:06 AM (GMT)
Yeah, they're nothing without the Caddie.

That being said, that was an impressive win. It's going to be hard for the Jets to make it anywhere this year, but that's a good sign.

Scrooge McSuck - October 13, 2005 12:23 AM (GMT)
Bold Prediction of the week: Giants will beat the Cowboys 30-17.

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 03:07 AM (GMT)
I look forward to the fact that the Browns can probably jump to 3-2 due to how awful Baltimore is this year.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 13, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I did not see that one coming.

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 03:20 AM (GMT)
I kind of thought the Ravens were going to be bad. The defense is getting older and isn't as good as everyone says. They have no QB, an aging back and a better back they barely use, then an old as dirt receiver and a bunch of others that wouldn't even make it on the field for another team.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 13, 2005 03:24 AM (GMT)
When you put it that way....still, their defense has been a huge disappointment.

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 03:26 AM (GMT)
It also doesn't help that the offense can't keep them off the field for any length of time.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 13, 2005 03:28 AM (GMT)
True that.

Scrooge McSuck - October 13, 2005 09:12 AM (GMT)
Mad Dog is a true football fan. Just hoping the Browns will have a winning record is good enough for him. :)

COME ON JETS! YOU NEED TO WIN THIS WEEK! WIN! WINE !I WIN!NE

Mad Dog - October 13, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
I actually think Cleveland might have 7 wins in them after looking at their schedule.

The next 4 games look like this:

at Baltimore
Detroit
at Houston
Tennessee

Those are all winnable games and they could easily come out of that block of games 5-3. Then they have Minnesota and Baltimore on the schedule again. Plus Cincy again who they typically beat at least once a year.

dynamite kido - October 17, 2005 04:58 PM (GMT)
Tommy Maddox is the antichrist.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 17, 2005 09:28 PM (GMT)
Is it just me, or are NFL coaches getting gradually stupider? For instance, why the hell would you play Tommy Maddox over Charlie Batch? Batch has a pulse, at least.

Batch was supposedly getting the start all week until Maddox has miraculous healing abilities. Don't worry, if Ben doesn't play this weekend....................Batch will.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 17, 2005 09:40 PM (GMT)
I like the Jags, so I was practically dancing when they said Maddox would start....and you knew it would come down to him throwing an interception.

But by the same token, you're right. Cowher's too smart to start Maddox again.

S.T. Strickler - October 17, 2005 10:04 PM (GMT)
I'm going to the 49ers/Redskins game on the 23rd.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 18, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
The Colts are getting whipped, man.

They're sticking them for the C.R.E.A.M.

eStragand - October 27, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
There are those little touches that signal the changing of the season. The leaves falling...the days getting shorter...the frost on the pumpkin... and the Annual Bronco Collapse. It's arrived! "We've got too much talent to be in this situation".

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 27, 2005 06:07 PM (GMT)
Ah, good old Jake Plummer.

eStragand - October 27, 2005 06:21 PM (GMT)
I haven't seen Jake as the problem at all. This year or the last two. He takes every snap, then fucks cheerleaders and gives people the bird. It's still the defense who routinely give up those 15-28 yard passes too easily.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 31, 2005 06:37 AM (GMT)
Let me be the first person to throw myself bodily on the Giants bandwagon.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 7, 2005 04:44 AM (GMT)
Hey, it turns out Michael Vick can throw. I never would've guessed thanks to every douchebag commentator who says the Falcons can't win until he learns to pass.

Well, guess what? Not only can he pass, but they also win when he just runs a lot. That's funny. The experts told me that wasn't possible. I guess reality must be wrong.

Fuck, man.

Well, if they said that he won't win in the playoffs until he learns to pass....................they'd be right.

I'd agree with that. I'm talking about the regular season too, which boggles my mind.

Bye Weeks can be harmful to bored Denver fans:

I guess Wilbon decided people making legit criticism of Michael Vick makes them a racist.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 8, 2005 02:21 AM (GMT)
I hate how often the race card gets played with stuff like that. There is no denying that Vick does not play like a smart QB. Can he? Yes. But he clearly doesn't. I don't have a problem with people criticizing him until they say that the Falcons can't win with him (they do) or that he can't throw (which he can). I know he needs a ton of improvement, but you can't tell me saying that would make me a racist. Ridiculous.

Mad Dog - November 8, 2005 02:25 AM (GMT)
When you're a QB are you just now climbed into the 70s for passer rating you have a serious problem. Vick has a decent arm but no accuracy and awful decision making. He's been in the league for 5 years now and he's still making rookie mistakes. Tim Couch averaged a better passer rating in his career and he can't even get a second chance in the league.

And the Falcons winning with Vick this season is a myth mostly. The team's winning because Warrick Dunn is having an insanely good season and averaging 5.1 YPC. I think he's more vital to the team right now. Vick's having an awful year passing wise.

I agree with your first paragraph, but not your second. The Falcons do win because of Dunn and the defense, but Vick opens up a lot of options. You have to plan for him to take off running at any time, and he can burn you when he's passing on the run. The reality of it is that they win when he's around, and they lose when he isn't. I'd love to see him sit back in the pocket and pass more, but I'm content with winning over watching him improve his stats.

eStragand - November 8, 2005 06:37 AM (GMT)
QB passer rating isn't necessarily the best way to grade a QB as good or bad. Brian Griese's 5 years in Denver produced pretty good passer ratings...but he was a Shitty Quarterback. People would look at his stats and say 'golly, why would you wanna' get rid of him'....those folks obviously never saw his poor decision making, short throws and lack of arm strength.

With Vick it's like a college offense. The QB isn't your standard drop back and pass type of player. It opens up so many options for your offense if the QB is mobile. Falcons "consultant" Dr. Alex Gibbs (that's no nickname..the guy has a doctorate) would tell you the exact same thing.

I have to say, I'm sincerely psyched about the Bengals-Colts game, mostly because I both want and think the Bengals can win it.

jamiegeist - November 17, 2005 12:33 AM (GMT)
I'm incredibly psyched as well. Till I browse my cable guide, and see that I'm getting Broncos/Jets for my regional game instead. Thats fuckin rediculous. The NFL has to do something about this shit.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 17, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
I'm thinking of starting a "Get Choate the NFL Network" fund.

jamiegeist - November 17, 2005 04:47 AM (GMT)
I do have NFL network since my move in October. I can't live without it. It has replaced ESPNEWS as my "nothing is on" channel, and works so much better.

For real Choate, not sure what your situation is as far as home/rent/own where you live and all that, but I worked for a short period of time for Dish Network. Their middle package HAS NFL Network, and is most likely cheaper than your local cable provider. You want more info, just holla at me. Free installation right now, free DVR, tons of good stuff to start out.

You're getting the Bronco game.....and the problem with that is..??!!

dynamite kido - November 21, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)
Good bye and good riddance to you Tommy Maddox. Oh, wait.............just forget I said that until next year.

eStragand - November 21, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
Irrevelant Fact of Universal Insignificance:
I worked as an usher at the game where Tommy Maddox made his NFL debut.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - November 21, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
Alright....once again, the hell with critics who say Vick can't throw the ball. What he has to stop doing is greasing his hands with Crisco before every game.
