Description: Steiner-Punk-Yokozuna-Bossman-Christian

This is going to be one of a bunch of polls I'll be doing to pick a DWB Top Heel! I have a weird set-up for this, so just go along with what I have for now. It all will makes sense towards the end. In case you have a tie, you can select two answers per poll.
Scrooge McSuck - October 7, 2005 12:13 AM (GMT)
Worst. Poll. Ever. I refuse to vote for any of these people as a top heel.
prof_plague - October 7, 2005 12:16 AM (GMT)
I'm start bottom of the ladder for now. The polls will get better in the next round.
Scrooge McSuck - October 7, 2005 12:19 AM (GMT)
I went with Bossman, because he had mild success as a top heel in 1988-89 for the WWF, and his 1999 run against Big Show rocked your socks off. Everyone else can go to hell... except Yokozuna. He's dead, so he's probably in the great forklift in the sky.
Big F'N Swigg - October 7, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
I went with Bossman. I would have went with Yoko, but as I said before, dragging Big Show's dad's casket through the graveyard was TOO DAMN GOOD.
SamoaRowe - October 7, 2005 02:24 AM (GMT)
I voted for Christian and CM Punk because they entertain me.
prof_plague - October 7, 2005 06:21 AM (GMT)
I voted for CM Punk, and not just because he's one of my favorite wrestlers right now. In fact, he's one of my favorite because of this.
Although I wanted to say Christian, he's too well liked and humorous for me to boo him.
CM Punk, although current and hasn't been as long as some of the other wresters currently working, his heel character in interesting and innovative. A man took sXe and made it look bad...without being emo. Then that would piss me off, and not just an entertained angry.
Note: I'm glad no-one is able to see me type that as I've been wearing my CM Punk shirt today - in fact, it was pointed out in one of classes today.

That's bigger bullshit than Shawn Michaels saying he wasn't involved in the Screwjob.
prof_plague - October 7, 2005 09:05 AM (GMT)
Yes - he is one of my favorites right now. But he's one of my favorites because I like his character and his gimmick - he can really get a crowd going and cuts great promos. Whether is was badmouthing the face-former-drug-user Raven, insulting his tag partner Colt Cabana, they've been good promos. He can get RoH fans to chant "Shut the fuck up" like little 10 year old marks (, except I would like to think that 10 year old marks whouldn't chant "Shut the fuck up).
Generally speaking, I've always liked heels better than faces. Even when I first started watching a decade ago, I've liked DiBiase - and that was as a manager. So when I got to see his stuff from the 80s into the 90s, it was like watching wrestling gold because he was such a good heel.
whitemilesdavis - October 7, 2005 12:44 PM (GMT)
Big Papa Pump - because he had about one great heel year in WCW.
Scrooge McSuck - October 7, 2005 07:59 PM (GMT)
I can't wait to see through Plagues bias and not list any other Indy bastard in a "Best Heels Ever" list.

Do you have any recommendations for indy wrestlers to be added?
Scrooge McSuck - October 7, 2005 08:56 PM (GMT)
Not really, because I don't follow it that much. In one city, someone may be a face, and in another city the next night, play the heel. Most Indy workers are too spotty like that.

That why I couldn't think of too many. The ones that came to my mind were mostly face, ie Samoa Joe, Colt Cabana, James Gibson.
I could add Homocide, Chris Daniels, Low Ki, and any others.
The reason why Punk is on the list was that he was on the original PWI list.

Pfft... still shouldn't be anywhere near top heel ever. I also find it interesting how you bunched him up with a selection of guys with no chance of winning.

Kind of like how you were bunched up with a bunch of guys who stood no chance of winning in the DWB Best Poster tournament, right?
Back off, Punk is a good heel. As a matter of fact, I'll say he's a great heel. And I'm not some goofy Punk mark either. I honestly think he's earned his stripes and learned how to piss of a crowd the same way that The Dudleys did in ECW.

The first RoH stuff I saw was the first Death Before Dishonor, which was during the Punk/Raven feud. Being the Raven fan I am, I wanted Raven to win over some indy guy I didn't know. Some of the promo stuff I saw from Punk on that DVD made me think to myself, 'Who the hell does he think he is? ...And trying to call-out Raven like that; yeah, right.' and wanted Raven to beat him. And then later on I thought to myself, 'Wait. That guy pissed me off, and wanted him to lose.' He got me. Punk got me. And then I rewatched the DVD and noticed how creative his promos were and how his character got to the crowd, and realized he was a good heel. I like him now because I like his in-ring style and his ability to cut creative and imaginative promos, it's almost like he's a story-teller when he gives a promo.
Scrooge McSuck - October 8, 2005 02:02 AM (GMT)
I didn't create that poll and you know it, Swigg. :P I still don't think Punk should be bunched in with legendary heels. It's not even close. If you are going to tell me Punk is a better heel than (for example) Harley Race or Ric Flair, I'd have to give you a good tongue lashing.
prof_plague - October 8, 2005 02:05 AM (GMT)
I actually thought these polls where the most part were going to be close. Besides, whoever gets the most votes in this poll, basically, advances to a final poll at the end. In all actuality, I should've seen Race getting the most votes for this one, but he might not in the next poll when we put the winners together from other polls.
At this going rate, I looks like it'd be the equivalent of Race/Capt. Lou Albano/Bossman in the next one. Although I might not set-up the polls that way either. B)
dynamite kido - October 8, 2005 04:05 AM (GMT)
Here's the thing about Punk being a heel though that actually gives Scrooge the right point here IMO. Punk is a very good heel. Yet, he hasn't sold one PPV buy or drawn any sort of a decent indy crowd because of him being a heel. So in short............he's a good heel on the indy level, nothing less, nothing more.
SamoaRowe - October 8, 2005 04:05 AM (GMT)
Punk was a part of getting me to buy TNA ppvs back in their weekly format :(

...........and I wouldn't even consider him to be a "good" heel in TNA.
Big F'N Swigg - October 8, 2005 07:14 PM (GMT)
That's like HHH & HBK saying he can't work because his five minute match wasn't what they thought it should be. You could argue that Steiner wasn't a good heel, he was just a careless asshole who would've been censored in any other situation. We're not comparing the situations they've been in, just whether or not they're a good heel, and who's the best. I actually voted for Bossman. I'm just saying that Punk is a good heel. Is he a Yokozuna or a Bossman? That depends. But he is a good heel nonetheless.

It's not like that at all. I could say that I'm the best heel of all time, but none of you have ever seen me do it. The situations that they've been in are the most important when you talk about the effectiveness of a heel or face. If someone can work.........it shows when they are in the ring, but heel/face dynamic is DEPENDENT on the reaction of crowds and how badly people want to see them get their ass kicked. I said that Punk was a good heel in ROH, but that doesn't mean that he will ever be a good heel elsewhere. I would say though that Punk/Race's heelwork would have worked anywhere on the planet though. So that would be the major difference.
prof_plague - October 9, 2005 03:32 AM (GMT)
I think it's funny that out of all the heels were debating, we're dabting between Punk and Race, two wrestlers who are probably best friends in real life. I wouldn't doubt if Race taught Punk some of his stuff, and Punk kind of turned it into his own in RoH.
