Title: Ross on the outs?

QUOTE
-There have been rumors within WWE the past three weeks leading up to the USA Network debut that Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn have been considering changing the Raw announce team again, and that this time Jim Ross might be on the outs. It's been talked about for years that there are powers in WWE that are more into the "look" of an announcer during the rare instances they are on camera than how they sound calling a match. Ross also has various enemies he's developed over the years in WWE who may be working to oust him now that he's not around the office as much as he used to be. Nearly two years ago Ross left his post as V.P. of Talent Relations and handed the reins over to John Laurenaitis. He now lives back home in Oklahoma and only flies in for Raw events. While Ross was in favor of reducing his work load, he has always spoken about how he wanted to spent the final years of his career dedicating himself to announcing. The fact that Ross was on the first USA show is an indication they may have decided against that change, but sources say a final decision has not been made.

While I don't put much stock in the story itself, it makes for an interesting discussion. If the powers that be were actually concerned with the "look" over the "announcing" that would hardly be a valid argument for someone standing up for JR to hold his position. I for one, would be incredibly pleased if JR were no longer part of the announce team. I don't think Coach and Lawler could handle it neccessarily because of their equal heelish roles. JR to me is a horrible cartoon character, that can't call a match, can't keep names straight, does a piss-poor job of getting angles over by just yelling like an idiot. So yeah, he doesn't have the "look" they want. But he sure as shit doesn't have the "announcing" either.

Jim Ross has been a shell of his former 'self since 2000, but getting rid of him takes out the best broadcaster on Raw. Lawler is a retarded pervert and Coach flat out sucks, and has sucked for the last 6 years he's been employed by WWE.

Bring back Jim Cornette and put him on Raw with someone with a brain. Is Ted Dibiase available? :)

Edit: Maybe Tony Schiavone is available... I'm serious. He's still better than Lawler/Coach, even if he was a corporate shilling jerkoff.

dynamite kido - October 6, 2005 01:29 AM (GMT)
I have heard (for what it's worth) a lot recently that they are looking to replace JR with another announcer that apparently they haven't hired yet.

It doesn't mean that JR is getting fired or let go though, he's supposedly suppost to be working more for WWE.com or something.

$500 says they buy... I mean hire another Todd Grisham/Michael Cole clown that knows dick about wrestling and will just make an ass out of himself every 2 minutes.

Probably. I'm not the biggest mark for the guy or anything, but I have no clue (besides the fact that he's NOT homegrown) why they haven't even entertained the idea of using Joey Styles.

Scrooge McSuck - October 6, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
Joey Styles isn't a mindless WWE zombie that speaks his mind whenever possible.

Because Styles is only good in small doses. Having to listen to him for 2 hours every week would make you hate him and his quirks as an announcer.

jamiegeist - October 6, 2005 01:38 PM (GMT)
Exactly like Ross actually.

Mad Dog - October 6, 2005 01:47 PM (GMT)
Not really. The problem with Ross is that he hasn't given a shit for a solid 5 years now. If you pop in an NWA/WCW tape you'll notice within 10 seconds of how awful he's become.

They offered him a job a couple of years ago, but the guarantee was not as good as he was already making at another job, so he didn't take it.

Scrooge McSuck - October 6, 2005 03:33 PM (GMT)
IIRC, they only offered him a spot on the "B-Shows". He wasas right to turn it down, no matter what money he was offered. Styles should replace Michael Cole in 1/10th of a second on Smackdown, not sit next to some idiot on Heat/Velocity arguing over jobbers and midcarders that'll never be pushed.

Oh, there's no denying that..........it's just that he actually knows who the wrestlers are and could actually be coherent. Even if it's only for a short time period....

prof_plague - October 6, 2005 09:14 PM (GMT)
I thought the point of bringing in Coach was to phase-out Lawler?

TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 6, 2005 09:33 PM (GMT)
I want John Madden to cover wrestling. It would fit him like a glove.

D.A.V.E. - October 6, 2005 09:47 PM (GMT)
Actually, I think they need to rethink their entire approach to finding announcers. Case in point: Don West. As much as I hate the Tenay/West team - their pretty irreplaceable, and West has come on so much in threee years. I think the WWE should similarily try and find someone outside the business.

Oh and give Josh Matthews more to do.

Mad Dog - October 6, 2005 10:58 PM (GMT)
Jim Ross confirmed the rumor in his usual babbling way on the Ross Report today.

Ahw. The Ross Report is always a toss-up between reality and storyline, but i don't see the point of making this up. Don't forget, Jim Ross has been fired, something like, three times already.

Mad Dog - October 6, 2005 11:03 PM (GMT)
The more I think about this the more it bothers me. I just know they're going to stick someone in there even worse than him.

WWE is considering removing Jim Ross from the RAW announce team. Interestingly enough, they are considering replacing him with Mike Goldberg of The Ultimate Fighting Championship.

At this point, if Ross is replaced, WWE would likely make him the head announcer for WWE.com programs.

Goldberg was offered a large sum of cash.  'Goldberg has told personal at UFC that he will be accepting the offer.'

Take this for what it's worth.

So WWE is stealing a UFC announcer? Gee, they really are considering this to be a "war."

Mad Dog - October 6, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
I don't think Goldberg would fit in at all for them. He lacks emotion and I doubt his ability to shill. He only fits with UFC because it's a real sport.

Kellar has the story. Here's the thing - if people in the WWE, and we'll asume it's Kevin Dunn and Johnny Ace - believe Ross isn't photogenic - do they think Goldberg is? Because he's not.

Maybe they should go all the way and get Stephen Quadros

Quadross and Bas Rutten - THERE'S your Raw Announce team

Mad Dog - October 6, 2005 11:31 PM (GMT)
Bas Rutten is a stuttering marble mouthed ass when he's an announcer. His accent would never go over on WWF tv.

Yeah, but it would make for great TV though.......

So it's been confirmed that Mike Goldberg will take over for Ross.

jamiegeist - October 7, 2005 03:22 AM (GMT)
Not sure of your source, but I'd hardly call it confirmed at this point.

I sure hope it's not confirmed. I hate to say it, but I've grown to take a liking to Ross in some strange ways.

whitemilesdavis - October 7, 2005 12:48 PM (GMT)
I hate JR, but not nearly as bad as Lawler. While don't they get Rogan too, while they are at it?

Because he may be the worst announcer out of everyone that we've spoke of......

whitemilesdavis - October 7, 2005 01:19 PM (GMT)
Nah, I like him a lot better than Lawler. He probably doesn't know wrestling, and would therefore suck in that setting, but at what he does, I think he's fine.

Keep in mind one major thing. Rogan LOVES MMA. As far as I know, he DOESN'T love wrestling. I doubt he would want to do it anyway. Not to mention that I probably WOULD rather listen to Lawler than him anyway.

Can we assume it's gonna go down through Ross being "fired" by Vince because of what happened at Homecoming.

I kind of had my heart set on him getting set on fire again.

whitemilesdavis - October 7, 2005 02:49 PM (GMT)
Dang Dave, I hadn't thought about that. I bet you're right, to get back at JR's buddy, Austin.

whitemilesdavis - October 7, 2005 04:25 PM (GMT)
Umm..take this for what it's worth, but it sure would be a strange twist:

QUOTE
# In an audio update on 1Wrestling.com, "The Voice of ECW" Joey Styles confirmed that, assuming Mike Goldberg does indeed sign with WWE, he could become the lead UFC announcer. Styles has expressed serious interest in calling UFC, and because his WWE contract only bans him from commentating for other pro wrestling companies, there is at least a possibility of such a situation becoming reality.

With regards to Jim Ross being moved from WWE RAW to WWE.com, the word going around backstage was that Vince McMahon, by utilizing the "Internet is the future" line, planned to spin the move into a positive. Should Ross indeed be the roster member "fired" on Monday's RAW, it will be interesting to see how WWE goes about portraying the transfer to WWE.com as a good move for Ross.
