Title: TNA Ratings Out

Mad Dog - October 4, 2005 06:51 PM (GMT)
TNA did a .8 which equals 850,000 people. They kept people through the whole hour which is a good sign. The report said they peaked at the end so they might've jumped to a .9 or so.

So even if only 10% of the people from this are new buys for the PPV that'll be 85,000 buys added to the new PPV.

I think it's a good start.

It's a very good start. It's going to be a while before they work up a bigger fan base, but for a first you can't beat it.

I read that TNA's debut on FSN did somewhere around 0.3. An 0.8 is amazing for the first show, considering TNA hyped none of their wrestlers and all the commercials featured fast clips of high spots.

I hope this translates in a contract longer than 13 weeks.

Mad Dog - October 4, 2005 08:38 PM (GMT)
They have a whole year on Spike not 13 weeks.

Scrooge McSuck - October 4, 2005 08:40 PM (GMT)
D-OH~! I was under the impression they had a 13 week tryout to see how ratings are, in if they stay above the target numbers, Spike would pick them up for a year.

whitemilesdavis - October 4, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that was a completely untrue rumor. Spike refuted it almost immediately after it surfaced.

As for the .8, it's not bad considering the time slot and all. They'll never do amazing numbers at 11 on Saturday night. Hopefully these numbers will encourage Spike to move them to Monday night.

That's what happens when you don't read news anymore... oh well, now I don't have to worry about losing TNA in 3 months. :)

dynamite kido - October 4, 2005 08:58 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure they'll be happy with the ratings if they are even close to where Velocity was........which this was. Also, it should be mentioned that if they succeed the ratings that Velocity got, they may get moved to a better timeslot.

Actually Veloctiy hasn't done a .8 in a long time. It was going .5s for the last year it was around or so. So TNA actually outperformed what a normal edition would've pulled. They also pulled a .9 with males 18-35 from what I've heard. So they're hitting the guys that gave up on wrestling recently.

This is a great spring board though. If they can pull this to a 1.0 that's a huge success. Also if they can turn 10% of that 850,000 into regular PPV buyers they're set financially.

Considering that TNA has been a consistently good show ever since they stopped airing on FSN (and since they gave Dusty the boot), I don't think ratings will be a problem for TNA... as long as they don't do anything stupid. If they keep the quality where it's at (and perhaps improve) then I think they have nowhere to go, but up.

Big F'N Swigg - October 5, 2005 02:46 AM (GMT)
It's good starting ground considering that they're airing on Saturday nights.

.

I know that, but since it was their debut show...........it's going to be interesting to see where the ratings are this upcoming week and how they hold up over about 3 months or so. Then we'll get an idea of where they stand........

Hopefully people are like me and cannot wait for more.
