Title: Best Heels
Description: Ever!
prof_plague - October 3, 2005 04:42 AM (GMT)
I got this from another site, but replaced with a couple of my picks.
| QUOTE |
| PWInsider has this poll up and I thought we'd do it too. 8 brackets, with my pick and the leaders of the polls (as of now) to follow. |
Flair
JBL
Scott Steiner
Blassie
Gino Hernandez
My Pick: Blassie
Leader: Flair
Sheik
Gorgeous George
Savage
Dudley Boyz
Blanchard
My Pick: Sheik
Leader: Sheik
DiBiase
Freebirds
Angle
Muraco
Owen Hart
My Pick: DiBiase - Although it was hard for me to not say Hart
Leader: DiBiase
Piper
Rogers
Greg Valentine
Hennig
Kowalski
My Pick: Kowalski/Piper - I'm undecided on this one.
Leader: Piper
Hogan
Michaels
Gilbert
Punk
Kane
My Pick: Hogan - for a his turn in '96. A personal bias inside of me wanted to pick Punk, but Hogan's heel turn was just that good.
Leader: Michaels
McMahon
Douglas
Jericho
Bossman
Lawler
My Pick: McMahon
Leader: McMahon
HHH
Heenan
Abdullah
Kaufman
Jarrett
My Pick: Kaufman - Because of the contraversy he made in such a short amount of time, although I would like to say Heenan because he was heel his entire career, and his natural wit and charisma made people hate him more.
Leader: Heenan
Rude
Roberts
Superstar Graham
Iron Sheik
Honky Tonk Man
My Pick: Graham/Iron Shiek - I debated so much between these two. I wrote my response and erased it at least three times before calling it a tie. Both men were such heels that they were the only people to dethrone Sammartino and Backlund.
Leader: Rude
Scrooge McSuck - October 3, 2005 04:54 AM (GMT)
My picks from the brackets:
Ric Flair (JBL?! WHO THE FUCK...)
Randy Savage
The Freebirds
Roddy Piper
Hulk Hogan
Vince McMahon
Bobby Heenan
Superstar Billy Graham

Pfft... Everyone on that list is a better heel than Punk. Michaels in his D-X days, Hogan in the nWo, Hot Stuff in the UWF, and even Kane had hot heel runs. It's not my fault WWE fucks it up 2 months later every time.
prof_plague - October 3, 2005 04:59 AM (GMT)
Yeah, me voting for Punk is the biggest bias for me. Well, he and Hart.
Scrooge McSuck - October 3, 2005 05:06 AM (GMT)
Owen or Bret? Either way, Bret had a good, yet very short heel run in 1997 (and a mediocre Tag run in the 80's), and Owen kinda sucked at it other than being rotten little brat who's jealous of everyone else. Neither of which screams "Best heel ever."
TheGreatWhiteChoate - October 3, 2005 05:29 AM (GMT)
Ric Flair
Sheik
Owen Hart
Piper/ Hennig
Hogan/ Michaels
McMahon
Heenan
Iron Sheik

Abdullah
Honky Tonk Man

I think I may turn this post into a few poll post and we can decide it that way. In which case, anyone heels people would like to consider added to the list that PWI doesn't include?
I had a couple in mind:
Bret Hart
Andre the Giant
Jesse Ventura
Paul Orndorff
Harley Race
Terry Funk
Any other people would like to include?
Real F'n Show - October 3, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
Flair
Sheik
DiBiase
Piper
Michaels
McMahon
HHH
Superstar Graham
Where is Eddie Guerrero?
Big F'N Swigg - October 3, 2005 11:49 PM (GMT)
Flair
George
Dibiase
Hennig
Hogan
I have to say Bossman, just for dragging Big Show's daddy's casket, and a little bit for "pepper steak"
Kaufman. Hands Down. "This is SOOOAAPP! Do you know how to use this???"
It's a tie between Rude & Roberts. I can't pick. They're both personal favorites.
prof_plague - October 4, 2005 03:08 AM (GMT)
You know who I don't think is on this list...
Ivan Koloff
S.T. Strickler - October 4, 2005 03:18 AM (GMT)

He's added to my list for the poll I'll put together.
Scrooge McSuck - October 4, 2005 03:25 AM (GMT)
Yokozuna? Damn, you people have horrible taste in heels. Why not pick Cheatum the Evil Midget or The Ding Dongs. I heard Thomas Rich needs love too.
jamiegeist - October 4, 2005 03:29 AM (GMT)
Cmon Scrooge, don't dog JBL. He is a great heel and gets through bigtime to the casual fan. My wife is usually the big test. Tonight when he got out of his limo in that stupid jacket she was like "damn he is such a cocksucker. He is really good at playing that character."
I happen to think JBL is one of the most entertaining things in wrestling in the last few years.
Scrooge McSuck - October 4, 2005 03:31 AM (GMT)
JBL shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Flair and Blassie for top heels. I've never seen Gino Hernandez, so I can't comment on him, and Scott Steiner was just horrible as Big Poppa Pump.
jamiegeist - October 4, 2005 03:32 AM (GMT)
I can list a shitload of people that don't belong on that list before JBL. Steiner, Dudleyz, Bossman, Honky, Valentine, Kane. I can go on. I would say Hogan, but I don't wanna start a shitfit.
S.T. Strickler - October 4, 2005 03:33 AM (GMT)
Scrooge, you can't tell me that Yoko wasn't a great heel. He was one of them guys the fans wanted to see get the crap kicked out of.

I remember when he first became JBL. I said he's going to be champ soon, and everyone doubted me. He is one of the best heels I've seen in a long time.
Scrooge McSuck - October 4, 2005 03:35 AM (GMT)
I never felt that, considering WWE's drawing power and attendance was in the toilet from 1992-97. I'd rather call JBL the best heel ever than Yokozuna.

We could have an entire xenophobia category on its own.

more than half of the list doesn't stand a chance, but they needed filler. Hogan in 1996-97 was the #1 heel in wrestling. I'd say he was a pretty good heel, just because it was Hulk Hogan, Mr. I love all the kids and Hulkamaniacs, spitting in their faces.
Bossman was a good midcard heel, but he shouldn't be considered.
Kane started off fine, but WWE, naturally, killed him dead, and several times after that.
How can you call Honkytonk Man and Greg Valentine bad heels?!
jamiegeist - October 4, 2005 03:38 AM (GMT)
Thank you Plague for being one of the only other 5 guys on the net I've seen that aren't "too cool" or "in the know" to be able to say JBL is one hell of a heel.
Scrooge McSuck - October 4, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
JBL is one of the better heels in WWE today, but is that really much to brag about? Let's look at the other contenders...
Chris Masters - No.
Carlito - Has potential.
Triple H - Already on the list, and has done everything to death.
Eddie Guerrero - Meh. Doesn't stand out much.
Kurt Angle - Too goofy.

But then again, there weren't any big draw faces at this time.
Scrooge McSuck - October 4, 2005 03:51 AM (GMT)
If people paid to see Yokozuna lose, how come attendance was shit? That's the whole point Plague. You can't be the best if fans don't care to go to shows. Besides, Yokozuna hardly did anything heelish other than beating up Jim Duggan and Hulk Hogan in 1993.

Who was a top face you'd pay to see beat Yokozuna? I know it's the point to want to see him get beat, but who would you want to see beat Yokozuna?
Scrooge McSuck - October 4, 2005 04:15 AM (GMT)
No one. I never liked Yokozuna. :P I was a zombie fan though, so I cheered Luger by default.

 Honestly, i've never really liked Luger. Even when he was the top babyface.

I'm think I'm going to put together the heel list for a poll in a day or two. Anybody you want to add to the list?

I thought about it. But I think anyone who is listed will be added to the poll. Well, series of polls - kind of like a tournament for the ultimate Best Heel ever poll at the end. So, they'll be listed, but just vote for whomever you want. I might make them multiple choice so everyone can have a couple of votes when they can't decide between one or two wrestlers.
prof_plague - October 6, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
Last call on naming heels, I'll even include some tag teams in the poll, announcers, managers, et cetera.
