Title: October iMPACT discussion
Description: AT LAST!!!
Big F'N Swigg - October 1, 2005 10:22 PM (GMT)
Discuss this month's iMPACT on Spike TV!!
dynamite kido - October 1, 2005 11:37 PM (GMT)
It starts tonight, bitches!
Real F'n Show - October 1, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
This should be fun to watch. Along with WWE's PPV-like Raw coming up, I'll actually have something to write about in my live journal. Bring on the AJ/Strong goodness!
Mad Dog - October 2, 2005 04:03 AM (GMT)
Wow, the new production to the show is awesome. The show turned out better than the spoilers made it sound.
jamiegeist - October 2, 2005 05:13 AM (GMT)
Thanks to my brand new digital cable and DVR via relocation, I watched the show tonight. I was very impressed and entertained. I liked the squash-type matches, with strong guys going over lower card. I miss that old school WWF Superstars style of show. Matter of fact, we need a "TNA Central" or something where guys just cut promos and shit.
The 3 way seemed a bit frazzled and way too spotty and set up for me. And I loved ECW and their cruiser stuff, so thats saying something.
I love the Canadian Destroyer.
I hate the Pounce. Its the most rediculously overrated finisher in wrestling. Well, not really, but its still stupid.
I need to see Samoa Joe. Never have seen him, gave up on TNA when I could never catch it at the right time on FSN anyway. I saw small clips of him killing people with that brainbuster during the X Division package, and I want more.
Good show, with a strong finish. I wish Nash wouldve just stayed off the mic, and ended the show with the powerbomb, but it was still a great first show.
Mad Dog - October 2, 2005 06:26 AM (GMT)
It seems to be getting a ton of positive feedback except DeathValleyDriver but then that board's been shit for a solid 6 months.
SamoaRowe - October 2, 2005 02:16 PM (GMT)
The spoilers made this show sound like shit, but it came off incredibly well on tv. Even if they had to reshoot a finish to Styles/Strong, it came off undetected on tv (at least to my naive eyes).
The main event interview was good too, as I marked out for "Team 3-D." I love their new shirt, on the back it has a middle finger sticking up and the words "Trademark this!"

They re-did the entire match, so that's probably why you didn't notice...
I thought the three way was a fun mindless spotfest. They should really do something with Shelley, he's awesome.
Mad Dog - October 2, 2005 04:52 PM (GMT)
I thought Shelley/Williams bumping heads was hilarious. They worked some very nice comedy spots into the match.
Scrooge McSuck - October 2, 2005 05:10 PM (GMT)
I have to admit, TNA rocked last night. The production looked cleaner and more "Wow", the decision for matches was better (No Monty Kip Sopp or other has been WWE'ers), the "Coming Up..." preview thing looked cool, and all around, no complaints.
dynamite kido - October 2, 2005 07:02 PM (GMT)
I'm going with MadDog on this one as I thought the show came across WAY better than it sounded from the spoilers.
Scrooge McSuck - October 2, 2005 07:49 PM (GMT)
Watched the Main Event Interview. Nothing bad, at least they kept it short. I found myself marking out for the Dudley Boyz and Kevin Nash. I need a good scrubbing, now.
I also join the wagon that the spoilers made the show about 50000x times worse than it came across as, which made it pretty good. I loved the hype videos for everyone they did. :)
S.T. Strickler - October 2, 2005 08:34 PM (GMT)
It was good to see TNA on TV again for the first time since.... I don't know when. I'm hoping the show got a decent rating, and I will continue to watch in the coming months. TNA may not be as big as WWE, but it's still pretty good.
Scrooge McSuck - October 2, 2005 08:43 PM (GMT)
I'm hoping it gets a good rating. Last night wasn't great in terms of workrate, but it still slaughtered everything on Raw.
S.T. Strickler - October 2, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
I don't usually say alot about workrates, but I do like the fast-paced action of TNA compared to the slow style of WWE.
Scrooge McSuck - October 2, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
Definitely, but it's not the bad kinda like ECW where it's just garbage brawling.
Also, just a random something I noticed when watching the Invasion PPV...
Jim Ross on commentary, ripped into WCW for being watered down and limiting their wrestlers to doing the same thing as everyone else.
If that's not the pot calling the fucking kettle black, I don't know what is.

I can tell you weren't a fan years ago of WCW when Ross worked there. I had that same feeling you had watching Wrestlemania IX when Ross was blowing his load after everything they did. Yet, years earlier he would constantly rag on WWF wrestling for being cartoonish and saying how the NWA/WCW is where you tune in to see "wrestling". JR's been on my douchbag list for like 15 years.
Scrooge McSuck - October 2, 2005 10:46 PM (GMT)
Another comment I noticed was during Halloween Havoc '89. He made reference to the Blade Runners, and in not so many words, ripped into Warrior by saying Sting has progressed far more than "his partner".

Of course, old JR was constantly getting in pot shots on the WWF back in the day.
Havoc 89 eh? That's a awesome show.
Scrooge McSuck - October 2, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
The Turner Video clipping is a bit annoying, most notably for Zenk/Rotundo and SST v. MX/Dr. Death, but it's an enjoyable show regardless. Gotta love the Thunderdome Cage. :) I may rip into Flair now and then, but some of the chops sounded vicious, and the figure-four/splash combos at the end got me marking like a bitch.
S.T. Strickler - October 2, 2005 11:48 PM (GMT)
Wasn't there a Thunderdome Cage match at SuperBrawl IV, featuring Dustin Rhodes, Sting, and Pillman vs. Orndorff, Rude, and Austin?
Scrooge McSuck - October 2, 2005 11:51 PM (GMT)
I know there was one with Sting/Rhodes v. Vader/Orndorff/Someone where Cactus Jack ran in late to sub for Ron Simmons. It was on a Clash of the Champions, IIRC. No idea for SuperBrawl.
Edit: PWI Almanac says you're right. Also the main event was held in the Thunderdome.
S.T. Strickler - October 3, 2005 12:12 AM (GMT)
I sorta knew about the six-man tag 'cause I watched it on WWE Jukebox.
Big F'N Swigg - October 3, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
My two cents:
The matches were really good. The pacing was a bit quick on some, but as we've already heard in the thread, that's not necessarily bad.
AMW's new look definitely suits them better. I like this instead of the "hillbilly" look they've had before. The only problem is that the whole angle reeks of Evolution.
No follow up on Raven? I wanted to see what happened!
My only actual problem came with the last segment. Team 3-D should have been enough. That should have been the exciting ending. Nash kind of stole their Thunder.
dynamite kido - October 3, 2005 01:51 AM (GMT)
Normally I would agree with what you thought on Nash Swiggy............but I don't think many people see Nash as a big deal anymore, so it didn't take anything away from the Dudleys

It's not like it ruined the show for me. It's just one of those things.
Scrooge McSuck - October 3, 2005 02:47 AM (GMT)
Nothing will ever touch WWF blowing their wad on July 9th, 2001. They had weeks of build up there, and blew it all off in 80 minutes (not counting commercials).
S.T. Strickler - October 3, 2005 02:58 AM (GMT)
Pardon my forgetfulness, but what happened on July 9, 2001?
Scrooge McSuck - October 3, 2005 03:02 AM (GMT)
Shane McMahon officially turns WCW heel by assualting The Undertaker when Undertaker took his place vs. DDP.
Kurt Angle is screwed out of WCW Title.
RVD and Tommy Dreamer Debuted.
"ECW" was "Formed"
WCW and ECW merged
Stephanie McMahon named ECW "owner"
eStragand - October 3, 2005 04:20 AM (GMT)
Yup...I remember that show. For about 25 minutes, the ECW angle was red-hot. Then Stephanie and her newly overinflated fun bags walked out. Cuz' when you think EXTREME, you think of Stephanie McMahon!
By the way.. I need to catch the IMpact replay. It's on Monday night, after RAW, right? If WWE is slighlty savvy, they'll run over by about 5-10 minutes.
Scrooge McSuck - October 3, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
Nothing wrong with overinflated funbags. Too bad they became really droopy 2 years later. :(
whitemilesdavis - October 3, 2005 04:56 PM (GMT)
I enjoyed it. None of the matches were great, but it was good to see wrestling and fresh faces. The pace was great for an hour long show, as it seemed action packed throughout. I never once zoned out while watching it, as opposed to rarely zoning in while watching RAW. I didn't like Roderick being treated like a total jobber, but maybe later he'll get a chance to shine a bit. Petey Williams looked great, which is new, and the Detroyer is the most over move on the planet. Nothing great, but a fun show that I think will hold viewers, and if they stay consistent, it could grow over time.
eStragand - October 4, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
The Monday replay slot works better for me--10 pm in the World's Greatest TimeZone For TV Viewing. That's what got me hooked on the Nitro replay back in 1996. It was on late enough for me to catch it and I could finish up my 6-9:30pm class.
Oh yeah... Sabin WON? Honestly, didn't expect that
whitemilesdavis - October 4, 2005 08:55 PM (GMT)
See, it comes on at 12 here. 10pm on Monday night would be incredible.
Big F'N Swigg - October 9, 2005 03:32 AM (GMT)
Dude, I LOVED the Dudley's promo to start the show. Brilliant idea
Scrooge McSuck - October 9, 2005 03:50 AM (GMT)
Woah, D'Von looks to be in better shape than I remember last week. He actually looks like he has muscle, compared to the flabby look he was sporting last year.
SamoaRowe - October 9, 2005 04:17 AM (GMT)
Another good episode of iMPACT this week. I'm planning on doing a review, probably on monday or tuesday (I'm too tired to do it tonight, and I'll probably be too busy tomorrow).
Christopher Daniels really brought the awesome this week.
Scrooge McSuck - October 9, 2005 04:21 AM (GMT)
Does Spike TV rebroadcast this weeks episode of Impact? I missed the first 40 minutes.
Mad Dog - October 9, 2005 04:43 AM (GMT)
Monday at midnight.
I thought it was a decent enough show. Daniels/Aries/Bentley was fun for the most part. I take it Samoa Joe's going to debute during Daniel's gauntlet match next week.
whitemilesdavis - October 9, 2005 06:28 PM (GMT)
I have to give Impact about a C this week. The JJ show is already getting old, and screw job finishes just don't work anymore. Several positives, like Gail Kim. I think she is a great pickup as far as women go.
