Title: Anyone else into "Lost"?
eStragand - September 30, 2005 06:16 AM (GMT)
Gee, here's a unique idea...an Internet message board thread about the TV show "Lost"!!
Just curious if any of youse guys watch it, as well. It's one of the 3 shows that I follow religiously (others being Reno 911 and Justice League Unl'td). Plus, chics like it, too. The season opener set up a whole shitload of new questions.
The previews always make the next week seem like the "action packed episode that will explain everything"... but next week arrives and it's more of the same. The "new questions and swerves" is getting to be a gimmick, but if everything were to be explained, the show would plummet in both popularity and quality. For now, I seem to dig it, though.
Oh yeah, I also wanna' bang Kate and hang out with Hurley.

NOT YOU TOO, MR. E! NOT YOU TOO!

<--fucking hates Lost, because it's a 1 dimensional show with goofy random plots. If they ever did "blowoff" the storyline, or even give a real explanation on what the fuck is going on, they have nothing planned as a back up, and are thus fucked.

Oh yeah, I admit that it's a gimmick show. They also have alot of parts that make me roll my eyes. Like this week's crappy backstory with Mike the Black Guy.....or Sawyer the Asshole Guy walking around with his nuts hanging out, late last season. Also, roughly 40% of each hour is full of commercials.
It seems to dabble in alot of Marvel Comics-type of stuff; Weird supernatural/sci-fi stuff affecting "regular" folks, the family issues and overblown conflict each character seems to have, and the seemingly uber-powerful kid (I think Walt the Little Black Kid is like the Fantastic Four's Franklin Richards). There's also a recurring thing with a Green Lantern/Flash DC comic book that pops up on occasion. Now with the bunker and mutant shark, I'm beginning to think that they're marooned on Blackhawk Island. Not the first time a TV show has borrowed ideas from a comic-- a portion of CSI's plots are ripped from old Batman comics of the early 70's.

And this show is categorized as a "Drama"? Sounds like Science-fucking-Fiction to me.

It's a show that has always sounded interesting to me, but it also sounds like it takes a bit of a comittment to keep up with it. I just haven't had the time. I'll end up byeing the CD one day.

Season 1 DVD set is $50 on Amazon. Excuse me while I waste that money on other shows, like the Legend of Zelda and Tales from the Crypt. :P
I tried watching Lost, but it generally keeps you confused, like watching a wrestling show completely booked by Vince Russo. At times it's fine, but more often than not, stupid shit happens...
A MUTANT SHARK!?
whitemilesdavis - September 30, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
I'll wait til I see it at one of my local used DVD shops. Prolly get it for about $12.
With frickin' lazer beams attached to its head!
eStragand - September 30, 2005 08:11 PM (GMT)
Wasn't a MUTANT so much that it had buggy eyes, arms or anything... it just had a symbol on its back. The same symbol that was inside the bunker.
Yeah, it actually is more sci-fi. The flashbacks are typically the "drama" emphasis, but all the active stuff on the island is kinda' "sci-fi/adventure/mystery". ABC just bills it as a "drama" in commercials, since that would suck in more casual viewers than saying "sci-fi".

Then I can call these losers who bash Sci-Fi but watch Lost hypocrites. I knew the show had 1 good purpose. :)

I've liked what I've seen but I've been hesitant to get into it. I just don't see how they can keep the premise interesting for any length of time.
jamiegeist - October 13, 2005 03:07 AM (GMT)
I just can't. Maybe I'd like it if I tried, but it just looks SOOOO fuckin lame that I can't even give it a chance. I used to say its cause I worked weird schedule and couldn't do primetime TV. Now I work all days, have a DVR, and I still have no interest in even trying to get "Lost"!

Good idea to jump to this thread, eS.
I will say this: The show is good, but you have to "believe" in the plot. It's not like jumping into a sitcom at some point. There's a lot of weird stuff that you just have to accept.
Like the black smoke.
And I never saw the mark on the Shark. Is that the same one that almost got Sawyer?
eStragand - March 1, 2007 10:30 PM (GMT)
Possibly the same shark...or else a shark from the same group.
Spoiler: the black smoke gets an upper midcard push in the third season. For one episode, at least.
Also, last week's episode (aired 2/21) was one of the WORST of the entire series. This week's was fun, though.
I've also discovered that it's crucial to completely ignore the promo trailers every week. Enjoy the scenes, but do NOT listen to the announcer's voice, or the graphics that declare "The Biggest Secrets of the Season will be Revealed!" Those are really, REALLY misleading and have alienated alot of fans.
