Title: OaO Let's start a site thread
Description: let's discuss starting a website

Big F'N Swigg - December 23, 2004 05:11 PM (GMT)
So let's discuss starting a site. For real.

If we start a site, what would we call it? I think "Da Wrestling Site" is a little limiting as we will hopefully have more than wrestling on the site. We also shouldn't have something to do with Smarks or SmartMarks as there are plenty of sites/forums involving those names.

IMO, if we start a site it should have a different appeal than the SmartMarks site. Anyone got any ideas? We could do reviews just like TSM, but we should be an alternative, not a copycat.

Let's start throwing around ideas.

dynamite kido - December 23, 2004 06:01 PM (GMT)
I could see a panel type review of shows or something......

Big F'N Swigg - December 23, 2004 06:04 PM (GMT)
I could see that too.

We could have "panel" reviews of the weekly TV shows, and some of DVD's. Similar to how LAZ & LFV did the Rush towards the end.

Real F'n Show - December 23, 2004 08:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that would work. I could see myself reviewing Velocity on a regular basis, and I don't think CBF would mind adding his thoughts on the show either.

Can't really think of a site name right now. Thanks for taking the time to work on one though, Swiggy. Would you mind linking me to some sites you've made in the past?

RFS

Big F'N Swigg - December 23, 2004 09:37 PM (GMT)
Here's a few links. These sites were mostly made with ImageReady, as they weren't meant to be frequently updated. I'm trying my best to re-learn HTML, Java, etc, so that I can make a better site for updating.

http://fwwefed.250x.com/superstars/singles.html

EDIT: The last site has a glitch in the code, but if you click on the "Stables," "Tag Teams," or "Injuries" links, you'll see what the page is supposed to look like.

whitemilesdavis - December 23, 2004 11:01 PM (GMT)
I think the look of those sites would accomplish our goal perfectly, Swiggy. I think calling it Dawrestling site or something similar may be a good idea. When I stopped reading TSM every day is when it got to be about 50/50 wrestling and other entertainment. I think it would be cool to have it be overwhelmingly wrestling articles, with a couple of odd sports or entertainment columns thrown in for flavor. I also agree that a round table type discussion here and there could be really cool, especially like discussing an upcoming PPV.

Edit: Incidentally, www.dawrestlingsite.com and www.dawrestlingboard.com are both open. Whenever we get the site built and ready to publish, I would probably be willing to purchase the domain name for us, not that it has to be one of those two, just whatever we come up with that isn't taken.

Scrooge McSuck - December 24, 2004 12:50 AM (GMT)
I could do Sunday Night Heat reviews... (cries) Bastard. I could always do a mini-thoughts portion of Velocity before the review to give me something positive.

Big F'N Swigg - December 24, 2004 01:26 AM (GMT)
I've been planning on doing random CD reviews here and there for the boards anyhow, so doing them for a site wouldn't be a big deal. I was also considering doing movie reviews, as I have been "trained" in some sense of the word.

Scrooge McSuck - December 24, 2004 04:14 AM (GMT)
By that do you mean you've sat through plenty of stinkers that would make Satan want to throw up in disgust?

dynamite kido - December 24, 2004 04:57 AM (GMT)
Well, I might have more tapes here than anyone.....so I could do some tape reviews.

I mean I've taken classes on reviewing movies.

And yes, I've sat through PLENTY of stinkers.

Real F'n Show - December 24, 2004 08:36 PM (GMT)
Awesome sites Swiggy, those would work perfectly. I guess we could call it Da Wrestling Site, as it goes well with Da Wrestling Board. No hurry on the site though Swiggy, just get it done whenever.

The Last Free Voice - December 26, 2004 03:44 PM (GMT)
I can do ROH reviews, Possibly Impact (depends on what time I work on Fridays each week) and any other shit I have. Also I can assist with Music or Books, or hell, anything ya'll want to throw at me.

Big F'N Swigg - December 26, 2004 11:56 PM (GMT)
Ok, so here's what I'm thinking at the moment.

We want a site that stays on focus with wrestling material. We want it named "Da Wrestling Site."

So how about this: Once I get the page built, we do "round table" reviews for RAW, Smackdown, and Impact. This is how it works: Those who have access to each show will write a short reaction to each segment. (Segment being each part of the show between commercials, not each and every individual match and vignette.) We work it all together into a "Discussion" of the show, which we post the next day. We have a rotation so that someone different starts the "Discussion" each week.

We'll also have individual reviews of different tapes/shows that everyone gets. Every so often we'll have movie/CD/book reviews, but we maintain the wrestling focus. We can have overlapping reviews, meaning that both DK and LFV(or anyone for that matter) can review the same show, because we wan't to showcase the different points of view. (limited POV being the problem with some other wrestling sites.)

We maintain the site and the forum with the idea that we welcome different POV's, not discriminate against them. We also try to maintain a "Blue-collar" image. Meaning that we don't get "snobby" with our reviews and within the forum. We come across as regular guys who like wrestling.

Which leads to the tagline: "Da Wrestling Site: The Duke Droese of Wrestling Discussion."

Scrooge McSuck - December 26, 2004 11:59 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a good idea. The one thing I like most is to check different opinions for a certain show. For example, say a certain writer is bias to a wrestler and hates him, but won't admit he has a good match. Thats what another opinion or two can be for.

Sounds great. You can run the motherfucker hopefully, and I can help out, as it sounds like a lot of work. I'll maintain charge of the board however. The site's concept sounds great, and I love the tag line. PM me if you need suggestions or help with anything.

Real F'n Show - December 27, 2004 04:01 PM (GMT)
People who might contribute so far:

Round Table Discussions (anyone who wants to be involved)
Real F'n Show: Velocity reviews, ROH reviews possibly, Raw reviews
CBF: Heat, Velocity
Swiggy: random CD reviews
DK: random tape reviews (?)
LFV: ROH reviews, Impact reviews (?), etc.

I think that's everyone who's stated they could do something, I'll update this post if more people want in.

Scrooge McSuck - December 27, 2004 04:12 PM (GMT)
I could participate in the RAW "Roundtable Discussions: on a regular basis. Smackdown I watch semi-regularly and don't get TNA iMPACT.

I can do some ROH show reviews for sure, but they most likely won't be current. I have some catching up to do... Alot of catching up to do...

TehDoct0r - December 28, 2004 05:12 PM (GMT)
I'm not always available for reviewing the weekly shows, but I could definetly do show reviews, and maybe a "Match of the Week" feature or something along those lines. And if we do PPV predictions, I'd be in. I'm usually decent at those.

Mad Dog - December 28, 2004 05:13 PM (GMT)
I might be able to help but I'm not sure. Still experimenting with Cheap Seats.

I'd go with the 1st one. Personally I think a white background is a little too "blah" and has no pizazz, zork, excitement. The first one is awesome though.

Yeah, I'm working on developing a visual "theme" to the site. I want it to be eye-catching, with a hint of simplicity.

Real F'n Show - December 29, 2004 10:51 PM (GMT)
Nice banners. It's a little hard to read our "catchphrase" in the first one, but I like the background better. Good work.

Big F'N Swigg - January 1, 2005 08:20 PM (GMT)
Here's a question for you guys: What would you think a good color scheme for the site would be? I have a few ideas myself, but I'd prefer some input.

Scrooge McSuck - January 1, 2005 08:27 PM (GMT)
Hmm... I'm partial to gray and blue, but that sounds like a horrible mix. Black and Red is always a good combination, as long as the red isn't too dark. Orange and Green is a good one too.

Real F'n Show - January 1, 2005 10:24 PM (GMT)
I'd say either gray and red or white and red.

TehDoct0r - January 2, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
Everyone and their mother uses black and red. But if it looks best that way, use it.

Orange and Green mixed together=PUKE

Mad Dog - January 2, 2005 10:33 PM (GMT)
We should try to beat 411 for ugliest site ever.

Ok so I was just kidding but I think gray and some other color might work.

Scrooge McSuck - January 2, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
Aren't they the colors of the Florida Gators?

You changed your name to Charlotte Bobcat? Wow, I didn't think it could get worse, but I was WRONG.

Charlotte Bobcat is the LEAST horrible looking.

Gray and Green sounds good, maybe Gray and Orange.

It made no sense. It was suppose to be a joke, like different kind of posts, like emotionally different or something.

I gave up on it 7 posts in.

Real F'n Show - January 6, 2005 06:30 PM (GMT)
I think this site will work out really well in terms of generating new members to the board and attracting some attention on the net. Obviously most members of other well known boards are lead to the board through the site, and hopefully that will be the case with us.

Ok, I want honest opinions. If you think they all suck, let me know, but if you like them, let me know.

The point of my posting this, though, is to see if you guys like certain elements more than others.
