Title: Video game world champions.
Description: Best and worst.

I made Jeff Hardy my World Champion in the original Smackdown for PSone, then had him feud with Matt.
Check. |
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 01:44 AM (GMT)
I tried making Crash Holly my World Champ in No Mercy, but Triple H wouldn't job.
And I also tried winning the "World Title Gauntlet" with Tatanka in Royal Rumble for SNES, but God was against me, and let Ted Dibiase win, because I kept beating up the referee.
SamoaRowe - September 21, 2005 01:44 AM (GMT)
I was once responsible for Lita winning the World title in my friend's NO Mercy game. He was outraged and hit the reset buttom before the change could be permanent. Later while he wasn't looking, I made her win the title again.
He should just be happy that No Mercy doesn't keep track of title histories.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 01:45 AM (GMT)
But you would know, and that's the sweetest thing.
I recently lost the World Title in WM2000 as Kane to...
Scott Taylor
I fucking hate Cage matches in that game. :(

I hate cage matches in most games... except for the N64 THQ games.
I don't know if I mentioned this before, but while Godfather was Champion in my game, Gangrel was a top contender for the belt.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 01:49 AM (GMT)
Good... I guess. I pushed Gangrel hard in SD 2: Know Your Role, but the MSP whooped my monkey ass in a Handicap match. Oh well, still won eventually.

I always seem to lose handicap matches in the Smackdown series. I used to enjoy them in No Mercy because I'd typically get my ass kicked for several minutes before making an inspirational comeback.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 01:53 AM (GMT)
Oh man, that reminds me of a No Mercy situation. I had a 20 minute back and forth match as Kane against Triple H...
You should know the ending, since I said "Triple H." I screamed out "fuck" as loud as humanly possible then slammed the controller down, crippling it in the process. The B button would never be the same again.

That's a tragic story :(
I know the joysticks on my N64 controllers are messed up for life, but the other buttons still work just fine.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 01:56 AM (GMT)
Not a title match...
I used Andre the Giant to beat the shit out of Michael Cole for about 15 minutes before powerbomb him through a table.
Memories...
Oh yeah, and I jobbed out Shawn Michaels to Viscera.
S.T. Strickler - September 21, 2005 01:57 AM (GMT)
I hated steel cage matches in Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain, especially when it came to the tag format. No matter who my partner was, they would always beat up their counterpart, and then escape from the cage, leaving me in a 2-on-1 situation until the other guy left. And most of the time, I would always lose when it came to a 1-on-1 situation.
SamoaRowe - September 21, 2005 01:58 AM (GMT)
Hehehe.
The other night I played the European championship story mode in No Mercy as Viscera. I was foiled at the very end when I had to defend the title in a triple threat match against Kurt Angle and an unGodly powerful Taka Michinoku (the champ when the game started). I think Taka ended up pinning Angle at some point during the match (which went about 25 minutes).
I was too annoyed to try the match again, so I just let the title change stay. Then I did an all CPU King of the Ring tournament with the European title on the line to screw Taka and get the final laugh.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:01 AM (GMT)
You couldn't beat TAKA MICHINOKU? Come on... hit finishers on both guys, then pin whoever you feel like. I usually win 'em in 5 minutes now, 10 tops.
Real F'n Show - September 21, 2005 02:03 AM (GMT)
In SvR, I currently hold the belt with Chuck Palumbo.
In No Mercy, I think my champ is Val Venis.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:04 AM (GMT)
Chuck Palumbo?!
Winner, and NEW Champion for Worst Champion Ever, Real F'N Show!
[Gives Joey Abs the world title in SD2]
SamoaRowe - September 21, 2005 02:06 AM (GMT)
In one of my EWR games that doesn't have a diary, Chuck Palumbo is a 2-time World Champion. Mostly because there was no one else ready for the belt at the time.
I think my lineage in that game is Booker T, Rock, Samoa Joe, Rock, Joe, Rock, Palumbo, Rock, Palumbo, Johnny C.
Real F'n Show - September 21, 2005 02:12 AM (GMT)
Plus, I love Chuck's moveset in SvR. He's got the Samoan Drop, superkick, Yakuza kick, AND torture rack, how can he NOT be champion?

Very good points.
I didn't play as Palumbo when I was playing SvR at Plagues, but I faced him several times. He was a good opponent, mostly because he'd job :P
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
Just create a guy with the same, and better, moveset. I had kickass title matches with Ricky Steamboat and Mr. Perfect CAWs. )

I'm too lazy to properly make CAWs for Smackdown games. The only three I made for HCTP were AJ Styles, Paul London, and Smaffles the Pimpin' Bear.
I didn't even make myself.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:19 AM (GMT)
I made myself once. Somehow, making a fat guy with a hobo beard and Bobby Roode style hair wasn't as fun as I thought it would be, so I created a masked man, Sting, and went to town with the Black Scorpion/Sting Starrcade '90 Rematch.
SamoaRowe - September 21, 2005 02:22 AM (GMT)
Yeah, if I were to really make the CAW look like me, it would be a disgrace. I typically tried to be consistent with the CAW's bearing my name in the N64 games. I have a similar character in Warzone, Attitude, WM2000, and No Mercy: a cocky guy with died red hair and the Rock Bottom as a finisher.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:27 AM (GMT)
I've never been a Rock Bottom fan. Always a tombstone for me.

I also like choke-slams.
This somehow reminds me of how I was playing WM2000 at a friend's house and I was using a CAW that was a cruiserweight. My friend started protesting when my cruiserweight did a foot choke in the corner, saying that small wrestlers couldn't do that. Later that night we were watching the real thing and a cruiserweight (Essa Rios, perhaps) did the exact same thing.
I laughed and laughed.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:31 AM (GMT)
 Did you say anything witty at him when you saw that?

I'm sure I did :D It was just another case where he thought he knew more about wrestling than I did, but I came out victorious.
I actually think that was a factor in why he stopped liking wrestling as much. He was big into Russo-era WWF while I was seeing it in limited doses due to not having cable. When I finally did get cable, I very quickly learned more about wrestling, it's history, and the behind the scenes crap within a year and he got sick of discussing it with me because I could always out-debate him on any wrestling topic.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:35 AM (GMT)
Sometimes being a smart fan sucks, because of that. Instead of innocent comments, everything is "fuck, I hate this bastard! Why doesn't he fucking job?!"
Real F'n Show - September 21, 2005 02:37 AM (GMT)
Plus you know everything in advance, and you're friends think you're cocky when you "predict" things after reading about them on the internet...

I wish I'd had more time as a mark. My transformation into a "smart" fan was very gradual and most of it developed from mid 2001 into 2002. I don't think it was until about mid 2003 until you could have called me a smark.
It's fun when I watch wrestling sometimes with my girlfriend. For example, when Sgt. Slaughter came out for the Masterlock challenge, she commented that "Finally, Chris Masters would get what's coming to him." It was the cutest thing.
Also, I know that if this were six years ago, I probably would've thought the same thing.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:39 AM (GMT)
Well, anyone can still win a match, but when you're "smart", you know who's getting pushed and thus have better odds.
I remember skipping the live broadcast of SummerSlam 2002 because I knew who would win every match (except Booker/Goldust v. Storm/Christian) without having to look anything up.

I did that to a customer at Best Buy once. This was an older guy who came through my line buying a few wrestling dvds, so I struck up a conversation with him. We discussed how on Smackdown that night they were going to name a new General Manager. He was pretty sure it was going to be Mick Foley or Stephanie McMahon. Having already read the spoilers, I "predicted" that it would be Theodore Long. He scoffed at the idea and called it rediculous.
Since then I always wanted to see his reaction while watching Smackdown that night when Long was named GM.

It was around February 2002 for me when the smark kicked in.
And when I see Slaughter I think this...
"Slaughter! Oh wait, he's getting his ass kicked tonight."
SamoaRowe - September 21, 2005 02:43 AM (GMT)
Yeah, seriously. I think the last time Slaughter wrestled without jobbing to someone like Orton or Masters was when he teamed up with Perry Saturn against the Dudley Boyz on Heat.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
Didn't they lose that match too? By DQ I think.

Yeah, they did, but the point was that Slaughter didn't get killed by a green rookie for once.
That, and it was one of Saturn's final matches before the injury before he was released (I think). It was a brief period where they saddled Saturn with an army man gimmick.
Which, would make sense, since Saturn had previously been a ranger.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:48 AM (GMT)
Which makes sense, because he wasn't talking about eating crayons wearing womens lingerie.

Or how about when he was carrying around Moppy? IMO, that's when his push actually stopped being amusing.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:56 AM (GMT)
How about Raven's ventriliquist act when killing Moppy? That was fucking hilarious. It puts HHH marrying a unconcious Stephanie to shame.

Hehehe, I remember that. It was great how they never really followed up on that and just threw them on Unforgiven in a heat-less singles match.
Scrooge McSuck - September 21, 2005 02:58 AM (GMT)
That was the first time I saw Raven wear a skirt in the ring. Dark days were upon us. :(
