Jay Lethal/Dixie vs. The Heartbreak Express: Now I'm usually not one to say that an indy wrestler has to have a certain look, but the HBX just don't look like they belong in ROH. I'm not saying that everyone has to be slim and a cruiserweight, but these guys just scream "I WORK IN FRONT OF TWENTY PEOPLE!". Not just the weight, but the dancing and generic insults at the crowd. Match was interupted by flashing to Matt Hardy a few times, which was really just an excuse to trim some time from the show. Nothing match at all.
Azriel vs. Rodrick Strong: I don't buy Azriel as a "breakout star". I actually liked him better as Angeldust, when he had some personality. Decent match, carried by Rod.
Hilbilly JesHUSS vs. Lacey's Angels: My first time seeing Cheech in the ring, and I was quite impressed. Some decent heel spots out of both of the Angels, and they didn't look too sloppy either. And Jimmy Jacobs has to get props for making Whitmer entertaining... A nice little tag match.
AJ Styles vs. Jimmy Rave: Eh. It was alright. I liked thier match at the 2YA show more. (I haven't seen the 3YC Night 2 Match yet...). The OCK quitting the Embassy was cut for time. Decent match.
Nigel McGuiness vs. Vordell Walker: Er, someone want to sell me on Walker? Please? There wasn't much to this match as they did the Hardy thing again, but Walker just looked generic. Another nothing match.
Samoa Joe vs. Homicide vs. Austin Aries vs. James Gibson: This is what I'm talking about. Great match. Continued the slight Homicide/Gibson issue they were talking about on DBDIII and set up the next nights pure title match perfectly. All four guys put on a great match. I'd put this high three star range.
Christopher Daniels vs. Colt Cabana: Good match technically made better by the story it set up. Not only does Punk taunt Daniels, but Colt also gets across the fact that he is not part of what Punk is doing. A nice return for Daniels and another solid outing from Colt.
CM Punk vs. Jay Lethal: First let me talk about Punker's promo work. Starting after his title win with his incredible "Snake" promo, he is just on fire, being the asshole we all love to hate. Signing his WWE Contract on the ROH belt was a great touch, and his "challenge" to Low Ki was great, just because the fans actually bought it. (The other challenges they didn't, becaue they caught on...)
Now onto the match: At first, it didn't seem like the crowd bought Leathal as a legit challenger, but as the match went on they got into it and were hot by the end. A pretty good outing from both guys, and Punk taunting Joe as he choked Jay out was a nice touch.
Overall: A very good show, which put in line with DBDIII and EFNY (and I'm sure the rest of Punks reign) make a very nice series. I'd recomend it as part of the series, but not nessicarily as a must see show for just casual fans.
Gotta say, LFV, I totally agree with what you said about this show. I didn't see this one until last year when I bought it off of DK, but it was worth viewing as part of the Punk reign. That Punk/Lethal match was impressive in the way it made Lethal seem like a viable challenger by the time it was said and done.
