Title: Smackdown presents... No Mercy
Description: October 9th 2005
SamoaRowe - September 18, 2005 04:49 AM (GMT)

So far we know the main event will be Batista vs Eddie Guerrero for the World Heavyweight Championship. I think this will be a strong main event.
Undertaker vs Randy Orton and Bob Orton has been rumored since Summerslam. This could be a strong match too, if booked properly.
It doesn't look as if Smackdown will have to try hard to upstage Raw's Unforgiven.
Scrooge McSuck - September 18, 2005 04:54 AM (GMT)
My local Indy Promotion wouldn't need to try hard to be better than Unforgiven.

In fairness to Unforgiven, it looks like it will be a better show than Smackdown's No Way Out 2005 and Armageddon 2004.
Not that it's saying a lot.
Scrooge McSuck - September 18, 2005 05:11 AM (GMT)
Last year's Unforgiven card wasn't that much better. Sure, it had Kane/Michaels, Jericho/Christian (again), and Benoit/Regal v. Flair/Batista, but the first match was rather heatless, the Ladder Match was same-old same-old, and the tag just didn't work out as well as I hoped.
SamoaRowe - September 18, 2005 05:14 AM (GMT)
I really dug the Batista/Flair vs Benoit/Regal match and Kane/Michaels was well done fun.
I agree about the ladder match, it was "been there, done that" and the main event between Orton and HHH was a fucking snooze-fest.
Scrooge McSuck - September 18, 2005 05:18 AM (GMT)
I enjoyed the heck out of Kane/HBK too (for the obvious reasons), but the crowd wasn't into either of them until the last 5 minutes.
I thought the tag match was fine, but not the ***+ match I was expecting it to be. That's what I get for hoping Flair could have a good match on PPV, and Regal/Benoit could carry Batista. :(
dynamite kido - September 18, 2005 06:46 AM (GMT)
I'm also assuming at this point that Undertaker/Orton match is going to be a Casket Match.
I'm also thinking they might do a JBL/Rey match at No Mercy too.

No Mercy already sounds five times better than Unforgiven. I've enjoyed the past JBL/Rey matches.
SamoaRowe - September 26, 2005 09:37 PM (GMT)
Randy and Bob Orton vs Undertaker has been officially added to the event.
jamiegeist - September 26, 2005 10:52 PM (GMT)
I really don't get that. Bob hasn't been active in ages. If Taker beats em both, it buries Orton AND gets the net bitching about Taker. If the Ortons win, so what, they won a handicap match.
Scrooge McSuck - September 26, 2005 10:58 PM (GMT)
It's a classic case of "you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't" in regards of the booking. If Undertaker wins, people bitch, and if Undertaker loses, people bitch, especially under this circumstance.
SamoaRowe - September 27, 2005 10:44 PM (GMT)
So far No Mercy looks like something I'd probably buy on DVD. That, of course, depends on how the reviews for the show come off.
I'm strongly tempted to order Bound For Glory... though I don't know if I've made my girlfriend watch too much wrestling yet :P
Scrooge McSuck - September 27, 2005 10:50 PM (GMT)
Just pick up a fatty and she'll watch whatever you want. Preferably a Hardy fan. Lord knows all of them are porkers.

I only had one girlfriend who liked wrestling, and I only dated her for about two weeks in high school. She wasn't even fat either.
SamoaRowe - October 5, 2005 02:09 PM (GMT)
More fun has been added to the card!
Simon Dean vs Bobby Lashley
MNM vs LOD and Christy
Chris Benoit vs Orlando Jordan vs Booker T vs Christian for the U.S. title
Highlight below for a Velocity spoiler:
Nunzio vs Juventud for the Cruiserweight title.
dynamite kido - October 5, 2005 02:46 PM (GMT)
Well, at least they found ways of fucking up the show considering how good it was looking at one point.
SamoaRowe - October 6, 2005 02:43 AM (GMT)
Hurray, this thread is pinned!
Honestly, I still think No Mercy looks like a rather decent show. I won't be ordering it or anything, but I wouldn't be against checking out the dvd.
Scrooge McSuck - October 6, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
I've seen worse. Much worse.
SamoaRowe - October 8, 2005 03:02 AM (GMT)
I read a report that Hardcore Holly vs Ken Kennedy has been added to No Mercy.
My only question is... why?

| Piss break |
Isn't that what the Simon Dean/Bobby Lashley match was for? If they put both matches on back to back, you could piss and take a shower.
Besides, wasn't Holly sort of feuding with Sylvain? Don't get me wrong, the thought of a Sylvain singles match on a pay-per-view is enough to make me gag, but it would have been more logical.

dynamite kido - October 8, 2005 04:02 AM (GMT)
It's actually hard for me to believe that there was a point and time where I was actually considering ordering this show.
Mad Dog - October 8, 2005 04:03 AM (GMT)
I haven't ordered a WWF PPV since No Mercy 2001.
SamoaRowe - October 8, 2005 04:04 AM (GMT)
The last pay-per-view I ordered was Summerslam, just two months ago. The last one before that was Vengeance 2004.
The only pay-per-view I'm considering for this month is Bound for Glory.
Mad Dog - October 8, 2005 04:08 AM (GMT)
I just wander over to a local sports bar that's showing it. Eat some wings, down a few and leave if it's sucking.

So basically you will down a few, eat wings then leave?
Mad Dog - October 8, 2005 04:11 AM (GMT)
Essentially. Sometimes I'll wander over to the pool table or the pinball machine and hope for something interesting to come on.
Scrooge McSuck - October 8, 2005 04:26 AM (GMT)
I haven't ordered a WWE PPV since last years Unforgiven. HBK going over Kane pissed me off that match. I did buy a copy eventually from DK, but $12 is all that show was worth, especially since I wanted it for 1 match. Everything else I've seen I borrowed or stole from someone else.
SamoaRowe - October 8, 2005 05:22 AM (GMT)
I was having fun for a while at TSM when they were sharing the password for the webcasts. I watched Unforgiven and Armageddon for free in 2003, and did not feel bad in the slightest for either considering they both sucked ass.
Scrooge McSuck - October 8, 2005 05:23 AM (GMT)
I paid for both... I don't know why for Unforgiven, and for, Armageddon, the obvious reason. God damn, that night made me hate Triple H... more.

Yeah, Kane being in the main event must have been very exciting for you. Too bad that match sucked and Triple H got his vanity belt back.
I feel like there were other pay-per-views I watched for free through TSM, but I cannot remember at this time.
Scrooge McSuck - October 8, 2005 05:28 AM (GMT)
I saw Bad Blood 2003 for free. That wasn't worth the $0.05 I offered. Kane/Goldy/H wasn't THAT bad, but really, when Kane is the best worker in the ring (Considering Trips was fucked up in every possible way with his groin and quads) for a 3-way match, you don't ask for much.
SamoaRowe - October 8, 2005 05:30 AM (GMT)
Triple H was in suck mode that night, no doubt about that. By some miracle, he had that classic with Shawn Michaels just a couple weeks later. And "by some miracle" I mean he's best friends with HBK and would actually put effort in.
Scrooge McSuck - October 8, 2005 05:31 AM (GMT)
The match was overrated. People jerked off to it because, honestly, how many GOOD matches were on Raw in 2003? Not many. Also Shawn Michaels was in it.
SamoaRowe - October 8, 2005 05:33 AM (GMT)
It was probably the best HBK/HHH match ever, which I guess isn't saying a whole lot. Good matches on 2003 episodes of Raw? Point taken. Eh, I think from September 2002 all the way to October 2003, Raw was the absolute shittiest product the WWE has ever presented us with. Yeah, it was even worse than Smackdown in the spring of 2004.
Scrooge McSuck - October 8, 2005 05:34 AM (GMT)
The only watchable thing from that period... oh fuck it, I'm sure you can complete that sentence.
Smackdown wasn't much better. MR. AMERICA!!?!?!? Jesus Christ. Hulk Hogan really spat on his legacy with that 3 month run.
SamoaRowe - October 8, 2005 05:39 AM (GMT)
Smackdown had a lot of good things going on in 2003:
-The rise of cool-heel John Cena.
-The era of Mattitude.
-Eddie Guerrero's lying, cheating, and stealing.
-The World's Greatest Tag Team.
-Big Show/Lesnar feud.
-The Vengeance pay-per-view.
-Benoit and Angle having great matches left and right.
-A decent cruiserweight division, thanks to Hardy and Mysterio.
Sure, there was crap like Zach Gowen, Mr. America, and the Vince/Stephanie feud, but Raw was just so bad during that era.
-Kevin Nash: main eventer.
-Goldberg wearing Goldust's wig.
-The initial Randy Orton push.
-Chris Jericho and Triple H: buddies.
-Triple H and the title reign from hell.
-Scott Steiner: main eventer.
-Scott Steiner vs Test
-Botchtista
I could go on and on and on.
Scrooge McSuck - October 8, 2005 05:43 AM (GMT)
Raw was so painful... sometimes I'm amazed I'm still watching WWE, considering all the crap thrown at me (1994-96, 1999, 2002-2003, now...)
SamoaRowe - October 8, 2005 05:48 AM (GMT)
I still think Raw 02-03 was the worst, even worse than now. At least their crowds still seem to enjoy the show. Back for most of 2003, the crowds would snooze through the entire show.
