Title: Ultimo Dragon to TNA?
Scrooge McSuck - September 9, 2005 04:07 AM (GMT)
No news (or technically, not a source), but on another message board someone reported Ultimo Dragon and TNA are in talks to bring him into the promotion. I hope this is true. At least TNA knows how to treat real legends.

I doubt they are bringing him in now that they are bringing in Liger....

Word is Dragon is seeking a full-time position. I think we'll probably see him, but he just isn't what he was 10 years ago.

I think he'd be a good tag team worker if they could sign up one of his students. Maybe an Ultimo Dragon/Tokyo Magnum team?

Ultimo Dragon/Dragon Kid. Book it.

Dragon / Kaz Hayashi. I know the two aren't related in any way, but Kaz needs to be back in the US. Hey, has Jimmy Yang been released from WWE yet? They could do a stable with Ultimo Dragon as the leader and Kaz and Jimmy as his "Jung" Dragons.

Kaz is a great choice.............it's just that he probably wouldn't leave his steady gig in All Japan. Although, Jimmy Yang would be a good choice, but I doubt he's going to be in TNA again as there was a little bad blood over him leaving originally...............but who knows.

Dragon past his prime was better than 80% of the guys on the WWE Roster. Just saying, that's all. He may not be the greatness he was, but put him in a match with Liger and I will shit my pants with excitement.
whitemilesdavis - September 9, 2005 03:54 PM (GMT)
I've got to say, Dragon looked really weak in WWE. Alot of it could have been the booking, but his offense just looked so...low impact. He also didn't appear to be anywhere near as fit as he was in the mid-90's with WCW. I'm not saying he sucked, but I definitely see why he didn't work out.
Scrooge McSuck - September 9, 2005 03:59 PM (GMT)
I think the main reason is because he didn't wrestle like Rey Mysterio that he wasn't pushed. I think you're right though, that his loose wrestling style also effected him a bit, but not by much.
You either were the CW Champ in WWE or a Jobber, and unfortunately, after his squashing of Moore in his debut, he went nowhere fast.

An Ultimo Dragon-Steven Regal match had one of my favorite lines, EVER. I think it was Slamboree 1997, where Dragon was whipped to the corner and did his trademark headstand move. Booby Heenan busted out with "hey, it's a guy dressed like a rooster standing on his head! You'd be distracted, too!"
Scrooge McSuck - September 9, 2005 04:36 PM (GMT)
That must've been fed to Heenan, considering 99% of the time he phoned it in during WCW broadcasts. Still a funny line though. Ultimo/Regal must've been kickass if it was a stiff bitchfest, or if Dragon was allowed to use his 500 submission moves instead of punch-punch-high impact move-Asai Moonsault-punch-Tiger Suplex formula I've seen from some of his WCW matches.
TehDoct0r - September 9, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
If I was Heenan, I woulda stopped showing up in like 98. I commend him for sticking around for awhile, even if he was lazy.
I'd love to see Dragon vs Liger, but I think Dragon and Liger vs Joe and Styles might make me cream my pants. Slightly random, yes, but I'd love it.
A renewed Jung Dragons would kick ass. I think ROH should try to book Hayashi and Yang before Gibson has to go back to the E, and they could do the Jung Dragons of Gibson, Hayashi, and Yang vs the Rottweilers of Homicide, Low-Ki, and Rocky Romero.

Haven't seen it in a long time, but I remember the Slamboree match as being pretty good. It was sort of heel vs heel, but Regal got a big face pop when he won.
In 1997 I had a friend in Tucson who got all the cable junk and would send me tapes on request. I was dying to see Slamboree's big Kevin Greene/Ric Flair/Roddy Piper vs. Scott Hall/Kevin Nash/Syxx main event (yeah, yeah...laugh it up, fuzzball). I still have that tape buried somewhere, along with another one with Starrcade 97. I filled up the remainder of the tape with Nitro junk..... maybe someday it'll appear as a Rasslin Tape review..... to the delight of 3 people.

Which I'm sure they would give him if his asking price isn't insane.

I think he wants it as more of a guarante that he'll get what he's promised in pay and not get screwed over.
