Title: Jushin "Thunder" Liger to TNA

Real F'n Show - September 7, 2005 01:12 AM (GMT)
QUOTE
PWInsider.com has confirmed with sources in Japan that Japanese legend Jushin "Thunder" Liger will be making his TNA debut at the 10/23 Bound for Glory PPV in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios.

It would be Liger's first appearance on PPV in the United States since WCW's Starrcade '96, where he pinned Rey Misterio, Jr, although he made later appearances on WCW television. There is no word on who Liger will be facing yet although Christopher Daniels, AJ Styles, and Samoa Joe seem to be the most likely candidates.

Considered one of the greatest Junior Heavyweight wrestlers in history, Liger is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight and WCW Light Heavyweight champion. He helped break ground for the high flying style that is associated with most Cruiserweights with a historic series of bouts with the late Brian Pillman in 1991 and 1992.

Awesome.

Well.............that rocks my fucking socks.

That's awesome.

That son of a bitch better be on Impact at least once before going back to Japan! (creams pants... several times)

I doubt it. It'll probably be a one time deal....

If he stays around for a few days he might appear on a couple of Impacts.

Scrooge McSuck - September 7, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)
If TNA tapes Impact the day after the PPV, I can see him being on it, but since he's a short-time deal (Really short), I just see him beating the pants off Mikey Batts or Jerrelle Clark.

whitemilesdavis - September 7, 2005 03:45 PM (GMT)
A Liger / Jerelle Clark glorified squash could be REALLY fun.

dynamite kido - September 7, 2005 04:02 PM (GMT)
Fucking WORD.

Scrooge McSuck - September 7, 2005 04:04 PM (GMT)
No doubt, but I'm just saying they won't put him over anyone significant, unless he does a job on PPV and (if he hangs around) another on Impact to big names. Either way, it's win-win situation. :)

TehDoct0r - September 7, 2005 08:44 PM (GMT)
If Daniels retains over AJ and Joe, they should definetly put him over Liger at this show. He's already beaten Sabin, Skipper, Shane, Red, Williams, and AJ in his reign, which is basically all the important X guys in TNA history sans Lynn and Low-Ki. If we have Daniels pin Joe (thanks to AJ's offense, setting up more AJ/Joe goodness), he could then go over Lynn on an Impact and challenge any X guy in the world to take him on. Liger shows up at the PPV, Daniels goes over, and he should be huuuuuge. Whoever eventually beats him would look great.

Scrooge McSuck - September 7, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
I don't see anyone beating Samoa Joe for a long time the way TNA is booking him. If he loses to Daniels, I'll be more surprised for that than Raven losing to Jarrett at the 4/30/03 PPV.

TehDoct0r - September 7, 2005 09:07 PM (GMT)
You were suprised at that? ;)

But you certainly have a point. I just don't think Joe losing a fall to Daniels after AJ fucks him up would hurt him incredibly bad. Especially if he gets up all pissy and beats the piss out of AJ. You're probably right about what will actually happen, I just really want to see them go somewhere big with Daniels considering how he's been booked.

Scrooge McSuck - September 7, 2005 09:11 PM (GMT)
Joe isn't supposed to be pissy. He's a no nonsense ass kicker, and the crowd is getting behind him in his matches.

TehDoct0r - September 7, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
I agree. But give him a pinfall loss and he goes from being a no nonsense asskicker to a pissed off no nonsense asskicker. Have him destroy AJ, maybe draw some blood. I guess that would make him a heel, but I'd like that as well.

Scrooge McSuck - September 7, 2005 09:23 PM (GMT)
As long as he doesn't cry about it, I guess that could work, but right now the Joe boat is the one going in a smooth, straight direction, and fucking around with him wouldn't be the best move.

TehDoct0r - September 7, 2005 09:34 PM (GMT)
I guess it depends on how you would define "fucking around." Besides, I don't want him to win the X title. I want him to fuck up AJ on his way to the NWA title, perhaps with a pitstop at Planet Jarrett to break his neck.

Scrooge McSuck - September 7, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
Raven is better suited for the title right now, because with the Spike TV deal, it adds a bit more familiarity to casual fans who don't know who Joe is. Maybe 6-7 months down the line I'd say Joe, but not right now. X-Division is perfect for him. High impact wrestling and submission.

TehDoct0r - September 7, 2005 11:04 PM (GMT)
Well yea, I think it's pretty essesential to have Raven with the belt in October. But if we go by my scenario, by the time he gets done with a nice fued with AJ and disembowling Jarrett, the time would be right.

dynamite kido - September 8, 2005 01:47 AM (GMT)
Joe ain't losing to anyone at this point. He's going to get the X-division belt at the PPV and probably will hold it until they make him main event. This would be the best thing for them to do as it'll look like they created Samoa Joe to the average fan.
