Title: Wrestling Video Games
Description: a query

I've just bought a Nintendo 64 as a cheap birthday present. Which leads me to ask: What good wrestling video games are out there? Not Just for 64, but for all systems? I'm just curious.

For N64, go with Wrestlemania 2000, or No Mercy. However, NM has an annoying glitch in it that erases memory for some reason, so buyer beware.

Other than that, anything after "Attitude" being released on PSone/N64 is pretty good. The only exception is the Raw series on X-Box, which is incredibly bad because of horrible gameplay with too much effort in graphics and zero in everything else.

Big F'N Swigg - September 5, 2005 01:21 AM (GMT)
What's the FirePro series on?

Scrooge McSuck - September 5, 2005 01:24 AM (GMT)
Everything that's a Nintendo system, but almost all of them are imports except for FirePro 1 & 2 on Gameboy Advance, both highly recommended.

Real F'n Show - September 5, 2005 03:06 PM (GMT)
There's also Firepro D for Dreamcast and Firepro Sixman Scramble for Sega Saturn.

More games:

No Mercy for N64 is still the king as far as I'm concerned.

WCW/nWo Revenge is pretty much No Mercy with less modes but a better roster.

VPW2 if your into imports is awesome.

The Smackdown Series is always fun. I'd go with Here Comes the Pain over the latest Smackdown vs. Raw, as it's almost exactly the same game as HCTP, with hardly anything being added.

Day of Reckoning for the Gamecube was awesome, and the sequel, which just came out in the last week, is supposed to be even better gameplay-wise. Plus the CAW rules.

Avoid all wrestling games on X-Box.

Haven't played King of Coleseum 2 (an import puro game for the PS2), but it's gotten a ton of good reviews from people on the net, some say it's Firepro in 3-D.

Scrooge McSuck - September 5, 2005 03:42 PM (GMT)
You mentioned the 2 non-Nintendo games, but you know the problem? Both of those systems sucked and were hardly around long enough for people to buy them. :P

Real F'n Show - September 5, 2005 08:22 PM (GMT)
Actually, there was one for the PlayStation and there's one coming out for PS2 pretty soon as well. And the one for Dreamcast is the best in the series.

Scrooge McSuck - September 5, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
How can one come out for PS2? I thought the FirePro series was discontinued after FPW Finale/2 for GBA was released like, 3-ish years ago.

Real F'n Show - September 5, 2005 10:47 PM (GMT)
I read about it on DVDVR awhile back, I think the thread got deleted, but it said something like "Firepro returns from the grave". I think the one coming out for PS2 is called Z or something, but it looks really cool and has the fucking Canadian Destroyer in it.

Scrooge McSuck - September 5, 2005 11:00 PM (GMT)
Not that I don't believe you, but the source is very questionable, and I'll just safely say "I'll believe it when I see it."

Real F'n Show - September 5, 2005 11:05 PM (GMT)
My bad, it's called Firepro R, not Z.

Interesting... (gets credit card) FirePro returns~! (dances)

Big F'N Swigg - September 7, 2005 12:15 AM (GMT)
Actually Scrooge, if they would have included a DVD player in the Dreamcast, it may have stuck around. The graphics were really good, and it had a good selection of games to start with. Not including that retarded Royal Rumble game

Big F'N Swigg - September 7, 2005 12:16 AM (GMT)
So, wait. There was a FirePro for SNES, right? Any for 64?

Scrooge McSuck - September 7, 2005 12:54 AM (GMT)
No idea on 64, but I'm sure I remember reading in GamePro (or whatever) about a japanese wrestling game that looked very authentic to what WWF and WCW was doing at the time (and maybe better). Sorry I can't come up with a name. This was back when I thought "Oh man this rules... oh wait, it's Japanese. :("

Real F'n Show - September 7, 2005 01:14 AM (GMT)
I don't believe the 64 ever had a Firepro game, although they did have the Virtual Pro Wrestling series, which is very similar to a No Mercy or Wrestlemania 2000, only with a puro roster and more modes. Plus a MASK EDIT.

Scrooge McSuck - September 7, 2005 01:36 AM (GMT)
I think you hit the nail on the head with the Virtual Pro wrestling name dropping. It looked exactly like WCW vs nWo World Tour (the original engine for the WM2000/No Mercy titles), but with a bunch of Japanese guys and everything on the screen written in japanese.

Real F'n Show - September 8, 2005 05:39 PM (GMT)
By the way, Day of Reckoning 2 for the Gamecube is really fun, me and my cousin are having a blast with it so far.

Scrooge McSuck - September 8, 2005 10:57 PM (GMT)
What a waste of $50 if you already have DOR1.

"Wow! 5 new wrestlers and another gimmick match! Take my money, shop keep!"

Real F'n Show - September 9, 2005 02:02 AM (GMT)
I never had the first one, a friend of mine did.

Scrooge McSuck - September 9, 2005 02:13 AM (GMT)
Just saying, that's all. I have a few rules when buying new wrestling/sports games...

1. Buy if the rosters are horribly out of date. (OOH! time to simulate Gangrel vs. Joey Abs!)

2. If there's a REAL significant change in graphics, like comparing Smackdown 1 & 2 to SYM & HCTP.

3. If it's dirt cheap, I'll buy anything.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - September 13, 2005 03:31 AM (GMT)
Smackdown vs. RAW is a terrific game.
