I'll chime in with my predictions later on, but I hope I get some New York action on TV. :P

jamiegeist - September 1, 2005 08:39 AM (GMT)
Good fuckin lord I love the NFL. This can't get going soon enough. Been waiting since February.

Scrooge McSuck - September 1, 2005 01:48 PM (GMT)
I'll cherrish the NFL season until NHL comes back, then football can go fuck itself, but not as hard as the NBA. Is it me, or does it seem like the NBA gets worse every year?

S.T. Strickler - September 1, 2005 02:18 PM (GMT)
I predict the 49ers will have at least 5 wins this year.

Scrooge McSuck - September 1, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
OK, predict winners for the week, not who will suck all season, cause it shouldn't be a mystery. :P

eStragand - September 1, 2005 05:04 PM (GMT)
The sad thing is, I love football, but CBS is making me hate it with a passion. It's week Negative 1 and I'm already fed up with their fantasy football crap. Unless a guy runs for OVER 125 yards or throws for more than 330, it's not worth noting.

jamiegeist - September 1, 2005 05:40 PM (GMT)
We should start an eliminator. Every week, each person picks a winner of any game of their choice. But you can't use the same winner twice. So if I pick the Patriots over the Raiders in week 1, I can never pick the Pats again as my winner. Everyone who is wrong gets eliminated, and last man standing wins.

Scrooge McSuck - September 1, 2005 05:42 PM (GMT)
What if everyone is wrong the 1st week? :P Otherwise, sounds like a bloody good idea.

jamiegeist - September 2, 2005 06:41 AM (GMT)
Then we start over again.

FOOTBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!!!

Tonight. 5 fuckin hours. Goddamit. ITS HERE.

Scrooge McSuck - September 8, 2005 11:11 PM (GMT)
Meh... I hate the Patriots, so I'm routing for the Raiders, who I'm picking to win tonight. 31-21. :)

Mad Dog - September 9, 2005 01:34 PM (GMT)
I have to admit that the Patriots looked a lot better than I was expecting them to last night. I thought they were going to be really rough around the edges due to losing their coordinators and having a ton of new receivers on offense. But it looks like Tim Dwight's going to serve them well on punt returns this year.

Oakland was about what I expected. I figured they'd come out hot and looking awesome on offense before falling off as the game progressed. They're offensive line looked like shit as there seemed to be a Patriots player on Collins almost every play in the second. They're run D I thought looked really good but they're pass rush was non-existant.

dynamite kido - September 9, 2005 01:54 PM (GMT)
Well, I actually wasn't THAT impressed with New England last night. I thought that when they realized that Oakland had a chance to get back in the game that they stepped up, but they did do a good job of staying in the game after Oakland scored so fast on the first drive.

Oakland was pretty much what I expected too but I think that people are jumping on their offensive line too much. I would blame coaching for the failure of the running game last night. They were doing well running the ball in the first half and bascially abandonded after they completed some big passing plays.

Mad Dog - September 9, 2005 02:05 PM (GMT)
The New England defense needs a little work but I think that'll work itself out over time. I thought the New England offense looked really great. Brady looked like a monster the entire game and the offensive line wasn't letting anyone near him.

Oakland's probably looking at a 6-10 or 7-9 season. Sapp and Washington aren't going to be pressuring too many QBs this year. Oakland also really needs to work on the penalties.

dynamite kido - September 9, 2005 03:14 PM (GMT)
There's no doubt that New England's o-line looked wonderful last night. I just didn't see anything spectacular from them offensively last night. Oakland's pass defense is incredibly suspect and their run defense isn't much better................and New England had a hard time getting their running game going.

I agree that Oakland at best is a 6-10 or 7-9 team but that may have more to do with their level of competition than how good or bad they are. Sapp will have a better year this year than last considering that he is moving back to DT.

eStragand - September 9, 2005 04:17 PM (GMT)
Heh...I didn't even know that THERE was a game last night. From what I saw in highlights of both teams, THEIR execution looked okay, but THEY'RE both going to need to improve to get into the playoffs.

Yup, that paragraph was especially for YOU, Mad Dog :)

...and before we go farther, it's "would'VE", not "would of".

Scrooge McSuck - September 9, 2005 04:19 PM (GMT)
Everyone makes mistakes like that now and THEN on message boards. It's easier getting the point across saying it THAN typing it.

Oops... I'm straganding it up. :)

eStragand - September 9, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
Just so's ya knows, Mad Dog: it's more of a rib than a complaint. When ya slip slips twice in one post, I gots ta' let ya' have it.

...and don't get me started on my long history of "your" and "you're" pet peeves :)

Scrooge McSuck - September 9, 2005 04:38 PM (GMT)
I'm sure I've done it several times on your board, as well as some other punk who likes to annoy me (and probably you) at every chance he gets.

Mad Dog - September 9, 2005 05:17 PM (GMT)
Wow, I can't believe I botched that. Their, there and they're is usually one of my strong points writing wise.

New England's offense looked good except for the running game. Like I said earlier Brady looked like a monster during the game.

Actually Scroogie, I haven't seen that lil' buckaroo in awhile. I'm sure he's off somewhere watching a Haku-Paul Roma match, as we speak.

Scrooge McSuck - September 9, 2005 05:39 PM (GMT)
... How did you know he wanted their 11/89 MSG match from me? Thats... not fucking spooky.

SamoaRowe - September 9, 2005 05:46 PM (GMT)
I was at a friend's for a bit last night and actually ended up watching the first hour and a half of the Patriots game. I don't watch much sports, but I enjoyed it (it also helps that I am a big loud-mouth during sporting events).

dynamite kido - September 11, 2005 09:34 PM (GMT)
Pittsburgh Steelers 34 - Tennesee Titans - 7

There you have it bitches.

Mad Dog - September 11, 2005 09:52 PM (GMT)
Beating Tennessee isn't an accomplishment.

Scrooge McSuck - September 11, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
That's as much of an accomplishment as slicing bread.

TehDoct0r - September 11, 2005 10:26 PM (GMT)
I was ashamed to be a Jets fan today.

jamiegeist - September 12, 2005 12:09 AM (GMT)
I was ecstatic, surprised, and fuckin JACKED to be a Chiefs fan today.

Holy hell. Pennington was like a retarded fuckin third grader out there today.

Scrooge McSuck - September 12, 2005 12:12 AM (GMT)
Damn, there's nothing worse than a retarded 3rd grader. :(

S.T. Strickler - September 12, 2005 01:25 AM (GMT)
Even though the 49ers defense stunk and blew a 28-9 lead, I'm glad that they got the win on opening day, and get Mike Nolan his first win.

Scrooge McSuck - September 12, 2005 01:49 AM (GMT)
Damn, how do you blow a 3 posession lead?

S.T. Strickler - September 12, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
Their pass defense isn't the greatest. But they should've done better, regardless of how many points they were ahead.

jamiegeist - September 12, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
You keep handing it off to Kevan Barlow, who I think has about a 1.2 ypc average in his career....thats how.

Mad Dog - September 12, 2005 03:50 AM (GMT)
Matt Stover is so off of my fantasy team.

Scrooge McSuck - September 12, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)
Ahem... nah, too lazy.

[insert picture here]
HA HA!

Mad Dog - September 12, 2005 06:35 AM (GMT)
I didn't think it was possible but the Sunday Night crew actually found a way to make my hatred of them grow.

Scrooge McSuck - September 12, 2005 06:57 AM (GMT)
Don't underestimate the power of the dark side.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - September 12, 2005 06:48 PM (GMT)
Some impressions of the NFL from Week 1:

1. Chad Pennington apparently replaced his hands with meathooks.
2. Brett Favre is celebrating his 60th birthday.
3. Shannon Sharpe's "When Frisman's In, You Gonna Win" is my slogan.

Go Falcons!
