Title: Hardy loses even more steam

Big F'N Swigg - August 18, 2005 01:13 PM (GMT)

Matt Hardy, Lita and Edge were the special guests tonight on Byte This on WWE.com. Here are highlights from the show, which lasted less than 18 minutes.

- Todd Grisham hosted, with Matt Hardy in the studio, while Edge & Lita were "via satellite from their home".

- Edge blasted Matt Hardy for dragging their personal lives onto the Internet, and commented that Matt Hardy acted like a "sixth grader". Edge said that Matt Hardy's "movement" has now "gone in reverse". Hardy laughed in response.

- Hardy (who kept saying "Amy" and "Adam Copeland", while at the same time mentioning their work names) said that he was "disappointed" in Lita, saying he had trusted her more than he trusted his brother Jeff, and she stabbed him in the back.

- Hardy said Edge is in his wrestling character "24/7" and all he cares about is being a "main eventer".

- Hardy said Edge has had multiple marriages before 30, and Edge responded that Hardy is 30 and acts like he only had one relationship in his whole life. Edge said he has made mistakes, but he admits to them, he doesn't cry about it like Matt does.

- They accused each other of living out their wrestling characters "24/7".

- Lita was asked about having her personal life dragged out into the public. Lita said that she made a mistake going behind Matt's back, but she's admitted to that, and she can go to sleep at night with a clear conscience. She admits she has made mistakes, but she fell in love with Edge, and won't apologize for it.

- Lita said it is hard to watch Edge and Matt Hardy go at it, but she will be by Edge's side at Summerslam.

- Matt says it is sickening to him to see Edge and Lita together, and he can't stand it.

- When asked about his music being played during the Edge-Lita wedding, Hardy said he loved it, since it just "fed the monster" and that brought him back.

- Edge said Matt is verbally and physically inferior to him, and referenced Matt's promo of two weeks ago versus the one Edge cut last week. Matt stuttered at one point, and Edge remarked on his speaking skills.

- They traded insults, with Edge saying Matt "talks in wrestling promos".

- When asked about Matt Hardy's comment from two weeks ago on Raw that he hopes Edge dies in a car accident, Edge said that Hardy "needs a life" and he must have said that because he was afraid to face him.

- Edge said he is Bill Gates, and Matt is a "hobo with a sign that says ' Will wrestle for food'."

- Edge said it is time to "Nut up or shut the f*** up" and walked off with Lita.

- Hardy said there is no one that can stop him from hurting Edge at Summerslam. He called him a "piece of s*** and a lying scumbag bastard" and said that he was Edge's "worst nightmare", and he would show it at Summerslam.

It's really sad that they've LET Edge get the better of Matt so much. This COULD have been an interesting angle

Matt's going to regret not signing that sweet deal TNA offered him.

Big F'N Swigg - August 18, 2005 01:32 PM (GMT)
I'm sure he already does

They've already fucked this angle up six ways from Sunday....

Big F'N Swigg - August 18, 2005 07:23 PM (GMT)
Nothing better than the face sounding like a whiny bitch to jump start an angle into Wrestlecrap

There was a decent little article on PWinsider the other day about how the WWE managed to fuck up this angle almost from the get go. It was pretty interesting and made some good points. The article basically says that once Hardy was Vince's "big announcement" that the storyline went to hell. Hardy should have been booked as an "outsider" and this match would have had main event levels of heat to it. But I guess Michaels fighting a guy with an artificial hip is more important than an angle that would have had more steam than anything they've done in years.

Shawn/Hogan IS the only match on the show worth a damn, though. To most fans (that aren't fat girls), Matt Hardy is just some scrub, and Edge is a buck-toothed canadian.

Eddie/Rey is worth more to me than Hogan/HBK. I'd be curious to see if you are defending the main event after Sunday.

Scrooge McSuck - August 18, 2005 10:38 PM (GMT)
I'm defending it because everything else is shit. Eddie/Rey is the only exception, but they have had disappointing match after another, so I don't really care anymore. The angle also doesn't really scream "Order SummerSlam~!" at me. If I wanted to watch this kind of crap, I'll watch All My Children or Guiding Light.

dynamite kido - August 18, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
I'm not defending the angle whatsoever, but the fact that two of the best workers that the WWE has in a ladder match at one of their biggest shows of the year in a blowoff match makes me want to see it.

HBK/Hogan just says to me......Look another match that should have happened years ago.........like when Hogan was remotely mobile, or when Michaels could carry anyone to a half decent match.

Scrooge McSuck - August 19, 2005 02:25 AM (GMT)
Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. I've been burned one time too many by the hype of Eddie/Rey to give a shit anymore. If they pull off a great match, it'll restore my hopes in their matches, but for now, I'm just going "meh."

Believe me, I'm not looking forward to Hogan/HBK as much as I should. Hogan's imobile state is even visible in my blind-mark eyes.

Here's the Buck Woodward article from pwinsider....

QUOTE

Looking at how WWE has handled the Matt Hardy-Edge feud in recent weeks, it would be easy to sound like a skipping CD and say "WWE dropped the ball again". After all, here was a hot angle that blurred the line between reality and "wrestling reality", looking to be the 2005 version of Brian Pillman's famous "Loose Cannon" act. Hardy had a ton of support from the fans, even in his absence, and his initial run-in returns popped the live crowds on Raw. Then it just went downhill, and I really wonder if this is WWE's usual ignorance of what they have in front of them, or if they want to put Matt Hardy back in his old role of mid-card worker.

His "official return", being introduced by Vince McMahon, pretty much killed his rebellious image instantly. After two weeks of fighting with WWE officials and yelling at Johnny Ace, here was Matt Hardy arriving in Mr. McMahon's limo, showing not even a hint of resentment at the company for firing him simply because he was the most expendable talent involved in an ugly personal situation. Hardy's promo didn't do him any favors either, especially the line about wishing Edge would get into a car wreck before they could wrestle (which I have to believe was said totally wrong). While the intent may have been to show how much Hardy hated Edge, all it did was make him come across as a man that didn't want to handle his own problem, and was instead looking for fate to take care of it.

While Hardy and WWE can share the blame for that promo (which, according to a poll we ran here on the site, disappointed many who had been looking forward to Hardy getting on the mic on WWE television), the next move was solely WWE's. Inexplicably, Hardy was put in the ring against Gene Snitsky, with the idea that Snitsky was going to soften up Hardy for Edge. Not saving Hardy's WWE in-ring return for Summerslam and Edge seemed strange, and even worse was that Hardy, who should have probably just smacked Snitsky with a chair and walked off (after all, isn't his sole purpose to make Edge's life hell?) instead wrestled defensively against Snitsky in a less than spectacular bout. At least Edge made the run-in following the match and we did have the backstage pull-apart brawl. In fact, Edge gave the storyline an injection of excitement with his promo earlier in the show.

So, with this being the "go home" week for Summerslam, Matt Hardy .... wasn't there. No interview, live or pre-taped. No attacking Edge, backstage or during his match with Val Venis. Sure, we had a video recap package, but nothing new from Hardy to hype this grudge match. There was time for Rob Conway vs. Hurricane, Big Show vs. The Heart Throbs, and two Diva Search segments, but there was nothing for Matt Hardy to do on the final television show for what should be the biggest singles match of his career. If not for his loyal fan following, Hardy would probably be on the brink of becoming a Heat regular again (if he's not already).

There's been a lot of speculation about when the Hardy-Edge-Lita situation went from being a "shoot" to a "work", with some wondering if this was all orchestrated by WWE all along. Well, if it was, WWE Creative certainly didn't seem to think it out very well. They've taken what looked like a "sure thing" and made it "just another match" on "just another Pay-per-view".

Then again, what else is new?
