Title: First live card you attended

eStragand - August 16, 2005 10:33 PM (GMT)
Yeah, similar to dynamite kido's thread. But, every wrestling board seems to have one and they're kinda' fun.

Mine:
Late May, 1988 Denver Auditorium Arena.
1- George Steele beat Mr. Fuji by countout, when Steele threw a table into the ring.
2- Jim Neidhart pinned HillBilly Jim
3- Scott Casey pinned Barry Horowitz
4- Ultimate Warrior pinned Hercules
5- Sensational Sherri pined Rockin' Robin
6- One Man Gang pinned Bam Bam Bigelow
7- Strike Force beat Demolition by DQ in a semi-Dusty finish
8- Macho Man Randy Savage pinned Ted DiBiase

Scrooge McSuck - August 16, 2005 11:27 PM (GMT)
Wow, that card looks like shit up until the last 2 matches. I don't even remember the first show I've been to, since I can barely what I had for breakfast yesterday. It probably was some lame Indy Promotion too, so meh. :P

dynamite kido - August 16, 2005 11:29 PM (GMT)
WWF @ Pittsburgh, PA - Civic Arena - October 23, 1992
Jim Powers defeated Barry Horowitz
The Natural Disasters defeated WWF Tag Team Champions Ted Dibiase & IRS via count-out; the Disasters were announced as champions for the bout since their title loss had yet to be televised
Virgil defeated Terry Taylor (sub. for the Mountie)
WWF IC Champion Davey Boy Smith pinned Shawn Michaels with the powerslam
Tito Santana pinned Skinner with the flying forearm
Bob Backlund (sub. for the Big Bossman) pinned Nailz with a roll up
Razor Ramon defeated Randy Savage via count-out

I'm wondering if Backlund was good enough to carry Nailz past the rating of "Pure Crap."

NOBODY is that good...

Big F'N Swigg - August 17, 2005 01:23 AM (GMT)
My uncle took me to see WCW at Freedom Hall in Johnson City, TN. I can't remember anything but Flair & Arn Anderson vs. Luger & Sting in a cage.

That, and we didn't pay to get in.

Scrooge McSuck - August 17, 2005 01:36 AM (GMT)
It wouldn't be a WCW event without a papered crowd.

We weren't "papered" we just came 45 minutes late and walked right in without any hassle. Most of the ticket stalls had been closed.

Scrooge McSuck - August 17, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
Thanks for ruining my joke, Swiggy.

S.T. Strickler - August 17, 2005 02:56 AM (GMT)
Well, if you count Indy events as a "live event", then yes I have. July 2000 at the Winchester Speedway, a small racetrack. Atlantic Terror Championship Wrestling (ATCW) had an event there, and it was pretty damn fun. Most of the heels got on the mic and hilariously bashed Winchester and the people in the stands. Oh, and The Fabulous Moolah was signing autographs, but I unfortunately didn't have the money for one.

Hey now.... the Steele-Fuji match was great fun. It was "E-C-DUB" before ECW! Steele picked up the timekeeper's table and tossed the whole thing into the ring from ringside. COOL spot, for the time. Fuji said "frick it" and walked away.

We had never seen Sherri, Robin, or even knew that there was a "womens' divsion". When those two came out, we all said "What the fuck?!"

Dynamite-- Davey pinned Michaels cleanly with the big slam!?! Heh, that's cool.

dynamite kido - August 17, 2005 12:55 PM (GMT)
Yep. He pinned him clean. I don't know if it was a work or not but they had him taken out by all the trainers and whatnot after the match too. Only to later on in the house show announce over the PA system that "Shawn Michaels has just left the building".

jamiegeist - August 18, 2005 09:23 PM (GMT)
Haven't been able to find mine online, but it was in Wichita, KS at the Kansas Coloseum, sometime in 1991 I believe. The few matches I remember:

Ted Dibiase v Bret Hart - Sherri was with Dibiase and distracted the ref, hugging him or something while Dibiase cheated. I think Hart still got the victory.

The Rockers v ???? - All I remember is them running down the aisles and me grabbing at their little armbands like a homo.

Ultimate Warrior v Undertaker - This was awesome. They brawled all over, down the aisle, and I don't remember for the life of me who got the victory.

Thats the only matches/appearances I really remember, and I can't say with much certainty that it was in fact 91. If anyone can dig up a card through one of their sources, let me know. I seem to remember finding it at one time or another, but no luck this time around.

SamoaRowe - November 24, 2005 06:20 PM (GMT)
My first live show was only in 2002. It was Raw from the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH.

Off the top of my head, the show was...

Dark Match:
Justin Credible over Shelton Benjamin (the first time I had ever seen Benjamin)

Sunday Night Heat:
Trish Stratus over Victoria (making her official wrestling debut)
Raven over Tommy Dreamer
Johnny Stamboli over Shawn Stasiak
Matt Hardy over Steven Richards

Raw:
Brock Lesnar over Ric Flair
Molly Holly-Jackie Gayda-Trish Stratus brawl
Rob Van Dam over William Regal
Bubba Ray and Spike Dudley over Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit (this was Benoit's first tv match since 2001).
Booker T over Big Show by count-out.
Shawn Michaels and Kevin Nash put Show in his place for losing.
Undertaker over Jeff Hardy in a ladder match for the WWE Undisputed title.

:shudders:

It was a dark day in the history of the WWE Championship.

The real amusing thing was that a lot of people in the arena that night seemed to genuinely believe that Hardy was going to win the belt.

TehDoct0r - December 13, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
I remember that being a decent match, actually.

My first show was SummerSlam 97 in The Meadowlands
Mankind defeated HHH in a cage match
Goldust pinned Brian Pillman
LOD defeated the Godwins
British Bulldog defeated Ken Shamrock by DQ
Los Boriquas defeated DOA
Steve Austin pinned Owen Hart to win the IC Title
Bret Hart pinned The Undertaker to win the World Title when guest ref Shawn Michaels hit Taker with a chair, but he was aiming for Bret

jamiegeist - December 13, 2005 06:43 AM (GMT)
Awesome first show. I loved that angle with Shawn/Bret/Taker and loved the finish. We rehashed it like 5 times in my backyard wrestling league, always executed so sloppy and incredibly obvious it was coming. This is right near the end of one of my favorite 2 periods in WWE history, the other being Flair's arrival in 91-93.

TehDoct0r - December 13, 2005 07:05 PM (GMT)
The opener and the last two matches were awesome, but the middle reaaaallllly dragged, even for me at 11 years old. Still, I remember it fondly, and it held it's place as my favorite event attended for the next 5 years. The thing is, the only events I attended in those 5 years were WWE house shows and a crappy ECW house show, so it wasn't that hard. Then SummerSlam 02 came around, and that quickly became my favorite show I attended. Then I discovered indy wrestling, and I've been to some good ones. My favorite live event attended is probably a tie between SummerSlam02, ROH Main Event Spectacles, and ROH Manhattan Mayhem.

MillenniumMan831 - December 14, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
According to Cawthon's website:

WWF @ Richfield, OH - Coliseum - June 25, 1989 (8,300)
Mark Young pinned Iron Mike Sharpe
The Barbarian pinned Jim Neidhart
Jimmy Snuka pinned the Honkytonk Man
WWF Tag Team Champions Demolition defeated the Big Bossman & Akeem via disqualification
Mr. Perfect pinned Koko B. Ware
Bad News Brown pinned Paul Roma
WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan (w/ Miss Elizabeth) pinned Randy Savage; during the cover, Sensational Sherri attempted to break the pin but was prevented from doing so by Elizabeth

Not exactly a night of ****-***** wrestling but I do remember being pumped for the Demos/Towers match as well as the main event. At least I got to rock out to Piledriver, Crank it Up, and Jive Soul Bro.

That's "Canada's Greatest Athlete" to you, mister. Yarrrrrrrrgggh!!

Did you remember if Young did his "Clear the Ring With Lethal Breakdancing" move?

MillenniumMan831 - December 15, 2005 09:47 PM (GMT)
There'd have been 8,300 screaming fans heading for a refund if they were robbed of the Mark Young Spinning Tooty Frooty Booty Comeback of Ultimate Annihlation. I completely forgot about Young until years later, but I probably thought he was from the American Gladiators at the time.

Jericho2000Mark - January 18, 2006 12:12 AM (GMT)
My first show was the May 2001 Smackdown in Edmonton, with the highly pimped Benoit-Austin match.

Real F'n Show - January 22, 2006 05:51 PM (GMT)
ECW Hardcore Heaven 2000. It was a blast.

Imafuckingidiot - March 27, 2006 03:03 AM (GMT)
First Live Event I attended was SummerSlam 1993. Yokozuna losing to Lex Luger via countout but retaining the WWF Championship. It was an ok event but that was back in the day.

jamiegeist - March 27, 2006 06:14 AM (GMT)
My quite small list of live shows expands in 2 days:

Sometime in 91 - Kansas Coliseum, Wichita, KS - House Show - Main Event: Warrior v Undertaker

Sometime in 97 - Omaha, NE - Monday Night RAW - Main Event: 4 way Tag Title Match, I think. Featured Rock, Austin, Foley, and others.

Sometime in 97 - Denver, CO - WCW Monday Nitro - Main Event: World Title Match: Hogan v Savage, w/ Bret Hart run in of some kind.

Sometime in 99 - Kemper Arena - Kansas City, Mo - Inaugural WWF Smackdown - Main Event: The Rock v Triple H w/ Shawn Michaels as guest ref.

2001 - Reliant Astrodome - Houston, TX - Wrestlemania 17 - Main Event: The Rock v Steve Austin.

2001-2002 - Kansas Coliseum - Wichita, KS - House Show - Main Event: Dudleyz v Kane/Taker

And now.....the newest addition to the list:

3/28/06 - Kemper Arena, Kansas City, KS - WWE Smackdown - Main Event: Hopefully nothing involving Mark Henry.
