Title: A banner at the top of the board?
Real F'n Show - August 8, 2005 03:25 AM (GMT)
I think we should get one to look a little more professional. I was just wondering how we could go about making one and/or using it.
This and getting our own url (dawrestlingboard.com or dawrestlingsite.com/board) are two goals I want to have done before the end of this year, for sure.

It can be difficult if you're a rookie:
1- make the banner with your Favorite Graphics program. Make it SMALL (as in, under 10KB and roughly the same size as the current default graphic). If that proves frustrating, then there's some dork on this board named "estrogen" or something who can whip up graphics for you.
2-You'll have to post it somewhere on the Internet.
3-Log into your "ADMIN CONSOLE" and jump to "edit stylesheets".
4- Inside the small form box containing the CSS info, search for "logo4.gif". Replace "logo4.gif" with the FULL URL of your new image (include http://). Click "Save" and you're done.
Suggestions: I know it's a WRESTLING board...but I would seriously recommend against including any pictures of a wrestler in your graphic. For example, I used to frequent a certain board while at work, but when they added a BIG picture of Benoit and Angle as their banner, I stopped visiting. Simply because I didn't want anybody to walk by while I'm at work and see two shirtless dudes on my computer. Really, that's an often overlooked pitfall of many forums. Users don't necessarily want to see pictures of wrestlers...just the text and talk about it.
Also, you can check out MY crappy website and forum for an example of how I manipulated the InvisionFree stylesheet to fit my site.

Yeah, I agree with no pictures, I was just thinking a simple "Da Wrestling Board" at the top would make it look a little better.
Would you be interested in making one? Please?

Bring him the head of Josh Hamilton and he'll probably make out with you.

Try this one:

It's the same exact size as the default InvisionFree logo and it's using the same background gradient, so it should be a simple plug-in job.
Oh yeah, be sure to copy this image and save it somewhere on the Internet. Personal website, Yahoo freebie host or whatever you may have.

The board won't get deleted if I do this, will it? (we haven't purchased ad removal)

No. You're just customizing the look and feel. They'll delete your account if you start messing with the Google AdWords code.

Maybe it's just me being a moron, but I'm not seeing a "logo4.gif" anywhere in the CSS box. Could it be called something else?

Oops. My bad. I steered you slightly off course. It's not under the stylesheets, rather the "images" section. I may have a slightly different (older) version of the InvisionFree system, but here's what I do.
Log-in to your Admin console.
On the menu on the left, look under "Skinning & Styles". Select "Images".
You'll get a form with some check boxes and stuff.
First one should be "Logo". Under the "Replacement" box, type in the full URL of the image.
Make sure you check the "Select" box to the right,
Scroll down to the bottom and click "submit".
That should do it.

I did exactly what you said and it's still not working, as far as I can see. I even clicked the "sample" and it shows your logo, but it's not showing up on the board.
eStragand - August 11, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
If the sample is showing, that is indeed weird.
I dunno, make sure you have "use replacement" selected at the bottom of the page?
Worse comes to worse, you can hook me up with temporary admin rights and I can jump in and check it out.

Looks good. Thanks a lot for doing that.
