Yes, I'll try to do this weekly, or at least semi-weekly, and hopefully we'll get some good discussion out of it.
Basically, we take two different matches and look at them, discuss them, etc. and try to determine which is better. I know there will be no actual "winner", but it could be fun to get everyone's thoughts.
So here we go, the matches for this week:
Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart (WM10) VS. Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin (WM13)
I'll post my thoughts in a bit. DEBATE!
Sweet idea RFS.....I like it a lot.
I'm going to have to give this a bit more thought.
Well after some thought I would say that I prefer the Owen/Bret match from Wrestlemania X, but it's only because of personal preference. If someone said that the Bret/Austin match was better I certainly wouldn't argue. I just like the fact that the Owen/Bret had a finish that was definately less predictable than the Austin/Bret match and it was a major upset.
To me, both matches are just fuckin perfect, yes ***** but for different reasons. Bret-Austin for an incredibly hot and heated brawl, and Owen-Bret for being a technical, yet heated marvel. To me though, I would give the edge to Austin-Bret (with much restraint) because of what is accomplished in storyline terms. Bret-Owen meant a ton, but would've meant more if they ever REALLY paid off Owen-Bret. Austin-Bret did something I'd never seen, and still never have seen, somehow double-turning both competitors in a way that actually gave each of them MORE heat.
I mean, Bret was catching some boos here and there, and Austin getting his fair share of cheers, but that match officially flip-flopped tem beautifully. NOT TO MENTION, they managed to have a blockbuster match despite having Shamrock thrown in as the guest ref for no real reason. (Yes yes, I know it was a Submission match).
So, I give the edge, ever so slightly to Bret-Austin. Although I'm still pretty sure Owen-Bret is my favorite Mania match, if that makes any amount of sense at all.
It's safe to say that it's almost impossible to pick between these two.
