Title: OAO Summerslam Thread
Description: Hogan vs. HBK "Snoozamania"
Mad Dog - August 2, 2005 11:18 PM (GMT)
So we've got:
WWF Title Match:
John Cena © vs. Chris Jericho
"The Belt Formerly Known As HHH's Vanity Plate" Title Match
Batista © vs. JBL
"These Guys Are So Old It Should Be A WCW Main Event" Match:
Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels
Matt Hardy vs. Edge
Probable Matches:
"Who's Your Daddy"
Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio
prof_plague - August 2, 2005 11:30 PM (GMT)
May be...
US title: Jordan vs. Benoit rematch?
MNM vs. Animal and Heidenreich?
Super Heroes vs. Heart Throbs? (Although that's more likely a Heat match.)
And may be CM Punk makes an appearance...?
Mad Dog - August 2, 2005 11:33 PM (GMT)
I'd like an interpromotional match that pits Kurt Angle against Chris Benoit.
Real F'n Show - August 2, 2005 11:57 PM (GMT)
God this show looks like shit. I'm usually pumped for Summerslam, too. Ever since the draft I have been looking forward to very little from the E for some reason...
Scrooge McSuck - August 3, 2005 12:00 AM (GMT)
Usually I'm pumped for SummerSlam for being around my birthday, but this looks like crap.
SamoaRowe - August 3, 2005 05:54 AM (GMT)
C'mon, it doesn't look that bad! The Cena/Jericho match could be decent (I remember it was a good match the last time it happened in 2002).
Batista/JBL probably won't be anything special.
Hogan/HBK should be amusing, especially if the crowd totally turns on Hogan.
I'm actually really curious to see how the Hardy/Edge match will go.
So far I don't really have any real complaints with how the show is setting up. Sounds a lot better than last year.

Kurt Angle will probably wrestle Eugene.
...I know I forgot to add one to the "quite possible" match list.

If anything, it'll be a split crowd. Not everyone loves Shawn Michaels either, you know, despite Jim Ross claiming "The roof is coming off the building" when trying to pretend the crowd is that much in favor of Michaels. Since I thumbed through the tape last week, remember last year at MSG, the crowd gave him the most anorexic pop for a "main eventer" I've ever heard. (the show where he wrestled Christian)

It looks terrible.
Cena/Jericho hasn't proven that it'll be good or even be able to draw heat because plain and simple..............nobody cares about Jericho.
Batista/JBL will be awful....................again.
Hogan/HBK MAY be half decent depending on where they go with it. Most signs point to overrated match....
Now Hardy/Edge is something I'd be interested in. But it'll probably be just another match to set up them feuding for another couple of months.
Also, it DOES sound better than last year, but too bad last years Summerslam was probably the WORST in their history match wise.....
Scrooge McSuck - August 3, 2005 01:26 PM (GMT)
Last year is one show I'd like to forget. In fact, I don't even remember what happend other than Orton beating Benoit for no reason other than to erase Lesnars name from the "Youngest World Champion" title.

Haha, I remember that Raw. It was rather pathetic, Ross is having an orgasm dreaming about the huge ovation HBK would get, and then the crowd is just like "Yeah... we saw you a few months ago in that 'Mania main event... remember that we booed him in favor of Benoit?"
Scrooge McSuck - August 3, 2005 02:59 PM (GMT)
It wasn't even a smart crowd. Benoit got a nice (not great) pop, Jericho got his usual, Christian got boo'ed, 'H got boo'ed but some cheers for his entrance.
I feel it will get a mixed reaction because...
1. It's not in Toronto or anywhere in Canada, where Hogan is somehow God, and Michaels is the Devil
2. Michaels still has a good following.
3. Unlike the Rock, Michaels didn't leave to make movies when the company needed him. He just suffered a crippling knee injury for 6 weeks when Austin/Hart were carrying the promotion.
Real F'n Show - August 3, 2005 04:02 PM (GMT)
I still think last years will be better than this years. At least last year had Benoit/Orton and Angle/Guerrero, two very solid, yet unspectactular matches. I really can't see anything even being "good" from this show aside from Hardy/Edge and Guerrero/Rey if they add it.
dynamite kido - August 15, 2005 03:18 PM (GMT)
WWE.com is now reporting that Eddie/Rey at the slam is now a ladder match with the custody papers hanging and the winner gettting custody of Dominick.
whitemilesdavis - August 15, 2005 03:19 PM (GMT)
Dumbest idea for a match ever. Yes, worse than Viagra on a Pole.
Mad Dog - August 15, 2005 03:21 PM (GMT)
They need a Dominick on a pole match.
whitemilesdavis - August 15, 2005 03:29 PM (GMT)
That would be great. Then we would bet to see the legit terror on Dom's face as he swings frome the rafters over his dad and Uncle Eddie slugging it out.
dynamite kido - August 15, 2005 03:41 PM (GMT)
Well at least it'll be a half decent match..................hopefully.
SamoaRowe - August 15, 2005 05:39 PM (GMT)
Some sites are rumoring that a four-way for the United States championship will be added to the card. It would be Orlando Jordan defending against Chris Benoit, Christian, and Booker T.
I guess no Carlito/Shelton this time around either.

Just throw all six of them into one match. Last person standing choses which title he wants. The runner-up gets the other title.
SamoaRowe - August 21, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)
Okay, let's do some predictions, even with no pick pool.
Legend vs Icon:
Hulk Hogan vs Shawn Michaels
WWE Championship:
John Cena © vs Chris Jericho
World Heavyweight Championship:
Batista © vs JBL
United States Championship:
Orlando Jordan © vs Chris Benoit
Legend vs Legend Killer:
Undertaker vs Randy Orton
Ladder Match for Custody of Dominick:
Eddie Guerrero vs Rey Mysterio
No Time Limit:
Eugene vs Kurt Angle
Grudge Match:
Matt Hardy vs Edge
Scrooge McSuck - August 21, 2005 05:52 PM (GMT)
I say everything you did, except Edge/Hardy will be a No Contest, and Eddie HAS to win this. It's just so obvious that it slapped me in the face.
SamoaRowe - August 21, 2005 06:01 PM (GMT)
I would've said "no contest" to Edge/Hardy if it weren't for the fact that it would ruin my color scheme.
I sort of feel like it will have a definite ending if the WWE doesn't want to continue to give Hardy a big time push.
Scrooge McSuck - August 21, 2005 06:05 PM (GMT)
My pick for Heat match du jour: Nunzio v. Funaki.

Nope. No titles were even defended on Heat.
dynamite kido - August 22, 2005 12:53 PM (GMT)
Anyone here actually watch Summerslam? I did and thought it was pretty awful. Hogan/HBK was actually better than I expected. Hogan bled like a stuck pig, yet him winning with a legdrop is wrong on about 144 different levels. I did think that JBL/Batista was alright, but it was still too short. Eddie/Rey was alright as well, yet the Matt/Edge schmoz was the biggest piece of bullshit of all time.
Scrooge McSuck - August 22, 2005 02:13 PM (GMT)
SummerSlam sounded like crap. Maybe everyone phoned it in so Hogan/HBK looked like Bret/Owen from WM X. :P I guess both guys busted their asses last night (or as much as Hogan can), judging from everyones reaction last night.
dynamite kido - August 22, 2005 02:25 PM (GMT)
Michaels worked hard but Hogan just bled everywhere while Michaels was selling huge for Hogan's punches and bad offense though. I wouldn't put it high on the snowflakes chart, but I would give it about **1/2.
Scrooge McSuck - August 22, 2005 02:58 PM (GMT)
Well, it was a success to me then, since I pegged it as ** going into the show. And once again, Eddie/Rey sounded Botch-tastic... and Eddie lost again. Way to go, WWE.
dynamite kido - August 22, 2005 03:16 PM (GMT)
Eddie/Rey was pretty solid, but the end was VERY anticlimatic.
Scrooge McSuck - August 22, 2005 03:25 PM (GMT)
So, can I safely say the big match on the card ended up being Hogan/Shawn like I thought it would, since Eddie/Rey disappointed... again, Matt/Edge was fucky, Angle squashed Eugene, Benoit squashed Jordan even more, UT/Orton sucked, and the title matches were nothing to harp about.

Yeah, so in other words...........it's one of the worst Summerslams of all time.
Scrooge McSuck - August 22, 2005 04:04 PM (GMT)
I don't know... well, yeah, you're right. Even 1996, one of the least watchable to me other than the main event, wasn't as bad as this sounded. For those who don't remember, let's go down memory lane...
SummerSlam '96
Free For All: Steve Austin def. Yokozuna in 1:50
Owen Hart def. Savio Vega in a long, heatless match with a lame ending.
Smoking Gunns def. The Godwinns, New Rockers, and Body Donnas to retain titles in a horrible match.
Sid def. The British Bulldog in an extended squash.
Goldust def. Marc Mero in a lackluster match based on a go-nowhere feud.
Jerry Lawler def. Jake Roberts. 'Nuff said.
Mankind def. The Undertaker in a grueling, 35 minute snoozefest with the occasional awesome spot. The most memorable moment is Bearer turning heel.
HBK def. Vader in a pretty good match with a bunch of lame false finishes to try and make Vader look good because Shawn had to veto losing.
The first 4 SummerSlams, although meaningless usually, featured at least 3 good matches. SummerSlam '93-95 get very little love for some good matches, 1997 had 2 kickass matches to end the show, 1998 ruled, 1999-2000 is hit or miss, 2001 had a great opener and awesome title match, and the rest is fresh enough in everyones mind. SummerSlam '03 though, comes in as the 3rd worst.
dynamite kido - August 22, 2005 04:23 PM (GMT)
I always thought that although heatless...........Vega/Owen was always a fairly decent match.
I was always a fan of the Vader/HBK although I didn't like the multiple finishes. It was a good match up to that point........
Outside of Undertaker/Austin and the Rock/HHH ladder match Summerslam 98 is fucking dreadful.....
Scrooge McSuck - August 22, 2005 04:29 PM (GMT)
!? Val/Brown was pretty good, even back when I hated both of them. X-Pac/Jarrett was better than probably everything last night, and Shamrock/Owen, although short, was good. Only matches that sucked were the 8-Man Tag Comedy Match and Mankind v. Outlaws.

Val/Brown was alright. Keep in mind it had a shitty DQ finish. X-Pac and Jarrett was ALRIGHT...........better than everything last night? I would disagree....
jamiegeist - August 22, 2005 06:05 PM (GMT)
I think the Triple H/Rock Ladder Match is one of the most overrated matches in recent memory. I definitely thinkg X-Pac/Jarrett was a much better match overall. D-Lo/Val was damn good until the schmoz also.

Yep. I CERTAINLY would agree with that......
Scrooge McSuck - August 22, 2005 07:56 PM (GMT)
My point is SummerSlam '98 is consistantly good. Nothing at all bad (except a comedy match), but no stand alone awesome matches.
Concerning the top two matches, Austin/Undertaker was much better than it had any right to be considering the limitations of both and the normal wrestling rules (no stips to hide weaknesses).
The Ladder Match was good, but unspectacular. Personally, I feel the entire gimmick of a Ladder match is overrated, and have never had a 6 foot boner for Michaels/Razor like 90% of all people have.
